Pet owners! Do you LOVE your vacuum?

I have the original Dyson Animal and now hate it. It weighs a ton and doesn't suck that well.(go figure....) I just bought the cheaper Dyson DC25 Ball and it's like night and day. My Animal is a DC14 (the most powerful one they made at the time) and this one is ten times better, but still pricey, over $400. We have two Shih-Tzu's that I now keep cut short but they still like to roll and also have long tail hair and ear hair so it's still an issue.

I would say that your filter is dirty or you have something stuck in one of the air channels.

I worked at Sears when Dyson first hit the market in the US - and it truly is an incredible vacuum cleaner.

We have a Dyson - and as long as you keep the filter clean - and the air channels open - you won't have a bit of trouble.

If you own an animal that sheds- you need a Dyson!

thanks for the advice but the noise wasn't from the filter it was the beater bar, whenever you went onto an area rug and "bumped" it it would make this squealing sound. I removed a small squeegie type device from the beater and that stopped it to a degree but if you bumped into a table leg, chair leg, etc. "the noise" as my saughter called it. We started referring to it as Hades, the vacuum from Hell.

ETA, when I said it didn't suck that well I meant when compared to the DC25, it's a lot more powerful than the DC14 Animal, which was top of the line when I bought it probably 6 years ago. (right when they came out)

We have the new Dyson ball animal (it's purple). We love it. My moms lasa apso/Maltese mix sheds like mad. My parents borrow it weekly. Before the dyson we had an eureka. Worked well...but we burnt it up.

This won't help much, but I have the Dyson Ball. It was pricey but sucks up everything that has ever thought of landing on my carpet.

Bissell pet hair eraser. I don't mind taking out all the filters, sticking my hand up and pulling out all the gunk once a week. I wear rubber gloves and put the vacuum on newspaper. I wash/rinse and dry out all the filters and it's like a new vacuum every week. For $160, can't beat it.
I buy a new paper hepa filter for it about once a year for $6 on amazon.
I don't expect a vacuum this cheap to last longer than a few years, but so far we're on year three and it's still working like the first day we got it. The key is maintenance and I think it's the same with any vacuum. You have to get the dirt out of the machine for it to work right.
I've had Kirby's that didn't work as well as this vacuum.

I also like that I can take the canister off to do stairs and ceilings a lot easier.

I love my vaccuum, but it was really expensive. Its a Meile. I have an Oreck that I'm still using 12 years later as the upstairs vaccuum. Had a Dyson, mine never worked properly.

I don't know the full name of it offhand...but I have a wonderful vacuum that I got from Walmart online only...it has whisper in the name of it. I like this vacuum sooo much better than the dyson. After awhile the dyson just didn't seem to have much suction anymore

.

I called Dyson after having mine for a year and the suction was getting less....the lady walked me through how to clean the tubes. I found a napkin, ballpoint pen, 2 game pieces, hair ties, bobby pins, tissues... it was funny! The suction works fine now that I clean it occassionally!

Plus, with the removable tubes - it is so easy to clean the Dyson!

We have an 80 pound white lab (not the dog in the picture here) and the only way to keep fur from being EVERYWHERE is to run my Roombas every day. I do not have the ones that you can program and I sometimes forget to press the button and I definately notice a difference when that happens! I still vacuum about once or twice per week with my Electrolux.

I love my dyson too, and yes it is expensive, but I've had mine for over 6 years...

My suggestion is to start at the source of the problem, the pet! Get a furminator brush, they are expensive but worth it, just work on your dog a few minutes a day until the shredding is under control, then do it once or twice a week.

DYSON.!
we have two, because i couldn't handle the thought of being without it :)
we've had ours for about 8 years, and it still works like day one. suction is amazing, it never breaks, and the infrequent unclogging is soooo easy to take care of.
we will never buy a different brand (we currently have 1 golden, and 5 cats, 2 are long-hair).
hth:)

It's over 150.00 but I love our Rainbow. It is amazing. It's a water vac so no dust ever goes back into the air. We have had ours for 6-7 years now and it is still going strong. We had it serviced once because I just felt like it was something I should do. But we've NEVER had any problems with it. We don't wear shoes in the house and I am amazed at how discusting the water is every week.

I do have a de-shedding comb for her but tend to get a little lazy about it in the winter,:rolleyes1 in the summer I can do use it outside and not make such a mess in my house! Are the furminators a lot better than the de-shedding combs that you get from petsmart? She just seems to have endless amounts of fur! Going to check out some of the vacuums suggested here I knew I would get lots of good ideas, thanks again!
