Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a pair of pearl stud earrings for a 20 year old, as a token gift of thanks.

What size pearl would you suggest?

Where can I get a great price for a AAA grade with minimal flaws?

Would you suggest sterling silver post, or do you think I should shell out for 14K?

Is there a site on line I can buy from that you would highly recommend?

By token, I'm assuming you don't want to spend too much. Right now, overstock.com has a bing.com cashback of 12%, plus this weekend overstock has a 10% coupon.

As far as size, I bought my daugher a pearl necklace for her wedding, and I think those were the 7-7.5mm. You don't want them to be too big for a girl that age (JMHO :goodvibes).

BTW, I bought my daughter's necklace while my husband and I were touring Israel last March. After I got back, overstock had an incredible deal on a very high quality 8-8.5 pearl necklace. I couldn't believe the price and got one for me to wear for her wedding too. It was/is absolutely gorgeous (high quality). Be sure to check out their reviews for each item.

Thanks so much for responding.

I'm a little confused. I not getting the same discounts as you. I will get only 10% back from bing.com and don't see a 10% off coupon from overstock. :confused3

I'm just not seeing it, but that doesn't mean it's not there. :rotfl:

When I go to overstock.com, it has the banner already there (which is unusual because you normally have to go through the bing link). There's a blue banner across the top that says "Bing cashback is activated. Shop now to earn a 12% cashback rebate.

I actually read the email in my box ;) and found that you have to go through the link (which would mean you would have to pick one or the other (bing or the % off). Sorry about that! :rolleyes1

ETA: Go to bing.com and search for sheets. It should show you Overstock cashback. When you click on it, it should say 12% back. :)

Thank you!!! I just love this Board. :goodvibes

I'm afraid that I can't be of help for the size of pearl, but may I suggest sterling silver posts?

I have strong alergies to gold (only at my ears), so sterling silver or surgical steel is less expensive as gold, and fewer people have alergic reactions to them. JMHO.

smartbargains is another great jewlery website. similar to overstock but i find it easier to shop and they have more high quality/designer items. i have used both sites and got great jewlery from both. for coupon codes enter an email to be on a newsletter, also check out couponmountain.com

What does the recipient do for a living? Does she spend a lot of time on the phone? Because I try to wear lever back earrings - even my pearls studs - so the posts don't poke me when I'm on a phone. Like this:

or this:

Have fun shopping!

Funny you should mention say that. I'm allergic to sterling silver, go figure. :confused3

Thanks for the suggestion, whenever I see her she is wearing posts, so I guess it's not a problem.

I got the idea about the pearl studs from her mother. She said her daughter was looking for a pair to wear everyday. She is 20 years old.

I seem to have found really good pricing at overstock.com, but I am so concerned about the size.

I need to figure out if I should purchase 7 - 8mm or 5 - 6mm size. Will the 5 - 6mm be too small, or will the 7 - 8mm be to big????

Help!!!

Black pearls are cool get a single black pearl on a fine gold chain necklace and some ear ringgs to match.

Bump. Anyone?

I'm 23 and my parents bought me 6.5-7mm pink pearl earrings and I really like them. They're the perfect size and what everyone my age tends to wear. As long as you don't go under 6 you'll be fine. The size difference is pretty small. You could probably base your choice off of how tiny she is. I'm sure whatever you get her she'll like!

I agree. I did a lot of research before I bought my daughter's (wondering the same thing about size). I can promise you that anything under 6 is going to be too small (5 would be more like the size you would buy for a child). :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for your help. Much appreciated.

I went with a White Freshwater pearl studs 7 - 7.5mm. She is tall, so I figured this size would be good. Great price and reviews at overstock $37.99 plus shipping.

I had a 10% coupon in my email making the grand total $37.14, shipping included. I could not get this through Bing.com. I was in too much of a rush to figure it out. I'm happy with the price and needed to order right away.
