PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

I'm currently doing my alcohol training at Mizner's. Apparently this is the place to be to watch the derby. I just wanted pre dinner cocktails (that may have made me really buzzed)

I just drank a bottle of Riesling with my neighbor while the kids are watching Frozen on the screen outside by the pool. Perfect night for an outdoor movie and a bottle of wine! Gotta get my training in somehow ;)

So this week kind of stunk for me since I only ran twice and I need to run four times. However I was motivated to run today because 1) my husband called to see if I had gone for a run (he was at a training) and wouldn't let me make excuses and 2) we did Disney movie night and I baked this cake, half of which is still sitting on our counter. Yum! It's not a *cup*cake, but I thought you would all appreciate it. (It tastes way better than it looks!)

So today was my belated start to C25K week 2. I did day 1 today and improved my times and ran more, obviously! I did 2 miles in 29 1/4 minutes which is good for me! My split pace was 14:50mm! Under 15 minutes!!!!!! I am so proud of myself for getting out there and for doing so much better!

What a fun cake! And :thumbsup2 on the pace improvement!

Today is Ab's 17th birthday...no cake, she wanted cupcakes!

Happy Birthday Ab! I hope it was great!

Tammie, you would be so proud...Not only did I find cupcakes yesterday at the Sip-n-Savor, but they had booze in them too! :lmao:

Awesome cake and Great job on your pace! You are rocking it! :cheer2:

What a beautiful lady! Love the cupcakes!

Karen~ It looks like you were having a fun time! I was with you in spirit, finished off a bottle of Moscato, so yummy!

Ebie (Ecb sorry if I got your name wrong)~ Sorry about your boot of shame, I have been there, but a week isn't too bad in the long road that is our running journey. That is what I tell myself when I am trying to recover from an injury.

Andreah~ Love the sheet! I am going to fill it out!

Had a great weekend here! I went to Marshall's and found the most perfect skirt for my Mary Poppins costume for the PHM. Now to find a white tank top I like so I can start to figure out how to sew the red corset like thing. To round off the saturday, DD and I baked lemon cupcakes with a lemon buttercream frosting. Oh they are yummy!!!! Good thing I am carbo loading for next weekend's Ragnar!

Then today I got a 13.1 mile run in with some friends. My friend has been busy planning our 2015 racing season. We have the GSC and then she has a couple of marathons planned and we are going to try and tackle a 50k next year , but I am ready for a challenge!

I have my Ragnar next weekend so time to back off the running a little this week. A few easy 3-4 miles and rolling my right glute because it is not happy with the hills I have been running. I have a massage for next week for after the race and hopefully my glute will either be happy by then or ready for a painful workup.

Hey guys! Here's the blank workout sheet for this week. This time you can either type on it or you can print and handwrite. #upgrade

As for me, I'm not even posting my results from last week. I wasn't a TOTAL loser, I did do SOME stuff, but several things got in the way this week, a stubborn-slow IT band recovery, a mini-crisis at work, the loss of my great-uncle (super-sweet man, saw him only once a year or so, but I have family in town to visit as a result), and visiting with my high-school boyfriend that I hadn't seen in 17 years (he and his girlfriend were passing through town while relocating from Maui to the British Virgin Islands). I didn't even wear my Fitbit consistently, which is SO unlike me. I'm a slave to that little gadget. So, yeah, I didn't keep track of my stuff, and I'm declaring this week a do-over.

Here's the plan. I need to get back on track in a terrible way. If I stick to the plan this week, and log all my nutrition into Fitbit (good, bad or cupcake), I'll treat myself to this super-adorable tank from Etsy:

Happy training everyone! Hope your weather is as beautiful as ours in Memphis!

You're so strong and you're awesome!!! Also : Thank you soooooooooo much for that workout sheet! :flower3:

Saw this journal at the book store this weekend and I thought about my peeps.
Also had a lemon cupcake at a local coffee shop. The cupcake was good but the frosting was way to sweet.

Finally getting around to my race report...

OKC Memorial Marathon & Half Marathon, April, 27, 2014

The race was scheduled to start at 630am. Hubby dropped me off at 530am & I walked to my corral area. Rain was starting to fall off & on. Nothing too bad, but enough to occasionally make me take shelter under a tree.

This was my view while I was waiting.

As race time grew closer, there was more & more lightning. They were announcing the closest shelters (parking garages) where each corral should go if we were instructed to do so. In the meantime, I was stretching off & on to try & warm up the muscles.

