For some time now there have been shelters and vets helping outside the
worst hit areas, but Sunday marked the first day for vets to be allowed
by the authorities to enter New Orleans. These first vets in are
specially trained vets working with the ASPCA, and their mission is
multi-fold since they also need to tackle potential zoonotic threats to
human health. For instance, they will be collecting and giving
appropriate rabies vacs to the domestic animals found.
So those rescue workers dealing with animals could possibly SAVE HUMAN LIVES! I'm not asking anyone to give to animal disaster relief if you don't choose to. I'm just trying to point out the benefits of it to those who think animals should be left to rot and ALL rescue efforts and donations should ONLY be centered on humans.
