Dave--Hugs going out to you!:grouphug: It has been a rough fall for you. I hope your LR today is able to clear your mind a little:hug:

Dave, so sorry to hear about the issues at work. Hugs to you too!

Mike, yes, you all are running 20+ miles today and I SOOOO wish I could be out there too!

Can't wait to hear about all the long runs today.

Dave - Glad to see you back:dance3: , that's my happy dance. Wow, what is up with work? Talk about a curveball, man, you need to get some answers so you can get a plan of attack. I've been down that road b4 & it's tough. I will echo the thoughts of a rough autumn for you. Remember, this too shall pass, keep the faith, man:grouphug: . Oh, I don't worry about running, I pretty much did the same thing you did; ran Mon. 6 miles, 20 mins on Weds & that was it:confused3 . How'd the run go?

Colleen - Glad to see you in good spirits:banana: & on the boards!

Mike - How'd that run go?

Sara - How'd the dreadmill treat ya?

OK, my LR report. So humid it's wet out, wet in the air. Went to bed @ 11 (stupid me), got up @ 4:30, ate & drank tea, waited for stuff to happen, out the door around 5:45. It was good until I had to stop @ the porta potty @ the park again around mile 9.5 - we'll leave it @ that. Mile 15 sucked w/ this heinous hill, then the road was all rough 'cause they're repaving it, and man did that cause a lot of fatigue:confused3 , but it only lasted a mile or so. Last few miles were pretty dang heinous & I couldn't see running another 6 if my life depended on it...that's encouraging:rotfl2: Anyhow it's DONE:yay: . Oh yeh, someone explain to me why people get antsy during taper?:woohoo: :cool1: :lmao: . I'm soooo diggin' the thought. Drum roll please.........................average pace was 9:46! Not bad for a turtle, but I'll have you know there were many 10min+ plus miles toward the end. It was really feelin' sucky.

popcorn:: popcorn:: Waiting for other reports. And NO, I won't be having a beer tonight to celebrate, I can't handle those Sun am hangovers:rotfl: Oh, & don't forget, I have to be a corn cop tomorrow!

:

Wow! Awesome run Jodi, I would gladly feel a little sucky if I was banging out sub 10 minute miles in a long run. So do you have a goal time for MCM?

Hey Everyone:

Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it.

Jodi- I am soooo impressed with your sub 10 mpm 20 miler. I am seriously concerned about keeping up with you at MCM.

OK, for my LR - I BONKED!!! I was planning 23 miles. I was cruising the first 10 miles. Through the first 10 miles in 1:42:51; 10:17 mpm (and that was with 2 water/GU stops). Through 15 miles I was at 2:33:31; 10:14 mpm. Then I crashed. The next five miles were: 11:47, 11:35, 11:28, 11:32, 14:18. I was super hot (it was 85 degress), and I was out of water and gatorade. I decided to bag it before I hurt myself. I called DW, and she picked me up on her way back from DD6 pooh: gymnastics.

So I got in 20 miles in 3:34:14; 10:47 mpm, and I learned I need to eat more the night before than just frozen DiGiorno's pizza. I was out of gas.

Dave and Jodi - You guys rock:cheer2:  :cool1: Awesome job on the 20 milers. Sorry they were less than inspirational but at least you got them done.

Dave - Thanks for giving up your MIA status. So sorry you've got some more crap thrown your way:wizard: . I hope all goes well with the job since you really didn't need yet another thing on your plate right now.

Jodi - What's the corn cop thing? How did I miss that?

I am wondering if I should even post my yet unfinished LR report since I am mean and irrational at this point:mad: . I have to preface this by saying I have not had more than 5 hours of sleep per night all week because of DH's snoring issues. 3:15 is the latest I have slept and 2:30 has been my get up time the last two mornings. I am so mad I could spit. How in heck am I supposed to get better and sane with NO sleep:confused: ? I have done 12 miles on the TM this morning and I want to do my final 8 sometime today but DH has been on a hike since 8 a.m. and he's not back yet. The leg is not good and I am kind of scared:scared1: . It is definitely some kind of overuse thing that needs RICE. Any advice for the last 3 weeks besides telling me I really shouldn't be running this?

