My family also loves this ride.
Many things contribute to its popularity. First, I think that the Peter Pan story has something for everyone. Pirates, Indians, Mermaids, a dog that's a nanny, Fairies, crocodiles, Danger, swordflights, living w/o grown ups, being able to fly, a great villian, never aging, playing house with the lost boys, a first romance and the enduring love of a parent. Next, the ride is classic. It is one of the original rides at Disneyland. It is far and away the best ride in Fantasyland. The three dimensional figures are better than the painted scenes found in other rides. You are flying above ground. The flight over London is beautiful (that section always ends too soon for me).
This disboard community is about going to a place that makes up happy and where we leave many of our daily cares behind. The parks are essentially our "Neverland" where we refuse to grow up. The poularity of this ride does not surprise me.... at all