Pre race selfie

Start time kept getting pushed back & we were finally given a start time of 8am, but told to seek shelter. We all headed to our parking garages. Once in the parking garages we could no longer hear the announcements as we were 3 blocks from the start line for my corral. I was up at the front of the parking garage, so I was able to get cell service & 3G. I was trying to keep up on FB & Twitter with race announcements. 8am came & there was no further word about the race. About 810 we could hear the faint sound of the National Anthem being sung. We all headed out as quickly as possible to get into our corral. We heard the announcement the wheelchair athletes would be starting & then the runners would be released at 820.

So, off the runners went. We had no time to stretch with the circumstances that happened with the weather. Race started & the temps were in the upper 60's with over 80% humidity, but the rain had cleared.

Not even a mile in & I was already cramping in my calves. I had to stop & stretch.

Mile 4 was a pretty brutal hill. At mile 5 I saw 2 ladies who were running the race come out of a McDonalds with breakfast. Mile 6.5 was Gorilla Hill. I had heard all about this hill...which turned out to be not as bad as the hill at mile 4. Regardless, Gorilla Hill had residents dressed as bananas & monkeys. I saw hubby & the kids at mile 8. Shortly after my calves really started cramping & it was all I could do to walk...forget running at this point. I had been eating pretzels & hydrating well, but the humidity was just brutal.

I got to mile 13 & gave it everything I had to run across the finish line. No PR, but another half marathon in the books.

Pics from during the race.

I will definitely do this race again. Just hoping for better weather conditions for next year.

Happy Cinco de Mayo ladies!!!!

I had a great weekend RESTING - well sort of. I was supposed to be heating my chest but I bought tickets for a comedy show in Rhode Island so I HAD to go! Yes, my Costo hurt but it was a good, healthy laugh! :rotfl:

I'm going to start my C25K all over again - but I'll be running OUTSIDE. So, I was on week 4 but I'll be going back to week 1. No more treadmill for this girl until it starts snowing again next winter! I'm going to bike o do elliptical on Thurs and Friday with some strength training before I head to mom for the weekend!

I need to keep myself happy, healthy, and strong. I went to Whole Foods this morning and was ready to buy stuff I clearly don't need and put everything back....and walked out with NOTHING. So, I'm on my set diet plan again and no more snacking!

I hope the mother's on here is excited for this weekend coming up! :flower3:

p.s. Here is some Monday Motivation!! I will try to post something each Monday until PHM weekend! :goodvibes

Congats!!! You finished and that is AWESOME!! :cheer2: I'm shocked they never posted anything or brought a police car around the area to tell people about the race starting!!! & McDonald's!? Were they walking and running while eating?! Sounds like something I would do hahahah :rotfl2:

Loved this post-race report! :thumbsup2

It was definitely not how I wanted to start the race...but, at least we got to do it. There was a lot of confusion with the weather, but in reality they were about 2 min from having to call the race (in order to re-open the streets on time) from what I later saw in an email from them. So, I am just glad we got to do it.

The ladies were walking while eating the McDonalds. When I came up on them, they were just coming out of the place with food in hand...and their race numbers on. I didn't notice if they were running the half or full, but McDonalds would NOT be how I would fuel for a race (then again we never eat there...). It was just funny to see.

So, today I am feeling bummed. I had come across a 25K a few weeks ago that would be in July. I was back & forth on if I should do it (it was a night race). I finally decided a few days ago that I wanted to do this race & then I went to register & it was sold out  They only allow 500 people in the race because of it's location in a park & they have to meet city ordinance, but still...I am bummed. Next year I will not hesitate on it.

I have a color run with my daughter on Saturday morning, Color Me Rad. She is super excited, I am feeling...meh. I am beyond excited to spend some time with just her, but the race itself...not so excited about it. Trying to put on a happy face for her though & got us matching white outfits to wear (at her request).

I just signed up for the Color In Motion today with my soon to be 12 year old. It's her first race ever! I told her she had to prove to me she could run distances & yesterday she ran 3 miles. So we are officially signed up... and she is beyond thrilled! I am going to make us white outfits as well! Probably tutu's and tee-shirts... maybe a white bandana....

I'm excited just because she is so excited. (Although I do like color runs- even if I sneeze brown/purple snot for a week after!) :)

I am so glad to hear all of you ladies connecting with your daughters through running. My oldest DD who is soon to be 14 wants to the 10k with me in Feb. But I have to force her to stay on track. Maybe a nice 5k will give her a taste to be motivated for the big deal ALL the WAY in Feb.
