PCR Test requirement return to Canada question??

I want the test eliminated. Rapid or PCR, still means you cannot fly home if positive.
Exactly. If they don't eliminate it entirely then it's just moving around deck chairs. Yes, the PCR costs more, but for us it's not really the cost (although the cost is a pain) as much as it is the stress that it puts on the trip. You still have to book a test and waste part of your vacay time getting it done (then stressing over the results). We bought the Switch RT LAMP tests through Air Canada to try in March, as our last experience at WDW with testing was a debacle. The original intent of keeping the virus out of Canada is long behind us. Here in Ontario there will be zero restrictions etc. by then. No passports required, no tests, and so on. So why are we having to test to fly home? Doesn't make sense anymore to me.

I will be watching to see if we can drive home and quarantine if positive without a threat of a fine. fingers crossed!

I highly doubt that you will be able to use an over-the-counter rapid test. It will still need to be supervised by a health official of some sort. So it is still a logistics thing that has to be sorted completed. And if the test is inconclusive or a false positive, you will still need to rush around to have another test performed etc etc etc. Not any easier with just a silly rapid test either
The switch health tests are video conferenced and results emailed to you.

Have you done the Switch test? We bought them to try in March. Do you just call for a video conference when you're ready or do you have to book it ahead of time? Thanks :)

We have them also for March. You simply call in. Wait times are said to be no more than 5 minutes.

I have the rt lamp ones for our upcoming trip :-) (we leave tomorrow :cool1:) and will be using them as we come just before March 1. I agree that the switch health tests are easier than trying to secure an appointment, drive around etc etc etc ::yes::

I guess what I should have said, it still doesn't eliminate a supervised test before going home. Why not follow what other countries are doing where testing is done at home and self monitoring for symptoms then isolate if symptoms appear.

If this CBC story just now is right, we'll still need to get a test, antigen vs PCR. So we can still use these RT Lamp kits. I wish they'd drop testing altogether.

CBC just now is saying that an antigen test will be required, instead of a PCR. I'm still clinging to a smidgeon of hope that they're wrong when the actual announcement is made, but it's not looking good.

I listened to the announcement. Testing still required. Antigen within 24 hours, or molecular within 72 hours.

I'm thinking of trying the proofofentry tests. They are supervised. The reviews on trustpilot.com are mostly positive, with shipping being the #1 complaint (using Canada Post instead of Fedex).

From what I can tell, the other site you linked only offers at-home testing, or testing for a cost ($99+) at a drive-thru site.

The Switch Health isn't great for us because there are 5 of us and I don't really want to pay for 6 tests.
Acculab offers tests for $39 each, which is my other option.

You can get a free antigen test through beeperMD or at the Maingate testing location. Unfortunately Curative and Walgreens are not doing them. You can also just purchase the Switch antigen tests via AC and it is only $80 for 2 tests. You can also check MCO but I'm not sure the cost, if there is one, and right now they are only booking up until Feb 28th.

Regarding the switch tests, I'm wondering if anyone here can help me. I ordered 2 kits for my family of four, and I set up an account for myself and my 2 kids. I didn't see anywhere on that account to add my husband. Does he have to create his own? And are we able to all test at the same time?

I'm hoping to land in Buffalo and then drive to walgreens or cvs before crossing We return in May so hopefully that won't be necessary at that point

It’s Antigen (day before/same day) OR molecular (72 hours)

So current options can still be used. Just adds the cheaper option. (In the case of Orlando, you can get Free regardless)

if you do Antigen, you would just need a plan in place to get a molecular if you test positive. In Orlando, we were able to get a same day PCR Test through Curative for free. (Results took ~36 hours) Travelling companion originally went to the Disney Maingate site - they did the Antigen test, but could not do PCR due to a snowstorm in Chicago 🤦‍♀️So, I happened to check Curative and they had a spot open before they closed for the day

I believe you add your husband as a dependent
