PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

None of the cupcakes from this weeks installment excite me :( I am not a big fan of caramel corn (or popcorn at all really) & while I don't mind cotton candy, I can only have a couple bites...but I don't want it on a cupcake.

I will save these cupcakes for someone else to enjoy :)

No caramel corn...ugh! But I have to agree I don't want these things on a cupcake!

Okay apparently I must have my time wrong...:scared1: I thought it opened at midnight on July 15?! I need to get this right...so Debra, what is the actual moment registration opens!

NOON!! (Eastern time) so 11am for me! I have it marked on the calendar. :thumbsup2

Thanks Karen & Debra straightening me out on this one...you saved me some sleep! 11 am here too...we need to have an online party!
I am hoping to get in under early registration. They usually open it a bit early for DVC, visa or AP holders (and we're all of the above :) )

Sadly I am none of the above! I had my ID stole a few years ago and we finally got the whole thing settled about a year ago. So now I am trying to rebuild my credit and Disney doesn't want to give me a card. I so understand, but it is not fair. I did learn a lot and happy never to really have more than 1 cc with a low limit, plus I like living Dave Ramsey style...most of the time. Southwest however, did and I am racking up points with them so at least airfare will be taken care of!

Just gonna be ready to punch the button at 11 am...and have Ab on her computer doing her registration!

Sorry I haven't posted, I have been keeping up through my phone though! I have been a little busy with some stuff!
I had a dismeet in NYC the day before the NYC 1/2 Carol was going to run in! She did AWESOME!!!! I met with Betsy and Carol and God bless their hearts they waited for us because NY is the only place that decides to close 2/4 lanes for road work on a Saturday afternoon! I can't upload the picture because facebook is being funny, but I will!

Also I love planning! My husband doesn't like cake :scared1: I know!!! Thank goodness he isn't part of the cupcake crawl! BUT he LOVES ice cream! So I can't post this on facebook because it's a surprise, but was wondering if anyone can tell me about ganache? I found a recipe for milkyway ganache (one of his favorite chocolate bars), but I want to know. When I pout if over the ice cream cake, is it going to just all fall down the sides, will it get hard or stay sticky? I am so excited about this cake! He loves banana splits so this year I am making him a banana split ice cream cake (a test run for his surprise 30th birthday next year) It will have chocolate fudge ice cream on the bottom, strawberries (his favorite fruit) next, banana ice cream, banana slices next, then strawberry ice cream on the top- all homemade ice cream! I want the ganache to sorta drip down the sides, but also cover the top! I am going to put dollops of whip cream along the top with maybe some nuts (if my brother in law isn't bringing his girlfriend because she's allergic) if he bring her though I will just put some strwaberries or chocolate shavings on the dollops. SO..... anyone know? This is his cake from his 25th birthday, he didn't like this kind of cake though! It was vanilla/chocolate with oreo crumbs between and a whip cream frosting. He doesn't like cookies though and not even vanilla!

And I registered for my first 5k!!! We were registered for the one today- 3/22, but were sick all week so had to cancel it! BUT now we are registered for another and I told Damien that come what may we are running it! Well technically, walking most of it! He is doing the fun run and I will do the 5K!

Costumes are a big part of the fun! Excited to see what you have come up with.

I think I may have my 5K & 10K costumes picked out...:scratchin

Wow! Y'all are really ahead of the game! Lots of time to get it ready. I ran in a Raw Threads Rapunzel shirt and I really loved it. May have to go that route next time too.

Ok ladies. My 11 month DVC window opened today. We are debating taking kids so we booked the whole week at AKL. If I end up going solo I will just be there for the weekend.

How fun...and I guess your not sharing...:rotfl2:
I love the raw threads stuff...is it as soft once you wash it. Thinking of getting Ab the Cindy shirt...

I am going to keep it a secret for a little! I will reveal it when I understand how to put a costume to run in together though! And I just ordered some sports bras from raw threads.... I hope that they are good! I did not like the "sports nursing bra" I bought from the maternity store... it held NOTHING in! (TMI... sorry!)

Well...for the 5K I can either go in on the Good Fairy thing with you (make it pink!) OR I will do Cheshire Cat. I have most of the stuff for that already since I *almost* did Cheshire for the 5K, but then switched to Nemo inspired.

