"Personally, I think I would make a great stripper!" 8/10 The End

Chapter Two: Neked ladies & the Search for Popcorn

On our way to Chicago, we were looking at the time and thinking we were going to cut it close making it to Garrett's. We had looked online and even called my sister to double check :surfweb: and they had just opened a new store that we were told over the phone that yes, the new location was open until 10 pm. We had directions, we were set. :thumbsup2

We only made one quick stop at a Walmart in Wisconsin Dells. Needed eye solution and the bag ours was in got packed at the bottom. Not worth digging it out. :sad2:

It was rainy and foggy out. Really foggy. Pea soup with extra peas please, foggy. :3dglasses

So we took the wrong exit. The Walmart is on an exit that you do not see the store until you have passed it.

So instead of Walmart, we found this.

I said, with one cloudy contact mind you:

"Nice. Name a restaurant specifically for fat people to eat at and get hit on." pirate:

This was Baylor's reaction:

P1030795.jpg

Because of course, he thought his mother was an idiot. :teacher:

He said, "No, it's a strip club."

I argued, it was not. :rolleyes1

He said, "Can't ya see the trucker lady outline?" :cool2:

Then I went: :scared1: I could not believe I had only read the words and did not pay attention to the rest of my surroundings. Or maybe I can! :rotfl2:

Thank God I was not perusing for a breakfast platter or I might have gotten a fuzzy muffin! :lmao:

So after wetting myself, changing my clothes and feeling like a tool, as well as a confirmed blind bat, we went one more exit forward and found Walmart!

I seriously had my TR on the mind and thought you all would think a restaurant named for those more well rounded than others, would be funny.

If only I knew how funny it would be!

We switched drivers at Walmart and kept heading down the road! When we bought the booger (which is opposite of bugger which is how I had been spelling it) we knew the drivers seat back rest was broke. I just thought I would put pillows behind my back for comfort and be fine. We would worry about fixing it later. It was perfect for Dan.

Well with the pea plus fog, and being stuffed from behind with pillows, it was a white knuckle ride for a few hours. There was also construction for almost 100 miles.

Can I say how dumb that is?

I mean, you cannot fix 100 miles at a time so why not do 20, then move the cones? Why slow down traffic to a single lane for all that time? :confused3

Anyway, we reached the outskirts of Chicago, asked every toll person and knew we were pushing our luck to get to Garrett's.

We finally saw the horizon of buildings and it was like 9:50 p.m.

Drove into downtown, up and down the main drag and planned on banging on the door if it was just past close (well I did cause I am the only one willing to make an @rse of herself for popcorn.)popcorn::

We found the Garrett's at 10:10.

The lights were out and nobody was home. Turns out they are open late on Friday and Saturday nights.

This was Wednesday!!!

So glad we did not get a speeding ticket over a closed store!

If you have not had this popcorn of the Gods, I will tell you that you have no idea how good popcorn can be.

It was one of Oprah's favorites a few years back.

garrettnewslogo_large.jpg

We got it for the first time last year and are in love.

You can order it in a tin. Shipping is not so bad.

I have never liked cheese popcorn before.

This stuff is like crack.

I may just have to give in and order it. :snooty:

You can mix it with their caramel popcorn as well. The caramel is very good.

I am not a fan of mixing though and the kids like different amounts of mix. So I would buy it separate and mix to your liking.

Sorry I failed this mission for you all but here is some stolen food porn!

I am telling you the stuff is amazing and you will wait in line for 20 minutes to get it at any of their shops in Chicago!

I knew we would not be back through Chicago on our way home, so although bummed, Carsyn decided after seeing the mini NYC that Chicago is, we needed to go shopping here before school next year! A 17th B-day trip for sure! :cheer2:

- Carsyn was awake for Chicago. Other than that she was in full hibernation mode!

We got back on the road, headed east then south and, we were exhausted!

Ready to sleep.

So we pulled over, actually in a hotel parking lot, and crashed!

I slept in the back seat - it was not folded down but man is it nice to stretch out a bit.

Dan took the front passenger seat that fully reclines and the kids took the middle row captain chairs that recline as well.

We shut the blinds and settled in at about midnight.

The first leg was well underway. We only needed to be in Knoxville by 4 p.m. for Shannon's house so we were doing great on time! :worship: For once!

I am sad to admit I was one of your lurkers on your Space Mountain TR

I loved that TR so I had to search your new one out!

Sorry about what happened to Baylor in high school we kept getting bomb threats and had to be in lockdown I couldn't imagine actually being that close to a real threat :sad2: I hope your family and Baylor are doing okay

Great first update!

I remember reading about Carsyn on your PTR that is why I hate group projects
She spent like 42 hours on this thing and the next girl closest spent 12. Yet they all got the same grade. Carsyn spoke to the teacher and told him it was B.S. Even the girl who had been over 3 times and spent 12 hours said, Carsyn did almost all the work. She had to do a 40 minute slide show including video footage etc.

The teacher had assigned the groups, Carsyn just was unlucky.

They all got 95%.

I told her to ask the teacher if he would be okay to be paid by "luck of the draw." Ask if he would be fine getting paid the same as a person who comes in once a week to teach art!

So frustrating! And I am a fair parent. Treyner was in groups I told him and his teacher he should not get equal credit for!

Do the work or don't but their should be consequences!

The food looks so good!:thumbsup2

My guess would be 20 although I didn't figure in how much time Baylor spent playing Xbox :lmao:
Great guess!!!
Wow, where have I been ... there's already 8 pages to this TR! Can't wait to read more!

Love the start of it and am looking forward to seeing some of those recipes, too :o

Happy Hump Day
Get caught up and make a guess for the contest!!!
I'm going to guess 2... one on the way there and one on the way back.
Got your guess!

You all gotta guess. I will say we brought our entire DVD collection with....

If someone takes your guess, get a different one!

I'm stalking you again!!! :rolleyes1

My movie guess is 10... That's 20 hours worth of movies for a 50 hour+ drive...

Nancy...

My movie guess is 13. Seems nice and...lucky

On I-95, at exit 70, there is a place called Cafe Risque. Obviously, they don't hide what they are. For about 30 miles, the road is peppered with billboards that say "TOPLESS TOPLESS TOPLESS," followed by "STEAK." I think my boyfriend was seriously considering stopping there on the way to Fayetteville. I told him I would break up with him right then and there and then call his mother to explain why I was walking back home.

Actually, the same trip involved a funny story (which of course, I'm going to share, because this is the DIS and we do that). I am obsessed with Subway. I would eat there every day if I could. Taylor is much more of a McDonalds/Taco Bell person. Well anyway, on this drive I mentioned being hungry, and Taylor says "You know....I really want Subway." I just stare at him for a few seconds, and then shriek "OMG YOU GIVE ME SO MUCH CRAP FOR WANTING SUBWAY AND NOW HERE YOU ARE YOU WANT IT." He rolled his eyes, and we started planning where we would stop. We had kept passing signs for JR Outlets, and both thought it might be interesting to stop. Taylor said "the last time we passed them I think there was a Subway there." I told him I wasn't sure there was one, but he was adamant. So we stop at JR. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, EVER, stop there. It's so bad, words don't describe it. It makes Wal-Mart look like Saks Fifth Avenue. However, there is only one exit in the store. Three entrances, one exit. Which of course, was on the total opposite end of where we were at the time. I was scared we'd never make it out alive.

Anywho, so Taylor spots a Subway sign, throws out an "I told you so," walks over.....and notices the "for lease" sign in the door. I think he wanted to cry. :sad1: I comforted him (after laughing first), and we got back on the road. A little while later, we passed a sign that advertised a SubwaySubwaySubway at the next exit. I honestly wish I had a picture, because after driving through the world's smallest town, we finally found, right smackdab in the middle of a parking lot, all 20 square feet of it....a Subway. Needless to say, I choose where we eat now.

Great trip report so far...and I have to say, we live outside Chicago and LOVE Garretts! It is the best caramel and cheese corn ever! So sorry you missed it on your trip.

No flogging please - this is out of order...but just saw this pic and had to post.

This is Treyner and Taylor when we were in Marathon.

How cute are they together?

Seriously, it should be illegal.

My heart just dropped when I saw this.

I miss that boy and I am so happy as a Mom that he found someone he is so in love with and my only wish for my kids is that they are blessed to be loved back as much as they love and find respect and happiness with their partner.

He is so beyond smitten with her.

Ok - sorry but that picture just made my day and made me miss him a ton.

I gotta say, I love reading people's tales from the road. My family drives down from Cleveland every summer and I have some great memories from our road trips. I think there's just something about being cooped up a car for that long that makes people do crazy things.

BTW, I'm disappointed y'all didn't stop in at Cruisin' Chubbys. It would have made for an interesting review on the dining board. :lmao:

Oh, and my guess for the number of movies you watched is 3. I don't know why - I just like the number. :upsidedow

Ok I must be losing what little is left of my mind! I thought somehow I had already subscribed to this, but I know I was not on DIS this weekend so I am thoroughly and utterly confused:confused3!!!! And then to be on page 9 :scared1: the shock of it all it too much!!

Anyway glad to be here with you, again, and off to a great start as usual!

So my guesses were already taken so I am gonna go with 7! Keep the reports coming!:cool1:

OMG they look like models. What a perfect looking couple and she has such beautiful eyes! How do her eyelashes look so perfect - it kills me!!

She gets them permed. No joke. So don't feel bad - just save money! :lmao:

My movie guess is 23. Great update! I might have to order my dad some of that popcorn, he is obsessed with popcorn and always on the hunt for the best!

The comment about the strip club kills me. It is something my mom would have said. :lmao:

Oooooo I guess 16 :wizard:
GOt it!
Still unaware as to what Nutteroos are!!!! :confused3

Sarah
They are cookies that are peanut butter flavored with a peanut butter creme frosting in the middle!
I'm going to guess 5 movies :goodvibes
Okey dokey!

You will be daughter of the year if you get that for him for Fathers day! I was told the tin popcorn lasts like 30 days. Before we have only bought fresh.
The comment about the strip club kills me. It is something my mom would have said. :lmao:
Such an idiot moment and then to have your 14 year old son explain it to you like you are a geezer in the home! :lmao:

I guess 8. Can't wait for another update!! :goodvibes

Have I said I love your name - I have a friend who has a daughter named that and then the famous Cosby college spin off show of course - other than that - nobody else...
