Peter Jenning has lung cancer :(

That is sad. :worried: Peter Jennings is one of those news people that I feel like I "know"...having had him in my living room so many evenings, for so many years.

I heard this on the news this morning. Did they say what kind of treatment he'll be undergoing? I report I heard said he would still be reporting on days when he felt alright.

My Dad was diagnosed and died in May of 1961....I was 3 and barely remember him. :guilty: Hope they have some better treatment for Mr. Jennings than they did back than.

My father-in-law died three months after his diagnosis.

I'm very sorry to hear this about Peter Jennings.

One of our pastors had lung cancer about 30 yrs ago. He was given less than 6 months as I recall. He underwent surgery & then instead of chemo he did the alternative natural diet thing. He is now in his 80s and has some knee/hip problems, but told me he's had enough doctors & hospitals for anyone's lifetime & figures he'll just use his cane the rest of his life.

I've enjoyed watching Peter Jennings on the news for years - even when I haven't agreed with his politics. I wish him well & will pray for his recovery.

I was shocked when I heard it tonight. I feel like I know him too. I wish him all the best.

It said he quit a few years ago, but was a smoker all of his life. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he is 66.

He spoke about it at the end of tonights broadcast.. sounded awful btw... said he quit 20 years ago but smoked during 9/11... saw a statistic on CBS said there was a 95% fatality rate with lung cancer... more deaths than breast, prostate & colon cancer combined...

They said he's starting Chemo next week ... he made a joke about losing his hair..
He's in my prayers.

Christine

My dad died of lung cancer at the age of 57, 18 months after being diagnosed. He had radiation and chemo but the prognosis is poor, after it spreads to the mediastinum. DH's uncle had lung cancer but fortunately it was caught extremely early. He had a lobectomy and radiation and he has passed the 5 year mark. He was unusually lucky.

My best friend's Dad had lung cancer about 20 years ago-he's fine and enjoying retirement now. :)

We saw that statistic too, which freaked out 10 year old DD because DH refuses to quit. They also said 90% of lung cancer cases can be attributed to smoking. I told her to keep working on him, maybe she's the only one who can get him to stop. With all the bad stuff we know about smoking, I can't believe anyone does it.

I just remembered making my dad a little sign that said "Please don't smoke...it's bad for you" and had a picture of a cigarette crossed out like a no U-Turn sign. I was about 7. He hung it up but never stopped smoking and he's on oxygen now.

So very sad, the ravages that the insidious smoking imparts on so many. I wish him well.

My aunt used to have a sign up in her house "no smoking, oxygen in use" and would sit there and smoke right next to her tank. She never did give it up.
