Sara's right, Colleen, DO NOT run this thing out of some sense of obligation to anyone but yourself. If it's not the right thing for you right now, that's ok (see Steve's post). I mean, Marines ROCK, but so does Mickey Mouse:lmao: , I'd rather go to the WORLD if I had my choice. And, like Sara, I'm a lone runner, really, remember, I don't talk:rotfl: so don't worry about us.

Sara - Really, you're going to get the cortisone shot?:guilty: . I don't know, I've just read so many articles & talked to so many people who say not to b/c of the long term effects. But then again, there are 2 schools of thought on just about everything. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you.:yay: Now about this belly dancing... SWEET!

I will research the cortisone more before I agree to it. I will also monitor how my leg feels at the time. My ortho is a family friend so he will be straight up with me. More importantly, I need to make sure I am correctly diagnosing my problem and I am not at risk for damage by banging out the miles. The belly dancing class is at the Y and it is the first time I have tried it. I've been looking for one locally for a while now so I was psyched to see it offered. Being on vacation last week I missed class so I am loking forward to it tonight. We'll see about the demonstration...:rotfl2: about the robot at the finish line. You've agreed to this:rotfl: ? I am sorry to have to be glad that you're not all psyched and inspired about the prospect of running 26.2 these days either. I need a good LR this weekend to shake off some doubt:confused: . I know I can get it done but it may not be pretty at all:scared1: . I am also in the "maybe 3 marathons in a year is a little too ambitious" thinking mode right now:eek: .

Sara - That's great, I'm sure you'll receive excellent advice then. I have agreed to the robot, sorry to say. :wizard: Here's some PD to get rid of our negativity. (Frankly, I don't think it'll work:lmao: ).

Thank you Sara and Jodi for your thoughts. I am letting my immature self make decisions for me, because I have a "I don't want to miss anything" attitude! Like I said, two things are going through my head:

1. Will I do damage to my tendon if I run.

2. Is there something else happening in my knee.

If the answer is yes to either one of these, I would be fine about pulling out of MCM. DH thinks I should go get a second opinion about any potential damage the spurs may cause in the next 3 weeks. There is another ortho office in town, so I might try and see them. (My insurance carrier is going to wonder what the heck, this girl hasn't seen anyone in years and now all this??)

Another question, when my doctor talked about a "steroid" shot is that a cortizone shot or something different. Isn't cortizone a steroid?:confused3

Colleen - Yes, cortisone is a steroid. And maybe my thoughts are "old school", but I've always been taught that cortisone is evil.

Colleen - As promised, I've done research today and I would say stay away from the shot at all costs. I will not even consider getting one now. I will have to count on Aleve, my thought-provoking iPod playlist and the scenery to get me through this thing. Of course if there are red cups on the course I have been known to indulge in some suds also to get me through:thumbsup2 You have until tomorrow to make your decision. Just sleep on it for a bit and go get a second opinion if it'll help make your decision easier for you. I'll be thinking of you:hug: .

Jeeze, you ladies are chatty today!

I cannot wait for the finish line! The Robot and belly dancing!?! Colleen, don't let this factor in to your decision, but if you do run I think you will be required to do some sort of a routine. Now if we can talk Dave into some kind of Pole Dance we'll be all set!

There are some very valid medical reasons for a cortisone injection and there truly are a couple of schools of thought for use with athletic injuries but my own medical opinion is that if you need a shot to get you through an event it may be better to wait for the next event.

Thanks for the advice re: the weight training. We did a nice circuit on some new machines but didn't over do. I did venture dangerously close on one of those feet-in-the-stirrups adductor/abductor stretch jobs. Yikes!! No wonder I've never seen another male use on of those!

Hey Dave - You out there?

I did my 5 miles this morning. Pretty interesting (at least to me), I've run a 12, an 8, and 2x5's this week and all ended up with an average pace within 4 second/mile of each other. Consistent if nothing else.

Rest day tomorrow and 20 miles sometime this weekend (although you can be sure that the pace will not match my other runs this week).

As a side note: DD4 can talk, talk, talk. She's been yapping in my ear this whole post, so if something doesn't make sense blame her!

Sara, thanks for doing the research. I really don't have that much pain when I run, it is the inflammation after the run that I am worried about.

Also, I am not worried about the deadline to defer being tomorrow. I don't want to rush into a decision. I may not get the second opinion until Monday, so we will just wait and see what the new guy says.

Funny, during the day today I had definitively made up my mind I was NOT running MCM and then thought well maybe...but Disney will be an easier race...but MCM might have perfect weather...if I have the surgery, I may not be ready for Disney anyway...oh, I have trained for sooo long for this marathon, might as well just do it....well, don't want to do any long term damage to my knee....OS knew what he was talking about and I won't do any damage to the tendon...and around and around we go...:sad2:

Mike, yes, you are right, if a person needs an injection to run, maybe they shouldn't be running...afterall, I am not a professional athlete, this is my hobby.

Colleen - How we doin' this am? Where's your head at?

Sara - Same Question, how's everything feeling?

Dave - :confused3 Where are u?

Chester - see above.

