people wearing ponchos on water rides :o

oh okay. I think I've seen those before, I just never knew what they were called.

On all water rides, the whole fun of the ride is wondering if you will be the one to get soaked. And if you dont get wet, then you have fun laughing at the people who did. I guess it all depends on your opinion, but I personally would never get caught dead wearing a poncho on any ride at WDW.

This year I'm taking a poncho with me, I'm either going to wear it or ride all the rides that I might get wet on last thing before we are ready to leave the park. Even in the heat of the summer I do not want to walk around in wet clothes.

Thank you so much. I am glad we wont feel so alone going on the rides wearing ponchos. My ds refuses to ride water rides because he hates being wet, but loves water parks go fiqure. My dd and dh and myself love them and dont mind being wet though it is uncomfortable. Two years ago my dd had chaffing from walking around wet from Busch Gardens. This year we will be wearing ponchos so noone laugh to hard at us please. I agree with Hobbes we got soaked on that ride too.

Definitely NOT wanting to go without a poncho when I ride Kali in December! I'm thinking in May it'll be fine!

In January we definitely wore our ponchos on Kali-when it's warm enough we don't. My DD6 usually wears her bathing suit if the weather calls for it. Wish we HAD worn our ponchos on Splash. We went for EMH p.m. and got soaked. It definitely put "damper" on things. (LOL). We were cold the rest of the evening, I think it was in the low 50's and left early. It was the wettest we've ever gotten on Splash. We got nailed by another log coming down the big drop. My daughter still talks about whose great idea was it to go on Splash?

Exactly the way I feel! I'll be wearing my poncho in January for sure :thumbsup2

I haven't read the other posts yet but I agree! I have never worn a poncho on a water ride. Getting wet or seeing who gets the most wet is part of the fun I think!

Poncho wearin' girl over here!

Kali River Rapids DOES get you soaked....Doesn't it? Last time we went on that ride....Our DD's were wearing ponchos (*They* didn't want to get wet). I was wearing a bathing suit & My DH braved it....So, Most of us were prepared! Turns out we were the ONLY ones who Didn't get wet! Everyone else got DRENCHED! (I got sprayed a little by someone shooting the spray guns or whatever you call them-Not too bad!) The water was So Cold & at the end of the ride it seemed like all of a sudden there was a cool breeze in the air. (This was in Feb.) I felt so bad for everyone else....they were So Uncomfortable. One girl, maybe about 9 or so started to cry :sad1: :

Oops!....The ride that I was actually talking about in my last post was Congo River Rapids at Busch Gardens. (Omit "Kali" & insert "Congo" :))

After reading all of the posts about Kali at AK....I'm ready to try that one! :thumbsup2 *Question to self*: Poncho OR No Poncho??? :scratchin hmmmmmm it IS getting pretty warm out lately and I Will have that change of clothes!

By the way, I never knew how the non-poncho wearers felt!....This is All News to me!....Whenever we go to the parks & pull out our ponchos....Everyone I come into contact with says "Why didn't we think of that?!" Oh well, "to each his own" I guess!

Being wet might be okay when it's sunny and warm, but WDW isn't just open in those conditions. We've worn ponchos on Splash Mt. in the evening when we had other plans for letter and didn't want to be SOAKED and during evening events like MVMCP. Our girls love Splash Mt. and didn't want to miss it but we had no interest in being soaked. Yout get just wet enough to get a kick but not soaked to the point you can't enjoy things you shouldn't be wet for.

One word: CHAFING. It kind of messes up the fun of the trip if getting wet whilst fully-dressed means ending up in agonizing pain for a week.

I tried ponchos and found that they just were not good enough, as somehow my seat and legs still got too wet and I still ended up w/ chafing. As it is usually too hot to wear a full rainsuit w/ a drawstring waist when we visit, I went the opposite way -- I created a special outfit to be worn on days when I expect to do really wet rides. I wear a pr. of mens' supplex swim trunks, and a sports bra and cycling jersey made of moisture-wicking fabric. I also carry a swimmer's chamois in my bag, which I use to dry my hair after, and also to tie around my waist after the ride, as it will draw water out of any fabric.

:rotfl2: this reminds me of my 80 yr old parent's picture of them on sm...all bundled up in their ponchos... as if the look of shock on their faces wasn't enough to make you chuckle ... if it's that cold i don't do any thing that i'd get soaked on but usually it's not a problem to me, wet knickers not withstanding

now i could be easily be persuaded to bring a big garbage bag to put my feet in..i hate to walk around in wet socks and shoes and hate to bring an extra pair also but my tevas (which i bought just for such occasions )are not comfy either:rotfl2:

One thing I expect when going on KRR is that I am going to get wet. Last year I had denim shorts on and got soaked ( and you know when denim is drying, your butt freezes). This year we are going to take extra shorts and underwear in a backpack (tshirts dry fast) to change into when we are fininshed riding KRR. I always wear flipflops that day so that I don't have to worry about my feet when they get soaked. To me, part of the ride is getting wet but I never laugh at people with ponchos on because not everyone likes getting soaked.

I have never worn a ponch on a water ride (wished that I had a few times). But I agree. . . wet socks and sticky wet clothes were ok until I was 12 or 13 but at my age. . . it's AWFUL!!!!!! We almost ALWAYS take extra socks if nothing else. Sometimes even whip out the trusty flip flop while the tennis shoes hang out in a zip lock bag!!! ha ha :teeth:

I'm in my early 30's and my parents are in their late 50's and early 60's and we've never worn a poncho. We usually pack an extra pair of underwear in the camera case. The only reason we do that is probably 20 years ago Dad wore red underwear under white pants. Now that's really embarassing. I do laugh at the people who wear ponchos. We all wear tennis shoes and they seem to dry pretty quick. My suggestion is go on a really fast ride right after the water ride and you will dry quickly. For example we'll do Big Thunder Mountain right after Splash Mountain and we're dry in no time. Dad also puts powder in his shoes and he tends to leave little soapy footprints and bubbles coming out of his shoes. Otherwise we do stay at a Resort hotel so we'll just take a bus back to the hotel and change. Mom does carry a back pack so we usually just bring underwear and socks.

Me, myself, would never wear a poncho, but can't blame folks who do.

Last time on Kali what tee'd me off....the other folks on the raft took their shoes off and stuffed them in the center compartment, leaving no room for everyone elses's purses, fanny packs, etc. I had to ask the CM to have the others remove them, so we could put my pack and camera case in there, since MY request to them was ignored.

We wore ponchos on Kali in December, but that was it. Honestly, they were more hassle than anything after they were unfolded. That said, I did buy one for each of us for this year's trip. Whether or not we use them will probably depend on the weather. I've never worn them on SM, but I do bring a plastic grocery bag to protect our bag and camera.
