Paying Off Package with Disney Visa

I have seen this question asked alot today because some CMs are saying you have to pay the package off with your Disney Visa and others are saying you don't. While I do not know 100% sure which is accurate (and the CM I booked with today did not say that), there must be some element of truth in the necessity of paying it off with your Disney Visa because Mary Waring of Mousesavers states that on her website . . . and she is someone I totally trust.

I've heard this a few times today and frankly, it seems like a strange requirement, not to mention difficult to enforce. What if people have a low credit limit, or a high balance? Would they really make you cancel your vacation? There are a lot of people out there who like to pay things off with cash--would they really NOT take their money? And what if your card is lost or stolen, or is cancelled for some other reason?

I understand the deposit going on the card, since it's a "perk" to be able to book a few days ahead of the general public, but once the offer goes public, I'm betting you'll be able to pay it off any way you'd like. I suppose time will tell. . . .

Nothing against Mary.. she's normally right about these things.. But I think that there is something confused in the mix.

Basically I think if you want to pay for your entire vacation before Thursday thsi week.. you MUST use the Disney Visa.

After Thursday, I can't see where it would matter what method of payment you use.

But.. as I said - I could be totally wrong about that. Like thunderbird1, I just cannot fathom how on earth they would ever enforce this.

I don't think enforcing it would be that hard. They could just stop you from paying for anything to do with the package with any other credit card if they want to. And cancel the package if you don't pay it off.

I've had my issues with Dis visa and that was a major reason I debated booking this package using the thing. . .but it was too good not to. I plan to pay it off with the dis visa card just to be safe even though my booking CM said that I didn't have to. Just my 2 cents. . .believe me I've dealt with Chase a lot and this is the first thing the card has done FOR us and not TO us *LOL*

IF you have to pay the full balance on the Disney VISA.. that would be a change from last years free dining promo.

Thanks Knox! This is my first time doing a package, with 44 family trips to WDW under my belt and I'm a nervous wreck, I just don't want them to cancel us for any reason so I guess I'm not willing to risk it. We'll have the trip paid off before we go anyway, so it doesn't matter in our case about using this card. . .people should remember too that if they have the dis visa they likely also have 6 months zero interest (we do) on disney vacation packages, they should call to double check but it might be worth it to use it anyway to get that benefit.

It would be great if it wasn't mandatory though I hope someone can find out for absolutely certain!

I definitely do think that it would be hard to enforce and thunderbird1 brought up some great examples of why. Requiring A payment so that you can get a head start on bookings is one thing....requiring it as the ONLY payment is quite another. Something tells me they're not going to refuse money in their hands just because the rest of the balance is not paid off with the Disney Visa.

I had my reservation booked before today through Dreams Unlimited. I paid my $200 deposit with another card and Sue Ellen transfered my reservation to the free dining today and paid a new deposit using my Disney card and keep the old deposit on as a payment. So, no, I don't think you have to pay the balance with the Disney CC. JMO, though

I had already booked my package last fall, made the $200 deposit with my Disney Visa and have paid $2,500 with my debit card....the CM checked and transferred me to a customer service person who transfered it over to a free dining package and she told me that i didn't need to pay anything but the initial $200 with the Disney Visa which I had.

I think maybe we were misinterpreting the mousesavers statement that you must "purchase" the package with your Disney VISA to mean that you had to pay off the entire thing with it, when it really meant just the deposit. Glad to hear from others who are confirming my suspicions.

As the OP, I never meant to imply that I agreed you had to pay-off the package with your Disney Visa. In fact, everyone had great comments to suggest otherwise. BUT, I did see that statement on Ms. Warings' website and could see why several people were told this by the CMs. I just checked Mary's site again and that comment has been removed. Good enough for me.

No worries--I understood what you meant. I didn't realize the statement I saw on mousesavers was different from the statement you saw. Thanks for raising the issue--it was on my mind, too. Ultimately, Chase gets our money anyway, but we'd rather put it towards our Southwest Airlines card, to get more free tickets (for the Disney trip, of course).

I just read the 'terms' on my reservation on the disneyworld website that says that "rates are subject to change until the package is paid in full," is that true??!!! I'm panicking and on hold and scared. Has any one ever had their package rate go up after booking and paying a deposit???

Also, I noticed on a big disney travel agency website that they state that Dis visa promotions in general have to be paid in full on the disney card. i wish disney would put something on the website and spell it out!!!

It doesn't make sense to me that they would require the balance paid off on the disney visa. If they wanted 100% of the ressie on the visa, wouldn't they simply make it "pmt in full" instead of "deposit only"? I think this is just one way to hope people are scared into putting more on their credit cards for Visa's sake.

It just doesn't seem logical to require (and be able to enforce) that the entire package be paid with the Disney Visa.
To test, I just went to my reservation online and it gave me the option of paying with a credit card or Disney Reward dollars. I went ahead and applied some Disney dollars and it accepted the payment fine.

I think you're getting worked up over nothing. Disney doesn't change your rates while you're paying it off. Take a deep breath. Repeat.