Mike - The way you're running you'll be done long b4 there's any bellydancing or robot-stuff going on:rotfl: . Good luck w/ that 20, are you having this hot, humid weather down there, too? UGh. I'm dreading tomorrow's run. ok, WHY am i runnig this marathon again? Quick somone remind me.:sad2:

Jodi - I blew off belly dancing for a couple of miles last night:confused3 . I just need to build confidence now so I thought it would be best to opt for a run. I am just doing yoga tonight and mentally preparing for a LR tomorrow morning. I am not throwing out a number and will let my body be my guide. You're running this marathon because it allowed you to connect with some great WISH friends silly!!

Mike - I was nearly PMP's with the pole dancing comment:rotfl: . On my computer monitor at work I have a quote that says "some days I'm a pole dancing, back bending, a** kicking Princess" so it just made me laugh. I also had to :rotfl2: about your 4 yo DD yapping at you. I have two DD's of my own who exhibit that same quality which is why I love my job and the peace it offers!! Best of luck on the 20 miles this weekend:cheer2: .

Dave - Thinking of you:hug: and sending up lots of prayers that you and yours are doing well. Please post so we know you're alright:grouphug: .

Best of luck to everyone on their LAST LR before taper this weekend:cool1: :woohoo: .

Sara - That's true, MCM did "introduce" me to ya'll. In fact, I've never gone to an event & known anyone, I've done them all myself. My first marathon was in Hartford, about 1/2 hr from me, & I decided to run it the day b4:confused3 , so I just drove up the next am & that was it. Although my DH did have flowers for me when I got home:hug: , he was a bit flabergasted @ my last minute decision & his unableness to be there. Anyway, I've never stood around with people to co-miserate with @ the starting line, or ran with anyone (like I see so many do) so it might be nice to share the excitement:banana: . I just hope I don't bring everyone down:rotfl: , I'm used to having all these negative thoughts flying around in my head...I'll just have to keep my mouth shut! Hey, I love that saying on your computer, you'll have to add bellydancing to pole dancing:lmao: . Get in on some of those lessons! Good thoughts on your LR this weekend, just go with the flow, woman! I'll be waiting for reports from allpopcorn:: .

Sara - Have you done the Flying Pig b4? I've heard it's rough. Actually, I think I heard that here. My hubby is a big party-pooper & will not run any of these races with me! I really want him to run a half w/ me so he can keep me company, but so far nada. He's in super condition, lifts, runs (I can't keep up with him), but ran track in HS & cross country & is used to going FAST. He doesn't think his body could handle waddling with me for 13.1. Maybe one day when he get real old & slows down. Now all I have to do is find a timewarp thingie machince so I don't age. What about your betrothed, does he run?

Colleen - Did you buy anything cool on your shopping spree? :woohoo:

Colleen - Did you buy anything cool on your shopping spree? :woohoo:

Jodi, I bought socks and underwear for my kids!:cool1: :yay: :rotfl2:

I went for lunch with DH today and informed him that I have decided to defer MCM until next year. I had some inflammation this morning and that was my deciding factor. So I just got off the MCM site and did the deed. Kind of sad, but relieved the decision is behind me. Now I can concentrate on getting this knee better so I can run Disney. I am getting a second opinion on my knee on Tuesday. I will be having the surgery because I now that I know the spurs are there, I can feel them all the time!:rotfl: Funny how that works.

Have GREAT weekend of LR's, I will be thinking about you all. By the way, I am still going to be hanging around this thread, no getting rid of me!:)

Colleen--what a hard decision to have to make--but at least you could defer. And heck, there WILL be other races---I seem to remember some small race happening in Orlando in January!;) PD for your knee!:wizard:  :wizard:

Colleen -Socks & undies for the kiddies??? That's no fun, I thought you were going to get something cool, like a copy of all the songs on Sara's forbidden ipod playlist:rotfl: . I'm glad you're ok w/ your decision, but in light of the situation it was definitely the right thing to do.:grouphug: I'll just have to wait until Jan. to meet you. :music: "You've got spurs that jingle jangle jingle, as you go running marily along!" Scrape that stuff out of there & let's run DISNEY!:wizard: Please don't leave the thread...

Sara - Can't wait to listen to your ipod!! :ssst:

Hey, girl, you are on! Afterall, glad you are running the half marathon the day before because that is the only way I will be able to keep up with you at Disney!:thumbsup2

After MCM, you need to PM me all the thangs on Sara's IPOD.::yes::

Colleen - I'm so sorry you had to make that very difficult decision. Now you can really focus on getting yourself healthy. Look on the bright side. I have to do a 20 mile LR this weekend. You don't!

Colleen- I'm so sorry you had to defer MCM until next year, but I think it's the best decision. You need to think most about your health, and there's no need to do long term damage to yourself for your hobby.

I'm sorry, I haven't been around much at all this week. I've been dealing with a lot of poop at work. The finaly straw that threw me down in the dumps was a meeting I had with my supervisor this week telling me there may not be funding for my position anymore. Yippeee. So I've been scrambling this week to figure out what that means, am I going to have a job, will we have health care, etc. It's been a lousy fall for me.

To be honest I haven't run since Monday. I did 5 miles on Monday and nothing since. I haven't had any energy or motivation to get out the door. It's amazing how quickly my desire to run dissapated. I've got my LR on tap for today, and I'm going to get out there. I can't get out as early as I usually do because I need to drop off DD9 princess: for a girl scout camp at 7:00am. So I'll run after that. It's going to be a hot one. DW just said though - "just think of it like Disney".

OK, I'll let everyone know how it goes when I get back.

Take care out there everyone.
