Peanut Butter

Yes I heard Jif is going up 40% by November.

Needless to say I went yesterday and grabbed a two pack of their largest jars for $10. :thumbsup2

my kids like the peanut butter cheese crackers. So I am going to stock up on those.Chickfila will raise prices I'm sure too.Candy bars like snickers.

I saw this as well. I eat natural PB and PB2 which costs more to begin with, so it sounds like I'll be forking out a heck of a lot more since it's already pricier. The commissary has Smuckers natural on sale all month for $1.59, so looks like I'll be buying 3-4 jars a week through the end of the month.

Shoot! I just went to Costco today and thought about buying but figured we had enough for a while.

If I had read this thread first......

My dad grows peanuts for himself. This year he babied them along until mid-August. He pulled up a plant to see how they were looking, and there was NOTHING there. All he had been doing was keeping the green plant aboveground pretty and green, but the heat and drought kept them from being able to produce.

I read articles about it all day, time to stock up on PB and Nutella for the next shopping trip.:goodvibes

How well does peanut butter keep before the jar is opened? I'd hate to stock up only to have it go bad before we use it all? Should it be refrigerated? We go thru about a jar per month...maybe not a huge amount, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it.

uh-oh, i hadn't heard about this. DD14 eats PB&J like crazy (taking it to school for lunch FOUR out of five days this week!), so i guess i'd better be stocking up!

I guess you'd go by the "use by" date.:confused3 I just checked the jar that I have right now and it's good thru 6/2012. I usually try to pick the product which has the most future "use by" date. I guess next grocery trip I'll be giving the dates a serious look and buying a few extras jars of PB.

I hadn't even thought of that. I guess we will stock up as well. Maybe they can make a tv show out of it. ;)

It did occur to me--don't forget about your holiday baking if you use PB in your recipes! I'm not quite sure what we are making, yet--but I'd rather not pay more than necessary for the ingredients. :)

Chick fil a has been transitioning away from peanut oil anyway and Nutella is made from hazelnuts, not peanuts. (don't know if those are grown in similar climates or areas?)
