We had our fridge for 18 years.
We would have repaired it and kept it but what was wrong with it would have cost as much as a ndw fridge to fix.

It broke in October 2020.
We luckily had a smaller old garage frdge but it wasn't nearly enough space.
We then also utilized a mini fridge in the basement. We kept mainly condiments in that one.

We ordered a fridge in November 2020.

They said turn around was 6-8 weeks.
Ok we could deal with it even though the holidays were gonna not be fun to figure out how to store food.

We called every 2 weeks after that 6 week mark and nothing....
We finally were told it was there in August 2021.
We had given measurements of our space and of the old fridge.
We were told exactly what would and would not fit.
They delivered and IT DID NOT FIT!!!
We were also told by the delivery people they could not believe the store kept telling us it wasn't there because that fridge had been put in the warehouse 3 months prior!

At that point we were so frustrated we got our money back from them and started looking elsewhere knowing that we had very limited options with what would fit but also not be entirely too small.
After a couple months we found one place that had one that was going to be smaller than we wanted but the biggest we could get without being too big.

Of course it wasn't in stock unless we wanted the scratched up floor model.
If we are paying full price we are not getting a damged product.
So finally February 2022 it was delivered.
We don't love it and next time we will go back to a side by side.

Can you imagine for 1yr5mos going to the garage fridge and the basement mini fridge to collect everything you need for dinner?

Oh and we had a cat that tried to run out into the garage every time someone went out there.

I can’t remember when I bought my fridge. I am guessing 10-12 years ago. The handle cracked within a few years and has had is currently duct taped together.

I don’t like hearing that COVID appliances are junk. I had to get a new washer & dryer in 2021, well needed it sooner but had to wait because they were delivering indoors at the time. I literally walked into the appliance store and asked what matching washer/gas dryer they had in stock and bought that model. Because I was having no luck finding a matching pair.

I too prefer white appliances over stainless.

It was earlier that 2019. Maybe 2017.

My old one was purchased when I moved into my house in 2007.

So 8 to 10 years might be pretty good for modern refrigerators.

Bought a new one in 2023 when I bought a house, it did not come with a fridge. The existing fridge was nonfunctional for "a while" and provided a lovely aroma when opened, thankfully it was well noted in the sale that the fridge was not included with the house so it was removed by the sellers.

Mine is an "off brand" called Admiral (made by Maytag I think) manufactured in 2005 and was here when we bought the house. Still fine.

My upright freezer in the basement we purchased in 2007 at our first house.

The garage fridge was given to us by my BIL when it started leaking all over his kitchen floor, and that one is only maybe 5 years old. It's a fancy french door fridge but I would never bring it inside my house because it is expensive hot garbage. It's a great outdoor fridge that sits near a floor drain in case it leaks again.

We had to buy one when we moved into our current house since it didn't come with one and we had been renting a house before. That was over 22 years ago and we are still using the same one. It's an LG. The ice maker no longer works. The line got a hole in it once before and hubby replaced it then years later it got a very small leak, which we didn't know about. Eventually, it leaked enough down the wall and into the ceiling in the basement that the ceiling collapsed. I discovered it when I went down there to work out one day. No telling how long it had been leaking because it also compromised the subfloor in the kitchen, thus causing 75% of the tiles to crack. We simply unhooked the water line and are still using the same fridge. We haven't replaced the floor yet, we need to but the whole picking out new floor is causing hubby and I to put it off. We plan on moving the old fridge down to the basement as a spare when we do. I'm also putting it off because I know a new fridge will not last 20+ years. We are debating about another one with an ice maker, it's hard to find ones without that are big enough to fit in the space. Such a pain because we will have to hire people to move the old one down to the basement and move the stove and dishwasher out into the garage while the floor gets replaced (we don't think the subfloor was damaged because we can see it from the basement where we haven't replaced the ceiling yet). I'm guessing we will get another LG, nickel finish because it doesn't show finger prints as badly as stainless does.

All of the appliances I bought during Covid have already had to be replaced. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, and freezer. I brought in a repair person when the first one went (washing machine) and was told the same thing anything purchased during Covid is not worth fixing.

I had to replace mine last year. It was a Whirlpool and it was 19 years old, so we got our money’s worth out of it. We have a Whirlpool in the basement from 1992 that is still running, and helped save our food when the kitchen fridge died.

I feel like a few years ago there was a poll or a discussion about fridges? Ya’ll don’t want to know what we’ve spent on them. We buy for functionality and aesthetic. Our last purchase was from True.

According to the Whirlpool website that compressor is under warranty for five years. So your repair should be free.

Never HAD to replace a refrigerator. Our first refrigerator was a Montgomery Ward made by Whirlpool and when it got to be 27 years old the ice maker no longer worked, and it was starting to made funny noises so we elected to replace it because we had the money available.
I am afraid I am going to jinx it, but our current refrigerator is a Kenmore made by LG and it is 15 years old. The ice maker was replaced twice under warranty by Sears and the water valve failed, damaging the floor. That valve was also replaced under warranty, we did not replace the damaged floor which is all under the fridge.

Just two of us now, not sure what we will do in the future other than we will NEVER EVER has a fridge again with an ice maker and water in the door.

We bought our fridge when we moved into our current house in 2012. Seems to work ok, but the ice maker froze up so often that we just stopped using and bought some old school ice trays.
