Our governor, who has Covid, has put us on lockdown....until January 4, 2021. No indoor dining; no gyms; movie theaters; casinos; musical venues; no indoor gatherings of greater than 10 and outdoor no greater than 50. No extra curricular activities at any schools to try and get this under control. I am afraid with Christmas holidays, there will be lots of spread.

Is it true Gov. Wolf was denying a lockdown 2 days ago? Saying it was just a rumor?

If so, I feel badly for the restaurant owners that took his word as truth, and ordered their supplies for the future.

I do see college sports can go on. But no high school sports.

How can school be open if no indoor gatherings of 10 or more people? How can college teams practice/play games if no more than 10 people?

There never seems to be consistency with these lockdowns.

:( Sorry to hear this. Maybe if more people had listened earlier, they could have avoided it. But I am betting you aren't, and won't be the only state to have this happen.

I hope the federal government comes up with help for restaurants and small businesses. Too many are on the verge of going out of business. The headline of the Scranton Times was about this today.

My Mom is having surgery in Philadelphia next week. She is having a lobe of her lung removed. So, my Dad can drive her there and then he has to come home. I had offered to stay with my Dad in a hotel if Mom felt more comfortable having him close, even if he couldn't see her in person, but if we're locked down, it seems like a worse idea now than it was when I offered. :(

We need a national lock down. :confused3 😷

The problem is lockdowns aren't enforceable. Some will circumvent it. What we need(ed) is for everyone to take precautions per the scientific evidence and use common sense - masks, distancing, hand-washing. If we had been doing with a modicum of consistency and a high rate of compliance then we would be much further ahead of this thing.

We do not need a national lock down.
I think we don't want a national lock down. I think we needed a national lockdown 6 months ago. The incoming President is calling for masks for 100 days after he takes office. I think he is looking for the least objectionable, practical step to try and head things off. IMHO I hope it works, otherwise everyone is going to have to check their "wants" and the door and we're going to have to do what we need to do.

Exactly! In fact, our local sheriff and police have already announced don't bother calling them to report covid related violations because they won't be enforcing any covid orders, and I've heard the same from law enforcement in other counties.

National (Federal) mandates are near impossible given the constitutional rights afforded to the states. I get people who think we need a national lock down, but It’s not practically possible.

I’ve had many conversations IRL with people who think that the decisions to leave things up to the states was a choice but it really wasn’t. Even the incoming President can’t actually mandate mask use nationwide. He can only appeal to local state authorities to work together and put mandates in place (or threaten to withhold certain funding, which probably isn’t a great look in an already divided nation).

There’s plenty of criticism on how things have been handled to go around (though, I’m very thankful I don’t have to make the decision on where the line between health risks and economic stability is), but some of the criticisms seemed to be based on a misunderstanding of what falls under Presidential authority.

Same here. But in recent weeks I sense a possible shift by City Councils and Board of Supervisors towards telling their Police Chiefs and Sheriffs that they WILL be enforcing covid restriction.

A national lockdown and stay home order is 100% needed. I don't think any rational person at this point could possibly think otherwise. Having a piecemeal approach leaves open too much room for people to travel.

That being said a national order would be constitutionally unrealistic and unenforceable. We need to rely on people to do the right thing, stay home, and do no non-essential business but even here we have people unwilling to do so.

Hopefully more of these orders are coming because the numbers are out of control and only state-wide mandates that do pass constitutional mister will be available to stop the spread. My state will have one by year end at our current rate.

Exactly! And no one seems to question it.

I consider myself a rational person and I think a national lockdown is a terrible idea.

The only people who are ok with a national lockdown are people who are fortunate enough to be able to work from home or don’t have family or friends that have been destroyed financially from the lockdowns.

My family is one of the fortunate ones that have been able to keep our jobs (so far) but we know many whose lives have been turned upside down and will never recover.

This is not a lock down. 🤦‍♀️ Rules are less restrictive than the spring stay at home order.

How dramatic. 🙄

And as a prior poster stated, if people would have followed eased restrictions all summer and fall we wouldn’t be here.

wow, these are strict. I can tell you, restrictions will not stop people from making bad decisions.

I'm working the employee covid call center for my hospital. i am daily amazed by how many employees are still removing their masks when patients aren't around. today, I had to deal with a practice location of over 40 employees. one of the had a positive covid test today, she ratted the out. They are still gathering for lunches, removing masks when patient's are not present. Several have refused to wear the face shields that are provided and mandatory.

Seriously, how can so many be so flippant about this?

No, some want you to go to work and then donate your money to those who think it’s too dangerous for themselves to go to work.

I too can be very generous with other people’s money.