Dave and JodiThe leg is not good and I am kind of scared:scared1: . It is definitely some kind of overuse thing that needs RICE. Any advice for the last 3 weeks besides telling me I really shouldn't be running this?

Sara - It's so hard to know what to say. You're the one going through it. You've ultimately got to decide if 26.2 is do-able for you at this point. Is it just going to hurt your time, or do further damage. Is your fitness level going to suffer so much by resting the next few weeks that finishing the MCM is either not possible or no fun (I seriously doubt it, IMO). What bothers you more, your leg or the prospect of missing Jodi's robot dance? ;) . Do what's going to be best for you in the long run, but if your leg needs RICE, by all means RICE!

Dave - I'm sincerely sorry that you're having such a tough go of it lately. Don't sweat today's run. 20 miles in the books and you are right on course. Good job!!

I'm not sure what to say about the job. Well, I take that back. I do have this to say. Every job, career, etc. change that has happened (or not happened) for DW and I has ended up putting us in a better place in life in the long run. Worry about the stuff you can control. Prepare as best as you can for the things you can't, and then just see how things play out. Use your family (and friends like us) for the strength you need and just stick with it.

Holy Mackerel!! I'm so deep. I've got more advice than Dr. Phil!

Jodi - Excellent run and excellent time! WTG. And I'll have you know that I had what will forever in my mind be "A Jodi Stop" at mile 6:05 this AM. Luckily Panera opened at 6:00. I really should have got a bagel or something instead of just using the bathroom. Have fun policing the pastures tomorrow.

I got up at 5:00 to run. Sorry, but that's just WAY TOO EARLY. And like Sara, I didn't sleep well at all either. I guess I was worried about getting up and worried about the LR. Other than the little Jodi Stop as mentioned above, it was a pretty uneventful run. Good, but uneventful. 20 miles completed and I didn't feel like I was dying at the end, so I feel pretty darn good about it.

I got home, took a cold soak and a shower, then took the family to watch DD11 dance at the local Fall Jubilee. I think she had fun. Got home, ate a little lunch and DW insisted that I take a nap. Gotta love it!

Today is our 17th anniversary and we're off in a little while to celebrate with a nice dinner. I hope the food is good 'cause I'm starving!

What a day of posting!

Dave - And 20 miles is all you needed to do today, congratulations:thumbsup2 . Honestly, if I had run in the sun & humidity I would never have made it, I don't hold up with this weather good @ all. When my run ended around 9, the sun was still behind all the fog, just starting to creep out. At aroun noon & tried to walk the dog around the block & we both turned around half way down the road. Think back to those cool a.m.s just a few short weeks ago when you were bangin' out sub 9 mmiles. Don't sweat it (no pun), you'll be fine in 3WEEKS, yes, 3 WEEKS.
Hang in there, buddy, we're here for ya.

Mike - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! HOW WAS DINNER? CONGRATS!:cheer2: So, you had a Jodi Stop, sorry to hear that dude, welcome to my world:rotfl2: I'm glad your run was uneventful, if you could all running 20 miles uneventful! Good deal, you're all set now for the 28th!

Sara - WOW, sorry your day is so heinous. Having said that, I'll reiterate that when I don't get sleep, there's nothing good about the results. You're husband needs to stop snoring NOW:laughing: , tell him I said so! Honestly, that would drive me insane, not to be insensitive to his issues, but the mans gotta do something, ASAP, you've got miles to cover;) . I don't know what to say about the leg, what's going on with it? I hope you're ok, man we're dropping like flies, don't do any damage, please. Rest. And what's wrong with 12 miles on the dreadmill?:thumbsup2 That's quite an achievement in itself. Be happy with it & maybe fit in a 10miler next week if the leg allows, kay? I have to stand w/ my DS in a corn maze for 5 hours tomorrow telling people how to get out of the maze (I have no idea how to do this, got lost myself the other week:rotfl: ). All the $ we make goes to his school. Better than wrapping paper & magazine drives!:scared1:

Colleen - I have no specific time in mind for MCM, just gonna let it go like it does.

Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

It was a fun day of posting yesterday, wasn't it? It was fun thinking we're all going through the same thing in our training. Don't worry about me being down about my LR yesterday, I'm not at all. In fact, I feel good about it. I had a great time out there. The 20 miler really cleared my head, let me think, and sometimes let me space out too. I listened to the DIS Unplugged podcast - to get a little Disney fix and be wisked to my happy place and just had a good time. I'm not concerned at all that I bagged it at 20 miles instead of 23. To be honest, because I was thinking 23 miles the whole way - to stop at 20 made it seem easy. Can you believe it? My mental mindset was OK here I am at 20 - I'll JUST do 20 today instead of 23. No problem, I'll just stop here at my 20. Then I walked about another mile before DW picked me up, and I felt fine. I think I would have been just fine if I had eaten better last week, and if I could have gotten out earlier to avoid the heat. I hit 20 miles pretty near right at noon. Uuugh it was hot. I got home, took a cold soak, took a shower, and I felt a lot better.

Fun thing I did last night, DW had to go down to the girl scout camp to help with dinner. So it was me and DD6 pooh: in the evening. Ratatouille just came to our bargain theater. DD6 pooh: had seen it, but I hadn't. So we had a Daddy/DD6 pooh: date night going to see Ratatouille and dinner at Friendly's. It was a great evening. Ratatouille was a really good movie. Those Pixar people are amazing!

Mike- Thanks for the advice Dr. Phil. Actually your words meant a lot to me. I appreciate it. Great job on the 20 miler. WTG!

Sara- Did you ever get your last 8 miles in? Did you ever get some sleep? You're doing this to hang out with your cool/fun WISH buddies, right? ;) Seriously, I feel for you with your leg trouble. Right now look at it this way, see if the taper gets your leg healed up and strong again. You now have 3 weeks to get healed up. That's what your supposed to be doing in the taper.

Jodi- Have fun corn cop! I hope you're not out there in the heat. We had thunderstorms roll through yesterday that cooled it off a little. So I'm going to hitch my wagon to you during MCM - to have you drag me to sub-10 min miles during the race.

Chester- Hello out there. :wave2: How did your last LR go?

Hi Colleen- :wave2: I was thinking of you a lot during my LR yesterday. I feel for you because you started this whole MCM WISH group. I'm really going to miss not running with you again, but we'll have to figure out another time. Hope you're doing OK. Get yourself healed up for Disney.

BTW everyone, it's TAPER-TIME!!! :cool1:

Oh, forgot to add, another couple reasons I was so stressed out this week with my decsion whether to run MCM or not is because Chicago Marathon is today (I ran it last year) and I know a couple people from here that are running it this year. Also, my sister and her husband are running a marathon in Portland today. So my head has really been around this marathoning addiction I have going...I think I need a full time job...oh, wait a minute, temporary mental lapse, maybe not.:rotfl:

Colleen - I was thinking you must have been real glad you ran Chicago last year because it is 90 there today. Not good for 26.2 miles.

Jodi - I hope the corn maze was kind to you today and you had lots of fun with DS.

Dave - Glad you had an awesome evening to cap off your day with the family. Only 20 miles...

Mike - Happy Anniversary!! Great job on the LR:cheer2: . Thanks for the leg advice.

Okay, I posted this last night but it disappeared. DH went out and bought a king sized air mattress to sleep on in the family room for the next couple of weeks. I guess my deranged state really has him frightened:confused3 . He says he will not be the cause of my not being able to do MCM:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: . He is forgiven for sure:love: . I was able to bang out another 3 miles in the evening so I will take 15 miles for the day as a victory. I did some reflexology and my plan is to take it as easy as my hard core personality will allow me to during the taper in the hopes that it will give me the best chance for a fairly comfortable race. I am not going to sweat it and work myself into a frenzy.

Happy taper time guys:grouphug: . I hope you all have a great week of decreased training.

WOW, did you all hear about the tragedy at the Chicago Marthon yesterday? What an awful story, a 35 y/o dead, I'm eager to see if he had a prior history of some kind or if heat played a role. They canceled the marathon after 4 hours...that means I wouldn't have finished. While I think it was the right thing for them to do, I wonder how I would feel if I flew all the way out there & was told I couldn't finish. I probably would've stopped longed b4 that, but the heat doesn't effect everybody the same, some people can deal with it. That poor man's family.

More later.

