Petition Started By WDW CM's to Delay Reopening

I feel like if these employees feel as though it’s unsafe then they should stay home and let other employees who want to work and pay their bills do it. Stay home then, ya don’t need a petition to accomplish that.

If you tell your boss you're not coming to work, don't you get fired eventually?

Also, if people feel that it isn't safe for to open, and isn't safe for their coworkers, they should voice their opinions about it.

Yes but not at the rate like they have in June.

It keeps going up. I can't imagine what it will look like in August. This is the reality of reopening and folks not properly social distancing and wearing masks. This is what I'm seeing in AZ. It sucks. But what's the alternative other than collecting unemployment? What could Disney do to make them feel more safe?

Certainly are issues either way.

I thought this too so I wonder what prompted the need for a petition?
Cases started spiking at the end of May.

I find it weird that even with a union, CMs would still start a petition.

Cases were spiking only because of an increase in testing. As recently as 2 weeks ago, the % positive was still trending around 3-4%. Not the case anymore. It’s back where it was at the first peak, around 9%, so nearly double. I wasn’t worried at all 2 weeks ago. Now I am. I still think it will level out by opening but we don’t know that.

See, I am in Indiana, and 9% is GREAT here. We are currently around 10% and that is such a huge improvement, as it was around 20% for a long time.

To me, what these numbers tell me is A) The summer isn't going to "kill" the virus. B) The common wisdom weeks ago was that...most people are going to get this virus. So...this seems to be the case.

WHO recommends 5% or less.

I honestly see the numbers in Florida going up quite a bit over the next few weeks and Disney and everything planned getting put on hold. It's much easier to stay closed then to open and have major issues and shutting down again.

Last I heard about 43000 of the 73000 WDW employees were union members
Thanks. I was just curious. With less than 60% I can see where they dont do much. It's much simular to our states teaches union at about 50% and they don't do much for our states teachers. But on the other hand the union shouldn't do anything if you aren't a member. I work in Public safety and we have a 99% membership, so much better bargaining power.

Well, it looks like this petition was placed by a small group of employees without the knowledge of their unions.

Disney employs a significantly higher number of people than Universal, some of which are elderly or have underlying health concerns. It stands to reason that with more employees, there's more likelihood that someone would speak up.

Also, keep in mind that this is not the first petition. One was started for Disneyland Cast Members over a week ago. When one is introduced, others will follow.

Also, as a note - the $600/week is set to run out at the end of July, which will probably be only 2-3 weeks after these CMs are set to go back to work and really begin interacting with crowds. Money doesn't seem like a factor.
Can one hypothesise from that the union isn't supporting them?
