Penzys Spice people

There have been two "political" discussions regarding Penzey's on the other forum. The OP is clearly aware of where he needs to post that sort of discussion and isn't like the usual provocateurs that can be on this forum who like to "cloak" things. No need to cloak. There's a place for this now.

Truly, figuring out what to buy from Penzey's is a thing.

I've been following Penzey's for over 20 years--back when I was a big Cooking Light subscriber and active on CL's cooking forums (oh how I miss that place). Penzey's was THE place back then for good cooks. They had very limited storefronts and mailorder wasn't always affordable for me. I was so thrilled when I was on vacation and came across a store. As I said above, I was completely overwhelmed and no cooking forum experts to ask--so I really appreciate this thread and have taken my notes for a mailorder. Never occurred to me to ask it here as there seems to be only a very small community of good cooks here.

I'd still love to hear about anyone's favorite blends if you're interested.

Those of you that know, I enjoy white fish and salmon at home because they're easy for me to make. Are there any blends you'd recommend for either of those?

I just tried the Justice blend last night on some roasted veggies ... it was delicious! I would use that on white fish, but maybe not salmon. I feel like salmon flavor would overpower that seasoning.

When we got married 18 years ago, someone gave us a sampler from them and it was amazing. I like almost all of their blends. The Fox Point is great. And I do like to support them as a company.

This is not a Penzys blend, but sometimes I slather on teriyake sauce onto my salmon, place it in a foil or parchment pouch to keep the moisture in and bake it for about 20 min, depending on how thick the salmon is.

Thanks again everyone! I've started an order for several sampler packs that will include many of the blends mentioned here. I'm pretty new to cooking so I appreciate the help a great deal. Thanks again!

Good luck with your order! 🥰

I have heard so many great things about these products for a while. I use the same boring blends from the grocery store, and I do appreciate they have salt-free blends. Then I get overwhelmed looking at all the options. I'll go back to the suggestions made in this thread. 😁

Edited because bo is not go.

That's why I started the thread to ask. I always get good advice here and the amount of choices was overwhelming to me because I have so very little knowledge about cooking in general. I really appreciate the people who replied to help me out. :)

A few years ago, a nephew gave us a variety of blends as a Christmas present after DH's heart issues. He went into the store and picked up a few of the salt-free options. It was the BEST present!

I miss the CL forums and magazine, too!

Chik fila doesn't have an entire section on their homepage dedicated to hating on the democratic party
It's quite different
Have you read what they say?

I do not see hate???

I actually like and respect most of you guys. Sure, there are a growing number that are there for the racism, but I still believe the majority of you have good hearts that want to help and do the right thing. I know you to be trustworthy, and honest, and funny, and caring, and good souls. The problem isn’t what you are, the problem is what you are now voting to support. You guys have been turned around.

What does any of this mean? Going forward we would still be glad to have you as customers, but we’re done pretending the Republican Party’s embrace of cruelty, racism, Covid lies, climate change denial, and threats to democracy are anything other than the risks they legitimately are. If you need us to pretend you are not creating the hurt you are creating in order for you to continue to be our customer, I’m sad to say you might be happier elsewhere.

If on the other hand you still want the best spices and don’t need us to respect what you now vote for to be our customer, Hooray! We are happy to have you here, but know that we will, on a regular basis, try to wake you up from this dream that has you believing there is anything conservative left at all to what the Republican Party has become. We can and will work without Republicans to solve the problems we face, but it sure would be nice to get back to a time where Republicans were equal defenders of equality, the environment, and democracy. We look forward to that day.

The owners seem thoughful. They are not trying to forbid anyone from buying their products or refusing to sell them. Lot less hate than anyone on the 'other' side seems to take with regards to any company they think is woke.

Penzys is closed today. This is what it says on their website:

"Tuesday, November 5th - Penzeys stores and warehouse are closed to allow our staff and customers the time to vote.

Please vote - and if possible encourage and support those in your life to do the same."

They don't say or endorse WHO to vote for. Just to vote. :thumbsup2

I cleaned up at Penzy's 50% off everything (except saffron and vanilla) yesterday, as there's one three blocks from my house. Replaced some dusty spices, stocked up on some I use all the time. They told me they'd be closed today so everyone could vote. Good for them!
