I've recently learned of this company and was hoping some of you here might offer some help. I'd like to place an order but really don't know much about their various mixes. If you have any favorites would you please tell me what the mix is and what you use it for?

Thanks!

I use the prime rib rub and like it very much. I put it in my crock pot beef stew, pot roast, season steaks and burgers with it. We really like it, but I usually wait for a sale because I'm cheap LOL

I LOVE Penzys. They have a great selection of salt free spices. And their blends don't seem to be loaded down with excess salt.

I've gotten the Barbecue of the Americas blend. I just mix it with plain old ketchup and it works great as a BBQ sauce. I like that I can also make it sweeter or tangier if I want by adding other stuff in. It can also be put on as a rub. (That was too dry for me.)

I have their horseradish powder. The few times I use horseradish, it was nice to have it on hand, rather than having to make an extra trip to the supermarket for it. Same for their curry blend.

I'm thinking of adding their Bouquet Garni blend to my next order.

They have a page of trial packets. So you can try a spice blend without having to get a large batch. The last time I ordered from them they included a couple trial packets of their spices. That's how I got hooked on their Smoked Spanish-Style Paprika to sprinkle on my hummus. It has made such a difference in the flavor!

I have been using them for years and years. Get a lot of my herbs and spices from them.
I really enjoy Forward, Arizona Dreaming, Justice and Sunny Paris. They are my favorite blends.
I take advantage this time of year and buy their gift cards when they are $35 for a $50 card.

We use pretty much all of them. The catalog usually explains what each blend is recommended for, so that's a guideline. If you sign up for their emails, they will send you coupons for free or token-priced small bottles of blends quite regularly. (Note if you are dealing with them by mail-order: their bottles are glass, so shipping can get heavy. Usually cheaper to buy a larger quantity in a plastic bag and use your own jar to store it.)

As for our most-used:
33rd & Galena: really good on pork.
Trinidad: very nice on grilled fish
Justice: good on root veggies or chicken (mostly onion and garlic in this one)
BBQ of the Americas: we like to mix this into beef burger patties
Fajita seasoning: excellent and not overly salty.
Dried shallots: a lot more convenient than hunting down fresh shallots in recipes that call for them.
Frozen pizza seasoning: if like us, you're not above using a frozen pizza for a quick meal, this blend will make it much more flavorful. I also buy their fennel seed for pizza in general, both frozen and homemade, because I love fennel seed on pizza.

Also, a mention of their baking spices: they have I think 4 different flavors of cinnamon depending on what you prefer, and they have
seriously excellent high-fat cocoa for baking. The vanilla is also very good, if you don't already have access to Nielsen-Massey.

I try to find things with stuff I really can't get or don't use much. For those, it's better to go with a Penzys blend. For stuff I use a lot, it's better to just make them up myself.

Been using a Penzey “satellite” company, owned by a Penzey daughter with her husband, called the Spice Shop. It’s in Chicago and has had an online presence for a few decades; same adherence to freshness and overall high standards. They pack their online packages utilizing spices like bay leaf and cinnamon sticks instead of styrofoam peanuts (took me years to actually buy bay leaf, lol). There used to be a Penzey in NYC but it closed down.

I tend to mix my own spices but am madly in love with their “Back of the Yard” butcher’s rub; makes most anything taste extra good and was a stalwart ingredient of my camping days. They recently sent me a freebie called “Great North Maple Garlic”. Haven’t used it yet but it looks and smells promising.

I love their Corned Beef Seasoning. So much better than the packet that comes with the beef.

The man used to call it “crack spice”😂.
I buy the picante/hot and dulce/sweet from a local purveyor that specializes in Spanish groceries but you can get it from a lot of places now-Whole Foods sells it too.

Don’t forget to keep it in yr freezer or fridge; it lasts longer.👍🏾

I like to try things when they're on sale, so I end up with some random stuff. My absolute favorite so far is the Creamy Peppercorn salad dressing mix. Their Italian dressing mix is good too. It's nice to be able to make small amounts of dressings or dips up fresh.

I like their Punjabi style Garam Masala too. I put it on roasted sweet potatoes. I tried buying another kind of Garam Masala when I ran out and didn't like it nearly as much.

Oh, and their Apple Pie spice mix. If on some rare occasion I make pie, I still prefer to measure out my spices but I often throw together a bit of apple or apple cranberry sauce and I love the mix.

I go through a lot of their chili powder. If you like tacos, their Bold Taco mix is really good.

Their spices are actually on par price wise as the grocery stores but much higher quality. If you take advantage of their $50 gift card for $35, they're actually cheaper than the grocery stores.

I just bought their Dutch Process Coco Powder for hot chocolate. We just got back from Munich a few weeks ago and I had the best hot chocolate I've ever had. I'm really hoping the Penzys Coco Powder is just as good because I really don't like hot chocolate from packets here in the US.

Sunny Paris
Galena Street
Northwoods
Green Goddess
Smoked Spanish Paprika

I usually buy single herbs/spices from Sams, but I love the mixes from Penzeys. Also, check to see if you have a local store. It is an experience you don't want to miss. :)

I bought from them for the first time a few weeks ago. I got a pack of 4 salad dressing blends, a set of 4 grill blends. They're meant for gifts so I haven't tried them, but they did send some free mixes that I'll use soon.

I’ve never heard of this website - I’m going to check it out.
Thank you for posting about it 🙂

I love their spices. Their cinnamon is fantastic! I live in CT they have a store in west Hartford. The run $50 GC for $35, from time to time. It’s a great deal. I ordered one the last time they offered it. I might have to do some early Christmas shopping with it!
