Chapter 57. Another Dining Conundrum

Hello and good evening.

It's only 10:30pm PST and I'm beat already. I'm used to staying up late, but since my work schedule has changed, I'm in bed no later than 11:30pm. I'm up at 5:30am to be at work by 6:30am.

So I have a new Dining issue. I can almost guess what you are going to say--you all being who you are. Okay here's the dealio:

If you haven't read some of the banter, in addition to the Cast of Characters, there are several DISers that will be in attendance during our visit to WDW. Some of us have met up before in Feb 08. We are looking to spending time together this time too.

They are as follows:

EnglishRose47, she's on the left:

Blueyed Girl, she's on the right:

Winkers and her DH, I stole this from her PTR:

Here's the flat version I took with me in 08

ScottNY. I don't have a pic.

Most of us have 4-5 days that overlap. We are in the process of setting at least one TS meal together. Winkers, Rosie and I are already eating at Kouzzina. So that makes 2 TS meals with DISers:thumbsup2:woohoo:

Here's the thing. I am on the QSDP plan. At the time I booked, I thought I'd only be eating 2 TS with my cousins and I didn't mind paying OOP for 2 meals. I could make up the 2 CS meals by getting up early and having breakfast :rolleyes1--in theory anyway.

However now I have 4 TS scheduled. If you include my dinner at Boma which was originally on the DxDP, but is now not. Boma is OOP as well (AKA punkinDP). That's 5 TS OOP. IF I stayed with the QSDP, I would have to make up 5 CS meals somehow that are already paid for. That would mean 5 breakfasts (translation: getting up early). Plus I'd be paying probably 125-175 OOP for those TS meals.

How many of you know where this is going? Did I have you at hello? I was thinking "Why not change to the regular DDP?" I called Donna the TA and to upgrade to the regular DDP for the Pop portion of my trip--90 dollars. What do you think? 90 dollars vs 125-175 dollars? Should I go for it?

IF I do it, I have 4 TS meals to fill So back to polling the readers for their opinions. I can join Wendy and gang for some meals, but that would require cancelling and trying to rebook the same restaurants. The only 2 I am missing are Chef Mickeys (no thank you) and Kona which I actually want to try......So if I ate at Kona with them, that's 6 ADRs, that leaves me with 3 or 1 regular TS and maybe 1 signature both solo in all likelihood.

Here are my top 5:

Le Cellier
Chefs de France
Tutto Italia
Raglan Road
CA Grill

Maybe move one of the ADR from solo portion to Pop portion to give me more flexibility during my solo time.....

Here are the ADRs as they stand or may stand:

Kouzzina
Prime Time Cafe
Teppan Edo
Tony's??
Kona??
Boma
Jiko
Sanaa
Brown Derby
Flying Fish

Thoughts? Opinions? What would you do? Switch to DDP? Where would you eat?

So, if you're asking (which I'm not sure you really are... :confused3) which one to toss, get rid of Tutto.

You can get great Italian anywhere.

sorry I"m lost... as usual. Maybe it's the before dinner wine making me fuzzy.

Hmmmm...this is a conundrum!!!! But what a puzzle to have to solve....more places to Dine...well I don't know if I can tell you which one to toss...but I can tell you that if you are looking for an amazing Signature...you will not beat Cali Grill!! You will LOVE it Jordan!!!! I had the most amazing meal there in October and I'm literally salvating at the mouth to get back!!!

I've never done the dining plan before. Are they sticklers about the dates? I mean, if you get credits for your Pop Century portion, can you use them later in the trip or do you have to use them specifically on those dates?

And to add to your Holy Grail quotes....."We can't risk another frontal assault. That rabbit's dynamite!"