For the 10K, I am thinking possibly Goofy. I have a Goofy costume I had bought a while back for a race that benefitted a dog rescue company, but then I couldn't do the race because of schedule conflict. So I have this adorable Goofy costume sitting around. Since I have pushed back doing Goofy at marathon weekend until 2016, I *might* do this costume then.

For the half I have a few ideas in my head, but nothing definite & nothing I am ready to share yet. I will NOT be a princess for the half marathon, that is all I can say.

I like both ideas for the 5K!

I love the Goofy idea! I honestly relate very well with Goofy! And I bet that DH and the bank account are happy to have you "upcycling" the costumes!

And I am not a princess for the 1/2 either! For some of the same reasons that Tammie has and then really, I don't feel like a princess mindset either. Can't wait to see what you picked though! /COLOR]

I guess I just need to plan my outfits for each day! :rotfl2: Or maybe I should look at what touring plans has to say for each day best park...or maybe I should get an outline going with major events for each day!

I love all of the options to keep busy!

Just got a text from the weather service...Dust Storm warning...DUH...looks like no running for me tonight! Times like this I need a treadmill, so not getting in the car and driving across town to the gym either!

Glad that you didn't go out! That looked nasty! And the treadmill is not all that great! They can still find you if you are on a treadmill! While I am on mine they always seem to need me for something!

I'm worried I won't be able to get much road running in place during August or September b/c this was my front yard in the middle of September last year.

kjD2JI8.jpg

Not sure where you live, but that is a TON of water!

I *may* have looked at Touring Plans today myself :rolleyes1 The crowds were quite manageable last month when we were there. I had already taken care of our FP+ (Space Mtn, BTMRR, Buzz) so we just found some rides with shorter waits & used those as filler (Haunted Mansion, Mad Tea Party, Buzz, People Mover, Carousel of Progress, Speedway). Looks like preliminary crowd trackers on Touring Plans are showing similar numbers for next year.

Disney is the only place where I can plan & plan for months upon end & never get tired of it.

I have so much fun planning the costumes! I am trying to decide for sure what I want to do for RnR Vegas. I have a few ideas. Speaking of which, I think you can register for that one starting next month sometime. I got in on that 1 day where it was $99, so I am already registered.

I like the idea of fP+, but does that still work if you are buying the tickets and renting points? Someone told me no.... I just want to get it clear, maybe the deciding factor for us to rent or not!
I love planning Disney trips! Makes me so happy!
And the costume thing... well I am trying to enjoy that!

How did I celebrate the first day of spring...

With a windy run! But at least I got out there and ran tonight. Ankle and shins felt good!:goodvibes

So glad that you were able to get out and enjoy! AND that the legs felt good!!!! Hopefully it stays that way! pixiedust::cool1:

Yes! AND...have you ever seen those quotes where they say things like "It's your mind wanting you to stop, your body can go more..."?? They make me want to scream b/c I'm the exact opposite. I think half my injuries were b/c my mind wanted to go go go and my body couldn't handle it! :rolleyes2
Yeah, I don't think that applies to me either!

Cupcake Friday
(as if just being Friday is not sweet enough)

Caramel Corn Cupcake & A Couple of Others
Magic Kingdom: Big Top Treat’s

There is not a lot of information out there about the Caramel Corn Cupcake. From what I have read it is pretty much your standard Disney cupcake covered with a pretty, circus-swirled wrapper. The thick, gritty-sweet icing was colored to match the wrapper and topped with fresh, sweet caramel corn. (Description from Pinch of Pixie Dust). I have seen other frosting colors and not so fancy wrapper in pictures?!

Here is the Pixie Dust Girls Review: “Once I cut into it and took the first bite, I was in cupcake heaven. The cake is a moist vanilla (although you could get it in chocolate, as well) with no filling. The main event is the topping. I know a lot of folks don’t love this style of stick-to-your-tongue sugary frosting, but I can’t get enough of it. Here, it was offset and made so much more delicious by the soggy-soft and salty-sweet caramel corn on top.”

So the last line of this review really got me…” soggy-soft and salty-sweet caramel corn on top .” I think I will pass on this cupcake. The thought of soggy popcorn does not sound like any texture I want in my mouth. With so many cupcakes out there, I don’t want to waste stomach space on this one, so my vote is NO.

