PeepsII-The Hot, Sweaty Asian Strikes Back. Feb 2010. 12/2-Part 2 has begun.

Chapter 22-Just a little longer...

Sorry it's taken us so long to get the winner posted. We have both been busy. I promise to have the results to you tomorrow night.

Cast of characters update
So I think I told you that Jeff will not be joining us. He just got a promotion at work and doesn't think that he'll be able to get time off.

I talked to Gene a few weeks ago and he still was in. I was kinda surprised, but happy. HOWEVER, since that time, he's been avoiding eye contact with me at church. I think he wants to back out, but doesn't know how to tell me. I honestly don't care and at this point would probably enjoy having a room to myself....So I'm making my initial deposit next week. I will give him the opportunity to start paying on his portion of the trip. We'll probably know next week where we stand. Once that decision is made then we can start planning our itinerary with a bit more clarity.

Airfare update
Airfares really haven't changed much. I'm looking at 2 options right now.

Option 1: Non stop flight from LAX to MCO. Red eye to MCO. Night flight back to LAX. Probable cost 325.

Option 2: Flight from Orange County Airport (closer) to Atlanta, ATL to MCO. Flight from MCO to Salt Lake City, SLC to Orange County. Price right now on Travelocity is 230.

would you take the non-stop flight or take the 100.00 saving, but have connecting flights?

Lodging Update
As I have written, Wendy and Derek have gotten me 4 nights at the BWV. However, right now they only have the last 2 nights available and I am waitlisted for Sunday/Monday (President's Weekend)

Would you holdout for the waitlist to come through or would you try and get in at SSR, OKW or AKL? I would miss not walking around the BWV, but also wouldn't mind trying out different resorts. What do you think?

Up late too Jordan?
Well... late-ish. I started freaking out about planning so I'm going over stuff, again... then I got DIS in my system. :upsidedow

Don't you just hate that... when someone won't give you a definiative answer and it's just like, COME ON!!! just tell me either way!

I've taken non-stop red eye from Portland and have had connections... most of them in ATL, even for an extra $200, I'd go for non-stop. I wish Alaska still had non-stop and gave me said option. That's my vote!

As for lodging, I think you should try a different resort... AKV since you <3 AK.

How long does the layover lengthen your travel time? If it was only a short layover, I'd do it if I were travelling solo or with another adult.

As for the lodging-I would keep the waitlist, but also book at one of the open resorts, then you know you will surely have a room in case nothing does ever open at BWV. Then if it does open, you have a choice too.

I should, but it's not contagious as the phlegm is white....
.
tmi....tmi.....

?

well, if it were just me traveling I'd pocket the $100 and take connecting flights. If it were me and all my kids I'd pay the extra just to not have that hassle.

Ok, I lied $100 x 6 is alot...I'd make them suffer throught he layovers.

Think of how many drinks at ESPN that 100 could buy, or mickey bars, or dole whip floats, or......princess charms.....

From coast to coast I'd go non-stop. $100 is not enough for me to do lay-overs.....especially since I don't think $325 is a bad price for that flight.

Gene Gene the Dancing Machine! Hope you get that settled soon....how can we plan your vacation when these kids can't commit?

I've seen your name on some of the trip reports I've been reading and decided that I will hop over and join up. Hey, I made it on page 86! So this is the novel I will be reading this weekend.

I agree with mryppns... for $100, it's not worth the layover to me. I've missed WAY too many connecting flights so I'd rather spend the money. :( It could also have something to do with the fact that I fly out of most damn congested city ever! I hate that all 3 major airports share the same airspace. lol

Hello Jordan!
It's good to see you back here. I do hope the cough clears up soon!!

What? The contest is already over? Carp! Can I get a do-over? :rotfl2: I've been too dang busy to keep up. It was fun - what I did see of it.

I'd pay $100 for straight-thru!!! It's the opposite from good ol' Indianapolis. We have to pay more for the lay-over flights. So it's a no-brainer. Which is good for us Rednecks. Not too much thinkin' involved. :thumbsup2

On the lodging thing - what Brook said!
:goodvibes

Hey Jordan - hope you feel better soon!