Hi Jodi- I did hear about the Chicago Marathon. Actually, you would have finished - because you had to have reached the halfway point by 4 hours. They closed the 2nd half of the course. I feel badly for the man that died and his family. How awful. The heat's been crazy this year. Of the marathon's I've paid attention to this year, a lot of them have had record heat: Disney (of course), the Disneyland half marathon was over 100 degrees, Grandma's Marathon (that Sara ran in), and now Chicago. Even the Flying Pig Marathon that I ran the 1/2M at was pretty warm and a runner died on the full marathon course. Oooh, I hope it's not that hot for us at the MCM.

Colleen- That Star Wars Lego video was an absolute riot! I watched it with DD9 princess:, and we both laughed and were singing the song afterwards.

Mike- Belated Happy Anniversary!

Sara- Did you get some sleep last night with your hubby in the family room? Congrats on your 15 miles on Saturday. Here's hoping your muscles start healing up.

Dave - Don't even utter the word "heat" when speaking of 10/28!! I will cry since both WDW and Grandma's were too warm for my liking this year. My DS(17) wasn't home last night so DH slept in his room. It was wonderful.

Jodi - I agree that I don't know how I would have felt if I were running Chicago myself. There was a death at the Army 10-Miler also yesterday in DC.

WISH MEET- Since Colleen won't be joining us, I asked her to cancel the credit card guarantee that she had on our reservation for 10/26. Anyone have alternative ideas for a Friday night meeting place? There is a pasta dinner at the expo.

3.5 miles for me on the TM and a little yoga plus lots of ice. No pain during running but the aftermath is still bad.

Sara, keep icing girl! I think I am going to start taking yoga classes, can't hurt. Glad you got some sleep.

Dave, isn't that Star Wars video hilarious! :lmao: My kids loved it, especially DS10, who is the ultimate Star Wars fan. I laughed at the part when Annikan (sp) needed to stand on the phone book to kiss the princess (can't remember her name).:rotfl: It is so well done.

Jodi, girl, what's going on?

I went to my Canadian-Chiro today, I brought my X-rays of my knee and she was able to shed some light on my situation. First of all she said there is NO WAY she would have surgery to remove the bone spurs.

1. She said it would just cause scar tissue and the spurs would probably come back anyway.

2. Try rehab first. I need to strengthen the inner most quad muscle, the vastus medialis so that my patella starts tracking properly. Make's sense...which is what I thought ALL ALONG...I have a muscle imbalance!

3. She said the body is like a running river...once I get my muscles into shape, things will smooth over and take shape in a way that I should have have pain from the spurs. Sort of like the water running over rocks analogy.

4. No running for 4 weeks.

5. Need to cycle and do leg extensions to strengthen the vastus medialis muscle.

So I think I am going to give rehab a shot in the next month, swog, cycle, yoga and strength train. That being said, things may change tomorrow when I talk to my 3rd ortho!:lmao:

Please tell me if you all are sick and tired of hearing all my medical news.

Phooey! My Dad just called me up to say that he won't be able to come with me for the Marine Corps Marathon. He says he has too much to do with the passing of my Mom. He's got a lot of bills and paperwork to do, and shouldn't really get away right now. So I'm back on my own again. Bummer!

Edited: OK, 2 hours later my Dad calls me up to say he wants to come. Yahoo! I'd really like him to be there.

Colleen
I'm sorry that you had to defer the marathon. But, the decision to defer and to address rehabbing the knee will ensure many more opportunites in the future. I will truly miss meeting you in real life and hope to have the chance to do so in January.

Dave
My long run was a no-go last week. In fact, Tuesday and Thursday's 5 miler's were cancelled due to thunderstorms. I took Saturday's 5 miler off since I donated blood on Friday morning. But, I did run the Race for the Taste on Sunday. More on that later.

Sara
There is a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse nearby.....
The Pasta Mess Tent could end up being a little expensive for the non runners. The MCM website lists the cost of $19, with runners getting a $10 discount from a coupon from their race bib.
Is everyone going to the expo Friday evening?

Jodi
9:46 is far from a turtle pace. You're way too modest. You'll be finishing an hour ahead of me on the 28th. I'll miss the belly dancing, the robot and Dave's pole dance.

