Peanut Butter

I cannot survive without peanut butter.

It, bread, lobster, and Entenmanns Crumb Cake are my favorite foods.

I guess this is the one time having a peanut allergy in the family comes in handy. Of course, I already have to pay $5.89 a jar for Sunbutter :sad2:. PLEASE don't tell me that there is also a shortage of sunflower seeds !! --Katie

The black oil sunflower crop (that we use for bird feeding) was really poor this year...the price is alot higher than last year-right now it is about triple the price we paid last year:eek:

Hi! I had to pick up some stuff at Walmart today and did pick up a large jar of each: plain and crunchy peanut butter and it was regular price!:confused3 So, am wondering if it will really go up in price and if I should buy more? We do go through a large jar about once every 3-4 weeks! Don't want to have to store more unless really necessary!:scared1:

Chocolate?!!! For real?

How much chocolate should one buy to stock up? And how do you keep from eating every bit of it?

see a bad new to me,my kids like the peanut butter cheese crackers very much!

Glad I saw this thread. My kids don't eat that much peanut butter, BUT, lets not forget that the holidays are approaching and I do use a ton of the stuff for baking. Seems I have at least 8 different things that my kids like that call for peanut butter. Off to the store I go.

Thanks for the heads up, we eat a lot of PB. We aren't big meat eaters and I'd rather have a PB sandwich over a ham one any day.

The peanut crop is ruined from the drought and the pumkins are rotten from the flooding. :confused3 We can't win.

I bought a case of each last month and grew some of my own pumpkins too. There has been a pumkin shortage for a couple of years now. I'm set for the year. But this issue about the chocolate is new to me....off to google.

TRIPPLED :scared1:??!! I think I draw the line at $18 for a jar of sunbutter!!! My DS will have to do without if that happens!!! --Katie

Yes - for real.. As I said though, this is kind of happening at a good time of year if you like any of the fun-size candy bars; M&M's; Hershey's bars; Hershey's Kisses; or anything like that.. Typically you pay more for the smaller fun-size bars but because Halloween is coming there will be all sorts of sales..

You can keep them frozen for a long, long time.. Just hide them behind the vegetables and meat (so you don't see them every time you open the freezer door - LOL) - or if you have a chest freezer, put them in the bottom..

Also - this price hike will hit chocolate syrups and hot chocolate too - so again, stock up while you can.. If you don't open the syrups you can store them for a long time in your cupboards..

Boxes of hot chocolate I would put some in the cupboards/pantry; some in a chest freezer (just tie the boxes up in a bag); or in a tightly closed tote in a cool, dry place..:goodvibes

Good ideas C.Ann. :) I did buy a container of chocolate syrup yesterday and told DS to use it to make chocolate milk from now on. I plan to buy more.

I will also buy Tollhouse chocolate chips and some fudge and brownie mixes very soon. I'm not clear on when chocolate will spike in price so it's probably better to assume the worst.

TRU has their bagged Halloween candy on sale in their ad today. $1.99 for their reg. priced 3.99 bags. Remember to take your coupons with you when you go. I have some $1 or $1.50 off 3 bags that were in the Sunday paper recently.

I had stocked up on peanut butter lately and have at least 6 jars. I would like to get more because we use a lot and can use it by the expiration date. I got it every time it was .99 at Hy-vee and didn't realize I was getting such a stockpile of it. I even had a coupon to go along with the sale of Planters peanut butter. Wish I had gotten more.