There are also a couple of others that I found at Bit Top Treats, again not a lot of information so I am going to lump them in this post...

Cotton Candy-Just like the Caramel corn, a standard cupcake with a bunch of cotton candy on the top. I am seriously trying to figure out how they get the cotton candy not to melt all over the cupcake. I hate when cotton candy gets a little wet. I think I will pass on this one too!

(Pictured-far back with the pink stuff)

Dumbo & Great Goofini-Looks to me like a standard cupcake with either a Goofy or Dumbo white chocolate embellishment. Nothing special.

What are your thoughts? Should we add one of these to our cupcake crawl?

So I am not a big fan of popcorn... I love kettlecorn, but don't eat it often because I don't like how it gets stuck in my teeth! PLUS... I HATE when it's not very fresh and crunchy!

Now for the cotton candy cupcake... I made Damien a cake one year for his science party... it was a mad scientist with cotton candy hair! I had a piece of the cotton candy with the cake and although the kids liked it... I did not! So I think I have to pass on both of these cupcakes, but I'll sit with whoever wants to eat and enjoy them to keep them company!

This is Damien's birthday cake from that year! Not the best or anything, but he loved it and was happy!

Hi! I just wanted to let y'all know that I am subbed to this thread. I was hoping to run W&D this year, but I had no idea it would sell out so quickly!! So, now I have set my sights on PHM. My mom will go with me as well as my cousin. We will be bringing our kids. I'm planning for my mom and myself to walk the 5K and doing the half with my cousin. Then there will always be someone with the kids. I will be ready and waiting to dial the moment registration opens!

Welcome! happy to have more cupcakes, especially with kids! Maybe the kids can stay with the adults at one point in the races to cheer for all of us!

NOON!! (Eastern time) so 11am for me! I have it marked on the calendar. :thumbsup2

Oh, that's good- I'll feed them lunch and then have I'll hope online to wait! It's noon for me!

Sadly I am none of the above! I had my ID stole a few years ago and we finally got the whole thing settled about a year ago. I am actually a big believer in the Dave Ramsey as well! We buy things cash- in fact the whole house has been done with cash! That's why it's taking so long! But we don't have credit cards and the only loan we ever had was our Suzuki which we paid off about 2 years early! I like it and I think maybe we should get a credit card, but not sure..... And that southwest giving you flying points is great! You can always use those!

Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jenny Lou and I'm planning on running the GSC in 2015. It will be my first half marathon and I'll be a solo runner. I love cupcakes (obviously) so this seemed like the place to be!

I saw your name right away and knew you belonged here! :thumbsup2

That cupcake doesn't excite me much either.

I had one of these today after buying my new running shoes:

Welcome! I ran PHM solo & while I never felt alone, it would have been nice to have some friends to talk to in the corral & take pics with.

That cupcake doesn't excite me much either.

New running shoes & a cupcake = great day!

Something I think a lot of is worry about - having their ID stolen. Geez Tammi, sorry you had to deal with that.

Thanks Karen & Debra straightening me out on this one...you saved me some sleep! 11 am here too...we need to have an online party!

Count me in for the on line party! I won't play around this year as these races are becoming extremely popular. I have been catching up on this thread all day and can't wait to get to know you ladies and share our training!!

btw, where did you ever find salted caramel Gu? That was drool worthy in itself :hyper:!!!

Sorry I haven't posted, I have been keeping up through my phone though! I have been a little busy with some stuff!

I am so jealous that you 3 got to meet up! Glad you were able to get together despite the roadwork!

I think that ganache is supposed to set up once it is poured onto the cake surface. I know some of it runs off...I don't think it gets too hard but hard enough for a shell?!

And I registered for my first 5k!!! We were registered for the one today- 3/22, but were sick all week so had to cancel it! BUT now we are registered for another and I told Damien that come what may we are running it! Well technically, walking most of it! He is doing the fun run and I will do the 5K!

YAY for the 5K...I am still on the fence if I am going to do one in a couple of weeks...I think it is great that you and Damien are going to do them together! How is the walking coming?