Hmmmm.....I've had great meals at Le Cellier and Les Chefs. Though I don't think you would quite enjoy the French waiters like I do at Les Chefs. :rolleyes1

Can I further confuse you and throw out another suggestion? Have you been to Rose & Crown before? That is another EXCELLENT meal. I've loved it both times I've been. I think you'd get a kick out of the atmosphere. The bar can provide endless entertainment. :rotfl2:

i think my head is gonna explode :scared: (and not from the snot that it's currently filled with.)

okay, so basically what you're saying is that you now have 4 TS credits to work with, right? and you want our opinions of what you should do with them, right?

if so, definitely join wendy & company for kona. it's always one of our favorite meals. you will love it. and getting a ressie there isn't hard because everyone and their mother goes for ohana instead. so i bet you could change the reservation to add you with no problem.

so that leaves you with 3 more TS credits. i'd go for cali grill. i've never eaten there but it's on our list for next time. we love narcoosee's but we're giving it up to try something new and i hear nothing but great things about cali.

with the 1 credit you have left i'd go for either tutto italia or chefs de france. i've done le cellier. wasn't that impressed. it was good but my hubby makes a better steak, for realz. my sister ate at raglan road last year. she said the atmosphere was cool but the food was so-so. if you want to go here, just go to the bar and get an adult beverage instead of wasting a TS credit. i've heard very good things about tutto and i loved chefs when we ate there last year. and plus how can you forget the added bonus of seeing a rat on your dinner plate???? :lmao:

my understanding of this is that you have to use your dining credits by midnight on your checkout date. then they expire from the room key that you're using.

A suggestion for a restaurant I did not see listed is The Wave. I ate there in October and loved it. You didn't even have to cut the filet and they have a very large selection of "interesting" drinks. :thumbsup2 I made a reservation for my first night in May too in anticipation of another great meal. ::yes::

I gave up CA Grill when I gave up the DxDP for the solo portion of my trip. It's the only Signature Dining Meal that I didn't schedule for my trip that I want to do. I have ADRs for Jiko, Brown Derby and Flying Fish....

I think Punkin answers the question, but you have to use them by midnight of your checkout date. Even though I have another reservation at Kidani, I have to use all the credits for the Pop portion by midnight. HOWEVER, I checkout of Pop on Sunday and Check in at Kidani on Sunday. So even though I'm at Kidani on Sunday afternoon/evening, I can still use my Pop credits at Boma. Make sense? or did i just not explain it well.

That rabbit............:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I had to go back and read my post...it didn't make total sense. I hope i fixed it. I fell asleep a few times writing it last night.

I've had a woman server at Les Chefs before....not quite the same as she wasn't wearing a french maid outfit..... I know I'm a....:dog::dog::dog2::dog2:pug:pug::dogdance::dogdance:

I have thought about it. I'll have to take a look at the menu again....

Yeah...Bars + Me = Peas....Pod.

Kona check
CA Grill check check
Chefs or Tutto check check...

Thanks for the advice. It's always good.

Tracy

I forgot to add that one. I do want to try it as well....thanks for the reminder.:thumbsup2

skip the dinning plan and eat at comsic rays all together for every meal.
:thumbsup2

Okay. I have to commit it to memory.
maybe i can set up a web came and you can watch us eat live.
:lmao:

Then I think you should celebrate with a PTR...;)

i am thinking about it, i will let you know for sure when i do it, so you can be the first to post...

i have some fun things planned for it.

hav eyou seen step brothers?

where they make there beds into bunk beds?

"my preTR will have so much room for activities"

as soon as i can come up with a clever title i will start it, i have been racking my brain for the last few days and nothing is coming out at me.

i got it jordan, can i use your thread for people to make suggestions for my title?

people can look back at my past TR's and get a fell for my family or the ones that know us, might just have a good title on the tip of there tongue.

if this sounds good to you, i will give you some of the details of the trip, and you can make a chapter 59? i think you are up to now, and call it out to help a Diser.

Sure I'll be your pimp!

Well, I think it's obvious that you should add the DDP. 90 vs. almost 200....YIKES! Yeah, go with the 90.

As far as the restaurants, I like all that you have listed. I have no idea which one I'd scratch off the list. My brain is still trying to figure out where we should all eat for our "meet dinner". I *think* coral reef has the most votes *IF* I'm reading everyone's reply's right. :confused3 I'm still confused.

Can i join :flower3:
I have tried twice now to do a trip report, I never finish :sad2: but I do love reading others ;)

yeah, but there were a couple more reply's after that and it looked like it was leaning back to coral reef. :confused3

Anyway, Rosie threw out the idea of The Wave. Head over to our thread and see what I found out! You may have to vote again. :lmao:
