Now that I don't believe. I can't count the number of pictures my friends and I have of us inside a Wal-Mart store acting like silly. No one certainly ever said anything to us and there are plenty of employees standing around doing absolutely nothing to begin with.

It's in their handbook. Not sure if it's strictly enforced at the store you shop at. But, maybe they weren't actually standing around doing "nothing" to begin with, as you thought, but were in fact working hard, deciding baby sitting you and your friends was not the priority at the time. Not everyone who works at Wal-mart is a good for nothing bum as some people think. I'm not a fan of Wal-mart, but the generalizations that are drawn are ridiculous sometimes.

We have a no picture taking policy at the store I work at. It is rarely enforced. If a website like that existed for my store, I have a feeling it would start getting enforced pretty fast.

Those pictures are from stores all over the US. Random people take them and send them in to the website. Your store could very well be one of them.

Des anyone here remember a few years back the DIS was going to have some kind of section that did just this. Posting pictures of "odd" people that was spotted at Disney.
The outrage here about it was incredible! People were ranting and raving all over the place.
So does making fun of these people make it somehow "ok" because it's Wal-mart and not Disney?

Kind of an interesting perspective on socio-economics.

That's true. I remember being one of the ones kind of outraged about it. Okay, maybe not outraged, but just disgusted.

The difference is, this site is supposed to be a family-friendly site and you don't expect that type of mean spiritedness. The Walmart site exists solely to mock people who are different.

I have to admit that I'm pretty ambivalent about the Walmart site. On one hand, the low-brow side of me gets a chuckle out of some of the characters pictured there. But on the other hand, it's just not in my nature to be hurtful to others, and for them to be unwittingly exposed to that kind of mockery is awful.

I don't work for Wal-Mart, I work for a different company, I just said that because we do have that policy, even though it isn't strictly enforced. If I did see someone taking pictures of people they are not with, I would tell them to stop.

I guess I'm an old fuddy duddy. I don't see the humor in making fun of others. It is true that some of the people were odd by my standards. That doesn't give me the right to make fun of them. I think this is just another sad commentary on life today.

Find a form of humor that doesn't make fun of someone or something.

Took a peek at the first couple of pages before I got bored and left. :sad2:

Add me to the list of fuddies and duddies; I think this is one of the most degrading and insulting things I've seen, and this is coming from someone who was degraded and insulted right out of school in the 11th grade so many years ago.

I do try to make an effort to cover up my fatness (you're welcome, to all of those who can't stand the sight of overweight people ) But I *certainly* don't believe that I'm in any kind of a position to judge others. Don't like what I'm seeing? I look away; certainly not going to judge and vilify someone else for their own concept of what's "normal" and "right".

People are not making fun of people because they are overweight, they are making fun of people because their butt cheeks are hanging out of their shorts, or their stomach is hanging out under their shirt or they are male and have breast implants and go almost topless to the store to show them off. If you dress like that you are asking for attention in the same way the guy in the costume or the woman in the furry boots are. If you are confident enough to go out in public like that having your picture posted on a website isn't going to bother you. If you are sensitive about your weight you aren't going to go to the store in a bikini top or in a half shirt that shows off your belly.

Maybe we need to make a new rule-no humor allowed :confused3.

What about the folks on there who are just out minding their own business, with no flab or anything weird going on with them, but the person taking the picture thought they were funny? A few that come to mind include a man wearing a country/western looking shirt, a man with denim shorts rolled to about 2 inches above his knees, a woman in a Steelers tee shirt with pink shorts, and an elderly woman in a sparkly tank top.

Heaven forbid they don't meet a fellow Walmart shopper's standard of fashion.

:rotfl: this site is HILARIOUS! i didnt realize this is how some of the walmarts are like in the states?! ive never seen anyone strangely dressed or the crazy cars! the walmarts around me are actually really clean and nice with just normal people around?! its the same as going into any other store.

Yet people on this site are still thinking that site is hilarious. I don't get how people can think that's okay, and are able to justify making fun of others. It's just wrong.

Family friendly? Apparently you missed the picture of Michael Jackson giving the finger and talk of erections on the Adam Lambert thread. ;)

After being to wal-mart around here and seeing some VERY STRANGE and VERY SCARY LOOKING people, it's a weird phenomenon, they just seem to be attracted to Wal-Mart.

I have no problem with the site, except maybe they should hide people's faces if they're showing.

Maybe a black bar or blurred face? Anyway, you haven't lived until you've shopped there after midnight. What is really interesting is the combo of things people buy!:rotfl2:

I gotta say, I found that site hilarious. Guess that makes me evil cause I laughed at the crazy choices some people make. Live and let live, but if you don't realize that you're dressing really differently than the rest of the population (not counting religious dress), people will snicker and make comments to themselves.

Just curious though, the people that don't like that site, do you feel the same way about the shows like "What Not to Wear"? Cause they're essentially doing the same thing, they just get a new look out of it.

:scared1: WHAT??

Okay, gotta go look them up now.

Let me rephrase myself... this is "supposed" to be family friendly. :teeth:

I don't think anyone's evil for getting a kick out of the site. Like I said, I feel ambivalent about it. I'm not perfect and can have a mean streak of my own that comes out once in a while. But I do think it goes a little too far. Like I said before, there are people on there who aren't dressing outrageously that are being picked on as well.

I don't watch those shows... don't they agree to participate?

Your parents must be so proud.

Thank you, they are. :thumbsup2

Look, if a person is wearing gigantic red furry boots, has 2 feet long fingernails, or has dozens of cats glued to their car, you can't convince me that they're not screaming for attention.
Though there are some that I just don't get. The guy in the western shirt, the decent looking older lady in blue, the guy in the meat department wearing jorts? Look like regular people to me.

And people have to be aware by now that if you have a mullet, you are going to be made fun of.

I think the person in the Steelers shirt and pink short shorts was a GUY and that is why that was posted. Looks kind of like his legs were shaved as well.
