The adventures of Tiggerdad (A collection of camping locations, mishaps, reviews, alterations, food, and whatever else I can find)

What bothers me is the Baldwin Beach Express was intended to get folks who just wanted to get straight to the beach avoid all the shops and traffic lights a straight shot. Each year, a new traffic light goes up. Pretty soon it'll be the new hwy 59 and we'll be right back at square one.

Pretty weather here continues to be the story. In conference this morning as todayslineup is actually regarding subjects I'm interested in.

In between I walked out on the deck. View from the Lodge of the Gulf.

There is still repair work ongoing to the pier but getting close

Storms kept us limited last two days there and yesterday morning was a mad run trying to beat a thunderstorm before we left site.

Saturday we did get about 2 hours of sun so a little time on the beach. We had lunch at Dick's Last Resort. The premise is essentially your servers are rude, so you gotta go in with a little restraint. They make label hats for everyone, and while I can't post pics of mine, DW, or oldest DDs as I don't want to be banned, youngest DD did get one you might like.

It was funny and I can now say I've tried it, but food left an enormous amount to be desired.

For supper we had The Original Oyster House which has never failed to satisfy us, but I left my phone in the car so no dinner pics.

This little guy, who was eating bread from me earlier, decided to use bucket as drinking water too though I did offer him a Coke.

So another trip complete and all is well and safely home. During the heavy rains I did find I seem to have a leak somewhere upon my roof edge that I need to figure out

I hate the "leak challenge"....

Yes, this is where I'm leaning. I've threatened to do it for the last 2 years.

Anyone on here used it?
I had a fifth wheel that had a leak in the front closet, under the cap, did all my roof seams and it cleared it up, I also had a leak on around the roof vent, works great, I always carry a roll of it in my tool bag

So this summer and fall we had 5 camping trips booked however in early July DW's mother unexpectedly passed and her dad was having a terrible time with it and actually ended up in hospital several times due to not eating and drinking so we cancelled the trips so we could be closer to home. However, I still had the time off. This year was actually our 25th wedding anniversary and since we didn't travel we decided to do something different.

I agreed to tackle a project that DW had been wanting for several years. We started a multi stage project in 2019. First we put in an above ground pool. In 2020 we built a deck around it (go back to post 183 for that project). It essentially turned out as this:

We intended a bigger project later which was redoing our screened in porch and pouring concrete to build a larger patio.

So I got the concrete poured

Had some friends over for a weekend because I needed the manpower to get the heavy beams built and set in place.

Knocked out the decking and felt all on same weekend.

We went with pine tongue and groove for ceiling, stained to DWs preference.

We are building false beams around those 2x6 boards and putting dimmable clam lights. Work in progress. Will post more as we go.

Looks good, @tiggerdad.

All I can say is this Cousin Eddie (me) is ready to try out the pool, deck, and accoutrements.

Bump up the water heater now. And then we'll just SHOW UP real soon on one Saturday morning.

Save some Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen for me (SPF 8 - I need a good deep tan).

PS - sorry to hear about DW's mom.

Okay, more updates on this backyard project. Okay so we built the false beams, not only covering the 2x6 but made beams run all way to the top as well.

Crows foot for end decoration

Now this part was painful. We decided not to have steps off new patio to the pool deck, and instead busted out old brick for new doorway

Got lights up and running

Covered the roof of old porch with additional stained pine and got new doorway built.

Finished rebuilding the screen framing

Plan on going with dark stain on porch

Got staining done. Have to admit, the pressure treated wood absorbed the stain better than I had thought. DW already had furniture in garage before I even had a roof on this thing so as soon as paint was dry she was decorating.

Now I'm working on outdoor kitchen cabinets, will build an area with sink and storage to be in close proximity to my grill and smoker. Also have to decide on TV location, trying to decide if I want to mount to brick wall or utilize a thin table and secure it to that.

Took few days off and headed up to Chattanooga, TN. Stayed at Racoons Mountain campground. Would recommend if just staying a day or two to your the area. Easy access from the interstate.

Sites 225 for us. Folks here are very pleasant. Friendly cats at front office also. Cave tour on campground as well though we ran out of time before we could do it or the railroad.

All sites about the same size. Gravel with about 10x12 concrete pad. Fire pit with firewood for sale on site.

One of two play areas

Two separate areas for dogs, this one was open, had to keep on leash but there is one fenced in as well.

Weather was not cooperating, rained night before so morning haze over Lookout Mountain.

I'll post pics from Ruby Falls and Rock City shortly.
