Peter Arnett = TRAITOR?????

Oh, isnt he a piece of work?

This guy is an idiot who needs to stay right over there. How dare he? I just saw a bit on Fox of his interview, he's kissing butt to the Iraqi TV. What a jerk! He is clearly on thier side!

The other reporters left because they wouldnt sink to that level. He is a sad and sorry excuse of an American.

Maybe soon, he will be stupid enough to denounce his citizenship here. I sure dont want him back.

I find it hard to believe that he spoke those words w/o a gun to his head. That interview was shocking and sickening.

I think this quote sums up his agenda the best:

ARNETT: In answer to your question, it is clear that within the United States there is growing challenge to President Bush about the conduct of the war and also opposition to the war. So our reports about civilian casualties here, about the resistance of the Iraqi forces, are going back to the United States. It helps those who oppose the war when you challenge the policy to develop their arguments.

This is just one example of what borders on treason. The statement is clearly NOT true, but he's presenting it to the Iraqi people as fact. Imagine if you're an Iraqi who's opposed to Saddam's regime but afraid to speak out for fear that he'll survive....you'd have to be thinking that the "growing" anti-war movement was going to derail the regime change.

He has acted like a hostage with the Stockholm Syndrome. But he is not a hostage, he is the Village Idiot. IMO his remarks are treason. Like one of the previous posters said, his remarks on Iraqi TV can give a postive influence on the fence sitter who is about to surrender. Now they may fire one more bullet and it only takes one bullet to take a life. This isn't the 1st time he has done this. He might as well keep sitting at the propaganda table with the rest of the Iraqi Regime. It won't be there long.

What is it about these citizens who claim to be Americans?

I understand peoples right to protest, we live in a free country. No one wants war, no one wants to see innocent lives lost. Americans, their coalition forces or innocent Iraq's.

BUT, to claim your one of the reasons so many American are against the war, that the Iraq army is doing a great job defending evil and the American Generals who are planning this attack on evil don't know what their doing on Iraq TV is treason.

I think Mr Arnett should give up his citizenship to this country and go back to his native country.

NBC has just announced that Peter has been fired. He's eating crow as I type this. I fully expect some members of congress to try and do something about his American citizenship.

Are you serious???? Did he really get fired?? I have Fox news on and they are doing a war briefing... if he did not get fired, he should... Please keep us informed..

Did he get fired? I just watched the war briefing too. Must go back and watch!
What an idiot he is. Went from reporting the news to being the news!

Yep, he got fired and you should have seen Matt kissing his posterior. I say fire Matt as well.

I have to tell you the truth.. Katie Couric and Matt Lauer (sp?) make me ill that is why I only watch Fox News... I cannot handle the Blame America first crowd....I just can't..

Just heard they will replay the Matt/Katie/Peter interview at about 10:30. I think on MSNBC? I usually have it on FOX, but think that is where I put it to catch the scoop. Not sure I want to watch it, will make my blood boil...

Peter Arnett commited treasonous behavior during the first Gulf War. I was, frankly, shocked to see him in Baghdad this time. I guess a leopard doesn't change it's spots.

First, NBC tried to defend him and then came to their senses and fired him. National Geographic has also fired him. Hopefully, his career is now ended unless he'd like to work for Iraqi TV or Al Jazeera. I hope to never see him on U.S. airwaves again.

For any legitimate reporter to try to defend his lying, treasonous actions in exchange as justified by his willingness to report from behind enemy lines is disgraceful.

He has also put his crew in danger by his actions. Hopefully, they will get out safely. Peter is on his own. He even remarked, jokingly, that he'll have to swim to a remote South Pacific island.

I didn't see any of this interview at all. I am glad that he got fired though (after reading through this thread). His actions confuse me. The first day of bombing in Iraq my dad and I were glued to the TV. Peter Arnett was reporting live from Baghdad and was on the phone with one of our news anchors (can't remember who). There was some communication problem or Peter Arnett was having difficulty hearing the anchor over the bombs or something. We could still hear him though. At one point there was a big explosion and he could be heard chuckling away as he commented that the presidential palace or some sort of palace had just been hit. He seemed to find it very amusing that the bombs were blowing up Iraq. The news anchor here said something to the effect of it not being fair to Peter that we could hear him when he apparently couldn't here us. It was like the anchor was trying to cover for Peter when he was laughing at what could be perceived as a tragic event. It didn't seem like unbiased journalism at the time - it was clear that he was enjoying the "fireworks". I wonder if the Iraqi government could get a hold of that feed and then see how they feel about him.

From now on I will call him "Bagdad Pete!" Answer me this. I want to E Mail my Senators and Congressman about Bagdad Pete and ask for some action. Is it okay to put a link to this thread in the E mail so they can see the publics ire about this traitor?

"Thankfully he is terminated"

I'm glad to hear that. Of course now you know he will get even more of the wrong kind of support. "poor Peter Arnett, how could they do this to him?"

"Thankfully he is terminated."

Dan, you gotta be careful when you use the term "terminated" in a military environment. :D You probably should have typed that his "employment was terminated".