Mike
After the Race for the Taste on Sunday, I now know how heart rate is affected by pleasant scenery. There were 17% more women than men participating.

2007 Race for the Taste Report
I’ve been looking forward to this race for quite a while. I intended to use it as a yardstick to measure the progress and effect of heart rate monitor training that began just after the race last year.

I ran the 2006 Race for the Taste using the heart rate monitor from my Garmin 305 and saved the results in Garmin Training Center. Since that time, I have been utilizing heart rate training to guide my training sessions and determine the efforts of my workouts.

Last year I finished 57/100 in my age group with a time of 59:39. This year I finished 57/105 with a time of 1:04:30. What the heck went wrong? I was hoping for about 56:00.

In retrospect, I attribute the following conditions:

1. 2 hours of sleep followed by 1-1/2 drive does not help (but, I just had to watch the ending of the UF vs LSU game).

2. Donating blood 2 days before (probably the biggest culprit).

3. Excellent scenery.

All the above contributed to raise my heart rate above normal levels. I ran the whole race at a 5k heart rate but at marathon pace. My breathing levels and muscle exertion were normal compared to training runs. My heart rate just ran 90 - 95% of working range instead of 85%.

So, lessons that I have learned while training for MCM:

A. Don't run off-road after my socks become soaking wet. I will get blisters and then when I slow down because of the blisters and start walking, the blisters will get bigger.

B. Don't stretch a 5 mile lap into a 10 mile lap unless I carry water and fuel or have water and fuel stashed along the course.

C. DON'T DONATE BLOOD BEFORE AN EVENT OR LONG RUN.

Safe training to all,

Chester
W.I.S.H. Half-Fast Marathon Team

Chester - Great to hear from you. Sooo jealous you did the Race for Taste, I've been wanting to do that for a while! I wouldn't dwell on the times & all, like you said, so many different factors can effect a run, I usually blame it on slow people in front of me holding me up:lmao: , as if!! I'm sure the "views" distracted you!

Sara - Bummed to hear that you're having residual pain, what gives? Makes for an aggrevating exercise regime, does the icing help? I don't know what to do for a WISH meet. We're arriving on Fri. afternoon & I'm going to head to the expo to get all that happy crappy done. Should we all meet there? Or did I remember someone saying they wouldn't be there to Sat?

Colleen - I love hearing about your Dr. & Canadian-chiro appointments, DON'T STOP POSTING!! You big gooly:rotfl: . We can all learn from what you are going through. I'm so happy she nixed the surgery idea, ok, I'll ask you to humor me again & buy the ChiRunnin book. It'll cost $15 & may have something worthwhile in it for you:hug: I mean, it can't hurt! In fact I'd like all of you to buy it (no, no kickback) or borrow it from the library. I mean, I know you have to buy into that kinda stuff, but it really helped me!

Dave - I hope your dad is able to make it in the end, but we'll all be there, regardless:) . Perhaps he got wind of your impending pole dance  & couldn't stand the thoughts?:lmao: Seriously though, I hope he's able to catch up with everything & can attend.

CornCopping was good, although it got a little warm. Spencer, DS, & I had to patrole the entire maze making sure there was no monkey business going on. Bad idea sending me to discipline people:rolleyes1 . 3 hours of walking later we both were beat. I got a wicked headache, came home took 4 advil & took a nap. Woke up ok. But what I'm getting to is...on the way to the maze I stopped @ a convenience store to get a big bottle of water for us. In there is this runner-dude all sweaty & stinky (it was around 9:15) buying a gatorade or the like. He had a fuel belt, walkman...ya'll are familiar with the look;) . So I ask him how far he went & he says 12 down 8 to go, I laugh & tell him I did the same the day b4. And guess what, he's training for MCM, too! Isn't that a hoot? We were like NO WAY!! What a small world after all, it's a small world after, it's a small, small world. It's a world of laughter a world of....:dance3:

Oh yeh, ran 50 mins in the sweltering heat 'cause i was too lazy to get up in the am. It stunk & it was actually only 46 mins. 'cause i got violent out there! It happens often! In the heat that is...BTW, if it's going to be 88 & humid on the 28th, I ain't runnin! I won't handle that well. I wish they'd start it at 6 am like Disney.