Tough one on the flight. I like the idea of no layover, but $$ is $$. :teacher: If it were me by myself, I'd probably do the layover. But then again, after the involuntary Atlanta confinement on our honeymoon...maybe a non stop wouldn't be such a bad idea. So my answer to the question of option A or option B is yes. :cool2:

Kudos to Brook on the resort recommendation. I'd say "Make it so number one"

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all who have responded so far. I'll wait for a few more folks to respond before making my decision. I have to wait for airfares to come down anyway so I have about 6-8 weeks to decide what I'm going to do. That 100.00 dollar savings does look appealing, but I love non-stop....OY! I can't decide!!!!!!!!

Lodging is still up in the air.....but I'll have a more definite feel for what's going on next week

Thanks again and keep the votes coming!

:welcome:

If you really want to be adventurous read my last PTR and my 3 part TR too....:thumbsup2

I never have the option of non-stop unless I want to drive 3 1/2 hours to the airport and even then my chances of non-stop at an affordable price is low. I live 5 minutes from the airport here, so I pay a bit more and leave from there. How long of a drive is it to LAX compared to Orange County. If Orange County is significantly shorter, that along with it being cheaper would win out for me.

I am a save $$$$ whatever it takes person.....so this would get my vote.

But how much closer are you to Orange Co than LAX...b/c that could be much less stress right???

I wouldn't want to move again, but with those choices I would say....
AKL #1
SSR #2
OKW #3

What happens if the 'waitlist' doesn't come through??

Hi Jordan, glad you're feeling some better. I'm sorry about the lingering cough though. Coughing can be exhausting!

As far as flights go, I'd take the nonstop if I were you. During winter months especially I think extra layovers are kind of tempting fate. You'll mostly be south, but on the way home Salt Lake could have snow.

Jordan-if you can't get the BWV-go for the AKL-if you love the AK you will absolutely love the AKL if you can swing it...

BTW-I think that my son is an honorary peep-he is 7 and really wants to go to China, followed by Japan-and he wants to learn Chinese...(which I applaud-I'm all about the learning but I'm just curious how he decided this...:confused3)

Anyhow-I know a hundred people have already said this but take care of yourself-the flu is stinky and if you don't watch you could wind up with walking pnemonia- seriously...it happened to me 1 1/2 years ago-so not fun...

Better to suck it up and have the doctor check you then get sick again because your immune system is compromised...:confused3

Ok-no more lecture...

BTW-love the new hair...;)

Hi everyone! Checking in from Jordan's neighborhood - well sort of - Anaheim Hills. We're going to DL today:banana: Jordan, did you get my message? I see that you're still not out of the woods, or maybe on vacation? Get your rest if you need it!

popcorn:: for contest results. On to Vegas tomorrow - I'll check in later this weekend from Boise. Have a great rest of the week!

Hey Jordan! Just popped over to say hello and get a few laughs from your always entertaining TR. Hope you get to back to feeling 100% soon. I'm fighting something too... allergies, which is not uncommon for me this time of year, but it seems to be hitting a little earlier this year.

These are really good airfare prices right now! I can't believe how cheap it is from the CA airports to MCO. For the record, airfare from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to MCO right now is about $238, and that's only an hour flight!

When I'm trying to decide between a direct and a connecting flight, I usually translate the time savings into additional park time. In flying non-stop, how much more time would that give me in the park? If the answer is 3 hours or less, I usually go for the $$ savings. If it's like an additional 5 hours or more, I will go non-stop. There's a little more to it than that, but that's my general thought process. Also, I don't have good luck with connecting flights, so I have to take that into account as well.

On the lodging, since that's a holiday weekend, you may want to try to go with one of the other resorts. Is it possible to go ahead and book another resort, but stay waitlisted for BWV?

I just may do that, but, what kind of time commitment are we talking here?

Jordan does a great job of making the TR navigation very easy giving links at the end of each update. So that way you can miss all the banter and just read the report. I prob wouldn't take you very long and is well worth it :thumbsup2....you'll enjoy!

Hey Jordan!!

Glad you're better, hang in there with the cough... it can last a loooong time.

The A/C will probably help a lot... drink lots of fluids (I'm serious, now, no beer jokes!) :drinking1 and get your rest.

Wow. I sound like Mama Peep talking to her little chick!

As far as the DVC waitlist is concerned, why don't you pick another resort and stay on the waitlist. If you get it, you can always switch.

I also vote for AKL since you love Animal Kingdom so much! :thumbsup2
