People smoking in line

Name calling is rude, but you have to ask yourself, is smoking an intelligent act?

But you have to admit, insulting a total stranger of unknown temperment, holding a lit object isn't very bright either. :rotfl:

UH, i wasnt rude or snarky. I was concerned about her cough! :joker:

ok,,,now I was being a "smart butt"

lighten up folks..... popcorn::

To all the folks who think that WDW should be a totally smoke-free environment (there are CHILDREN at WDW, don't you know!!!):

Well, IMHO, I think that WDW needs to implement "Junk Food" areas!!! Obesity is the biggest health risk out there today.....why should the folks who ALWAYS eat only healthy food be forced to share space with the junk food munchers??? Don't they know how unhealthy it is??? I don't want my children exposed to such filth!!! It makes my stomach turn to have to be in WDW and watch folks scarfing down big, smelly, oozing burritos, you know!!! Hey, better yet, why doesn't WDW get on the healthy-eating bandwagon and sell NOTHING but healthy, organic food in the parks??? This is not true about my family, by the way....just trying to drive home a fact that there are ALSO other things at WDW that are unhealthy besides smoking!!! What would you people who advocate for a total non-smoking policy in WDW have to say if Ma abd Pa Healthy told YOU that you cannot get a Mickey Bar anymore???

OH BOY!!!! I would LOVE to see what would happen if WDW started to look out for the COMPLETE health and well-being of all of their guests!!!! People would go beserk!!!!

The only people I think have a leg to stand on are the handful of North Americans who adhere to a TOTAL healthy lifestyle....no bad food..EVER, no smoking, no alcohol....EVER, no acetaminophen, no MSG, no this, no that, etc. etc!!! You don't smoke? GOOD FOR YOU!! It IS a horrible habit and I wish I didn't have it (sometimes) but having designated smoking areas in outdoor public places is not going to kill ANYBODY!!!!

yes, there are signs, but they aren't huge or very noticeable. Mostly, I figure if there's an ashtray and lots of folks smoking, it must be one! :rotfl:

Obviously they aren't very noticeable since I didn't see them. Maybe there should be better signage.

I notice the signs, but I guess I have also been to the parks so many times I just know where they are. The smoking sections usually have quite a few people in them that are smoking, so even if you don't see the signs, its usually pretty obvious once you enter it that it is a smoking section.

It really doesn't even bother me if a smoker goes off in an out of the way corner and smokes in a non-designated section. It's when they do it somewhere like in line or walking through the crowd in the walkways where you are not expecting to encounter it. (Then I will *cough cough* like a cat coughing up a furball, not to be passive aggressive, but that is the way my asthma presents itself - triggered by smoke or anything else I am allergic/sensitive to. I will also be pulling out my inhaler and using it, so it is pretty obvious my cough is for real.)

I just want to note that I am not upset about it or anything. Once I realize where I am, I just move. I don't do the fake cough, or comment. Some places I noticed signs, but there were two where I didn't. I guess what I am trying to say is, maybe better signage in those areas would be helpful so that there aren't any conforntations. :)

I think MGM has the worst signage for smoking areas!! In fact, they just have the worst smoking areas PERIOD!!!! You can hardly figure out where they are and WE'RE LOOKING for them!!! :rotfl:

And that's exactly where I was thinking. :)

Here we go--
the old comparing-obesity- to- smoking argument.
Apples and Oranges.
Not the same.
Yes, they are both unhealthy. There is no second hand junk food. The candy bar does not travel into the body of the person next to you, the way smoke can and does.
A total ban at WDW probably wouldn't work. Keep the designated areas and maybe put up more or bigger signs. Hey it's Disney. Theme up the areas. Make the smokers want to go there. Have a talking robot ashtray or something. :)
Maybe have smoking rooms like you see at airports. That way there is no chance of accidently walking thought the area--you would have to open a door for access.

