Here's a forward I got about Peroxide-

>
> Peroxide VS Bleach
>
> This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share it with you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me:
>
>
>
>
> "I would like to tell you of the benefits of that
> plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide.
>
> "Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office?
> NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better!
>
> "Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine, folks! And it was used to kill our troops.
>
>
> "Peroxide was invented during WWI. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this:
> 1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.
>
> 2.. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.
>
> 3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
>
> 4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria..
>
> 5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
>
> 6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
>
> 7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
>
> 8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
>
> 9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
>
> 10. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath
> to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
>
> 11. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
>
> 12. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.
>
> "I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! "With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner!"
>
> This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it, too.
>
> Pass this on .. and on .... and on!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There we go folks. I'm going to be using this stuff in the near future!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, I will still research it more but it sounds like a good idea...especially when I think about how when I clean the bathroom with a bleach spray it burns your throat!

We keep peroxide at our home as well, but our son had a Staff Infection and was in the hospital two times and 7 operations and they said not to use Peroxide to clean it, this is two different hospitals and also a home nursing service. The wound needed to be cleaned twice a day but by only using saline solution. They said peroxide delays healing which is against everthing we were taught..

Maybe I'll stick to cleaning things... not myself. :rotfl:

Here's Snopes take on this email.....
http://www.snopes.com/medical/homecure/peroxide.asp
I check everything on Snopes. :) It does appear to be useful for some of what the email suggests but I'd be hesitant to put it in my nose. My dentists suggest gargling with a saline solution made with warm water and sea salt when I've had mouth infections so I do that. :)

I use it for blood stains...works like a charm, the sooner you get it on the stain the better it works! I also use it to whiten my teeth, swish it around with 1/2 water for approximately 1 minute.

I had an open incision after a surgery and the surgeon told me to soak the impacted gauze in hydrogen peroxide to make it easier to pull out, softens the scab that forms. I know, gross, but it worked.

I'm a NICU nurse and our hospital got rid of peroxide years ago-does more damage to healing tissue than help. I'd be really careful using it on open wounds. It does do a great job getting out blood stains-mix with a little Dawn dishsoap and rub in before washing. JMHO

I have been using it with a Butler gum stimulator for my gums. I dip it in the peroxide in a paper cup and put it between my teeth and gums to kill the bacteria that causes gum pockets and which can lead to tooth loss. My pockets have gone from 4's and 5's to 1's, 2's and a few 3's. I've been using it for about 10 years after a rather expensive analysis at my dentist. The info from me is free!;)
It is also good for removing ink from clothing. I wet a washcloth and pour peroxide on it and rub the ink stain.

I use white vinegar 50/50 with water for cleaning.
and is safe around babies, good disenfectant. I read that is the safe cleaner they use for killing germs in the commercial around babies, and spray around the food drawers.

I pour some in toilet bowl, some in garbage disposel after a primer of baking soda to clean and disenfect.

Also cleaning pet stains and orders. Keeps pets away from that area again pretty well.

cleaning my microwave, mirrors in the bathroom, sinks, cleaning floors.
I bought a Clorox microfiber floor cleaner, like an oversize Swifter mop, with reuseable cloths. I wring out the cloth in the solution and wipe the floors. I pretreat the sticky stuff, or spills.

Clean the garbage cans too. It is only pennies per use with a huge gallon vinegar jug.

If you forgot bathing suits or towles and have that funky moldy smell, try a cup in the wash water overnight.

Baking Soda at SAMs is $5 and a huge bag. Use for a scrubber, in the wash water, deoderizing carpets, I dip my tooth paste with a bit to polish my teeth.

Disinfectant/General Cleaning Spray

The easiest one by far is just half and half cheap white vinegar and water.

For a little more germ fighting and deodorizing power you can add 7/8 drops of tea tree oil and an ounce or two of lemon juice to 10oz of vinegar (plus 10oz of water) or 7/8 drops of any citrus essential oil instead of the juice.

Just put this in an empty spray bottle and you have a very cheap and effective disinfectant and general cleaner.

POWDER LAUNDRY CLEANER
3 bars Fels Naptha
3 cups Borax
3 cups Arm and Hammer Washing Soda.
Grate the Fels Naptha, then put in a food processor with a chopping blade and chop until fine.
Pour into a large bowl with the Borax and Washing Soda and stir until combined.
Use 1/4 cup in a HE front loader, use 1/2 cup in a top loader. In my HE front loader, it dissolves perfectly

Use Vinegar as the fabric softener/ place it in a Downy laundry ball.

As a doctor's wife it seems odd she has a raging case of nail fungus and boils on her skin. Blech.

That's what I use on blood stains too, with cold water. Hot water sets blood stains.

YES YES YES!! I love it, cause these are pretty much all the things I do....

I recently read some data on a study where they tested the germ/bacteria killing power of different "chemical" cleaners, including straight bleach, against spraying vinegar, then peroxide on counters.... the vinegar and peroxide won hands down. The recommendation was to have two spray bottles - one with vinegar (cut with water if wanted) and one with peroxide... and spray them one after the other on any surface to clean... wipe well with a damp cloth and done!

I love microfiber clothes too. I use a roll of paper towles forever with the microfiber around. I have larger ones like hand towel and thicker. Then I have a set of 16 that are wash cloth size 12" by 12" . I buy from HSN and Kmart.

They will even handle a two liter bottle of soda across the floor.
THe colors I can keep one set for the kitchen only, one for general cleaning, and another in the bathrooms.