I am going to keep it a secret for a little! I will reveal it when I understand how to put a costume to run in together though! And I just ordered some sports bras from raw threads.... I hope that they are good! I did not like the "sports nursing bra" I bought from the maternity store... it held NOTHING in! (TMI... sorry!)

I need some new bras...the local running store every few months brings in a fitter for the sports bras...maybe I need to do that! So glad that I am past the stage of nursing bras...and all that comes with it! :scared1:

I like both ideas for the 5K!

I love the Goofy idea! I honestly relate very well with Goofy! And I bet that DH and the bank account are happy to have you "upcycling" the costumes!

Sad that I want to do a Princess race but I am not into being a princess! But I am excited with who I picked! I want to do Disney Marathon...maybe not the marathon but the 1/2 and do Minnie Mouse...so many cute ideas! Princess just does not seem like Minnie Mouse to me...

Glad that you didn't go out! That looked nasty! And the treadmill is not all that great! They can still find you if you are on a treadmill! While I am on mine they always seem to need me for something!

I was telling Jeff that I think I need to get rid of the elliptical...it seems that it aggrevates my shin issues...but I just don't have room for a treadmill. I know that next winter before the PHM I am going to have to get my hiney to the health club I belong to and use their treadmills and track...it is just clear across town and right now busy schedules are in the way of making the trip!

I *may* have looked at Touring Plans today myself :rolleyes1 The crowds were quite manageable last month when we were there. Disney is the only place where I can plan & plan for months upon end & never get tired of it.

That is why we are all here...never get tired of planning Disney...NOW ROME IS ANOTHER THING...less than 4 months away and I still have nothing nailed down but rooms! :scared1:

I know...I missed the deadline. I thought it was the next day...GRRRR. Sign up soon...only thing is my sister let me know that nephew is probably getting married in November...so now I have to wait to see which weekend...:confused3

Good question!

So glad that you were able to get out and enjoy! AND that the legs felt good!!!! Hopefully it stays that way! pixiedust::cool1:

Not holding my breath with my legs...UGH!

So I am not a big fan of popcorn... I love kettlecorn, but don't eat it often because I don't like how it gets stuck in my teeth! PLUS... I HATE when it's not very fresh and crunchy!

I think everyone is pretty much in agreement...Big Top Cupcakes we will pass on!

That cake still makes me smile...you are so good to your son!

Right now we are not doing so well with Dave and this darn Rome trip! Ugh...

Welcome!
Glad you want to jump on into our craziness! No need to be a solo runner now...you are among cupcake friends and for some of us our 1st half too!

I saw your name right away and knew you belonged here! :thumbsup2

I could not agree more! You were made for this PTR!

That cupcake doesn't excite me much either.

I had one of these today after buying my new running shoes:

QvjJkeq.jpg

Caramel Mudslide!

Can't figure out which I like better...new shoes or drooling over that cupcake! What kind of shoes did you get?

Something I think a lot of is worry about - having their ID stolen. Geez Tammi, sorry you had to deal with that.

Thanks...the nightmare is over. Finally, just had to settle with Discover card...they were awful to work with. We think we know who did it...but can't prove it and therefore Discover did not want to work with us or right anything off...so it is on my credit report. Only 6 more years and it will be gone!

Count me in for the on line party! I won't play around this year as these races are becoming extremely popular. I have been catching up on this thread all day and can't wait to get to know you ladies and share our training!!

btw, where did you ever find salted caramel Gu? That was drool worthy in itself :hyper:!!!

WELCOME!

We are so glad to have you joining in our craziness! I know last year I signed up for the ToT about 5 weeks after it opened because I was not sure and kept going back and forth...now I see it has sold out in less then a month. Last year it was May I think before it sold out.

We were just talking about July 15th a few pages ago. Making sure that we are all on and hitting that button at 12 pm EST! No messing around...

Please feel free to share your training, your questions, your planning...anything you want here! You are among cupcake running friends who want to celebrate, lift you up, and pick you up when the training gets hard or frustrating (which I have had my share already this time around).

I stumbled upon salted caramel gu...our Sporting Goods chain Academy just happened to have it one day (at a discounted price)...I need to look and see if they have more. Since I have not been doing long runs I have not bought anything lately! I know you can order it on Amazon, if your sporting good store doesn't carry it!