I just have to add in here

1. Everytime we were on the monorail or ferry and nearly everytime we
rode on a tram going to the park, an announcement was made that DW is non-smoking except in designated areas as shown on the map. Doesn't anyone listen to these announcements? I think DW does do a good job of
getting the word out about smoking.

2. We were there for 7 days during Thanksgiving (very crowded) and only once did we see anyone smoking outside of a smoking area. That's 1 in
several hundred thousand people! For someone to imply that DW has a problem with people smoking all over the place all the time is greatly exaggerated, and that 1 in hundreds of thousand people hardly constitutes the need for a complete ban.

3. Smokers have the right to smoke. DW has the right to limit it to certain areas. Non-smokers have the right to not have second hand smoke blown on them. I personally am really tired of all the condemnation of smokers. To me, it is hypocritical for people to criticize smokers for smoking in designated areas citing health issues. Many of these critics gorge themselves on junk food, (let's ban that) and drink and drive (let's ban alcohol too). Before you say well, it's different with smokers because smoking affects other people, let's take a look at how many people have
been killed or injured by drunk drivers. Before you complain about smokers, ask yourself this: Have you ever driven home after a game or a party when you have been legally drunk? If so, then you, too, have put the
health of others at risk. Drinking and driving is illegal and yet people do it all the time. So while we're pushing for a ban on smoking because a few smokers don't stay in designated areas, let's ban drinking as well because of those who drink and drive, and anything else that might possibly affect the health of others. Let's take away the rights of an entire group of people rather than hold those who violate the law responsible. Here's one I saw at DW that should be banned - parents having their infants (3-4 months old) in a theme park at night with temperatures in the 30's! In fact, let's just ban everything that other people do that we don't like!

BTW - I am not a smoker.

I am a smoker. DH is a smoker. We ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go to the smoking areas to smoke.

There has been THREE incidents where non-smokers were sitting where we were smoking and ASKED US to put out our cigarettes! :confused3 That was outside the POC ride....and I looked at that man and said "Sir, you are sitting in the smoking section"...he took out his park map and looked and then gathered his stuff and huffed away after calling us STUPID SMOKERS. :furious:

Ok...yes, it may be stupid to smoke, but Its my business, not his, and he should of paid attention to where he was sitting. Now, if I was sitting in a NON SMOKING section puffing away, then he had every right to tell us to stop smoking.

The other 2 incidents were in Epcot and the other people gave us dirty looks, started "coughing" and asked us to put cigarettes out, I replied, "this is the smoking section...you might need to leave with that cough you have going on". They left. And the other was just dirty looks at me and DH and then they looked on maps, and quietly said..."oh , we are in the smoking section...lets leave".

So, not just smokers do the unthinkable! :thumbsup2

I can't believe you were treated like that. I'm the pregnant poster from above and I don't want to be rude to anyone...I just want what is best for me and my growing child. I will be SURE to look at my map for smoking sections to steer clear. I didn't think about it from this view!!

I just don't get it. How can people be so inconsiderate?

Perhaps they do not know it is park policy.

wow...i agree, CMs really need to enforce this rule

I am highly alergic to smoke. I mean, if i really get near it my lungs can shut down and its pretty bad.

This moron was standing next to me, turns..and blown smoke in my face....i go into a couging fit. and when i can breath i go "could you not do that again, ever" and he goes "uhhuh" then turns becuase he sees his friend and blows smoke in my face again. I start having attack and couldnt breath and as im bent over looking for my extra inhailer he ashes on my shoe.

i got my breathing back on track and flipped out on him. CMs had a nice time with him after i got one and told them. Yup i know smokings a hard habit to quit. And i know i could have moved, but really, not all smokers are that inconsiderate and he didnt have to be that rude!

Never ever. And I like my drinks when I go out for dinner or to a get together ;) If I don't have a DD or if I can't walk home after a get together, I don't go.

I think drinking and driving is grotesque :sad2:
