Paying for daily housekeeping?

We are not DVC owners but are renting points to stay at VWL. We wish to pay the fee for daily housekeeping. Here is my question for you DVC-ers. If one pays for the housekeeping is it still standard to tip on top of the daily housekeeping charge? We will be in a 2 bedroom and inlaws in a studio. Oh, and one more question on the "towel and trash" day...do they make the beds too?

Thanks.

They do not normally make the beds on trash and towel day. They replace the towels, any soap/toiletry items as necessary, removed the trash, and replentish the you should get a fresh coffee packet.

Most members do not opt to get extra cleaning days, it is nice not having to "be out of the room" to allow the Mousekeepers to do their work, and it is nice knowing that no one should be in your room when you aren't there. :)

The price list for services, and what is included, asposted on the DVC Member site is below:

Trash & Towel Service
For stays of seven or less nights, Trash & Towel Service is provided on day four, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.

With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
Provide fresh bathroom linens.
Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap.
Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners.
Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwashing detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed in One-, Two- and Three-Bedroom Vacation Homes.

Full Cleaning Service
For stays of eight or more nights, Full Cleaning Service is provided on day four and Trash & Towel Service is provided on day eight. After that, the cycle begins again on day 12, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.

With Full Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

Change the bed linens.
Vacuum and dust the Vacation Home.
Clean the bathroom(s).
Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes.

Pay As You Play
With Pay As You Play service, you'll be provided with the following amenities free of charge at the start of your stay. After that, you may purchase more for the following fees:

Yes, it's still appropriate to tip. They're not going to get any extra pay for the extra cleaning.

Like Chuck said, most members don't even bother with extra cleaning. It's nice not to come back from the parks around lunchtime and find the housekeepers have just started cleaning your room. Those uninterrupted afternoon naps are just so nice.

Thanks for the info. Chuck, I appreciate you posting the info on the different cleaning services- very helpful.

I've been a member over 8 years and never paid for extra housekeeping. It's never been an issue. With a 2 bedroom and studio, you would be paying $90 per day to have both cleaned!

I agree with the other posts, I would never pay extra for housekeeping services. I don't have daily service at home, so I don't see any reason to pay extra!

I did want to share my past experiences, which is if I ever needed extra towels or trash pickup, I've just called and they've done it at no charge. We always stay during Christmas, and there's a huge pile of garbage to go out. They come and pick it up with a smile...

Even paying $90/day for housekeeping, the savings of renting points is a HUGE savings over what we paid last year renting a 2 bedroom VWL through Disney directly. Not sure why anyone is trying to talk me out of housekeeping. I know I want it and am willing to pay for it. I want a full resort experience when I go on vacation, including daily housekeeping.

I've never paid for it either, but if I could afford daily housekeeping at home, I'd be all over it!!! :lmao:

JessLCH, I hope you have a wonderful trip, and I'm sure mousekeeping will be great! I'm sure a tip would be greatly appreciated by the staff, but you could always ask whoever you schedule mousekeeping through if the service fee includes gratuity. I'm assuming it doesn't, but I would still check just to make sure.

Again, have a wonderful trip! :goodvibes

All of this info on the various cleaning options/services is very helpful. We are in the process of trying to rent at DVC and the lack of daily housekeeping is a bit of a concern to me. We own a non-DVC timeshare that does include full daily housekeeping and I have to say that I absolutely love it and it does really add to the whole 'vacation' feel. The occasional inconvenience of having someone in our room while we are there far outweighs the benefit. And if it is truly a bad time for housekeeping to be there (i.e., the baby is napping), we can just ask them to come back at a more convenient time. I would also seriously paying for housekeeping services, if not daily, maybe every couple of days.

If you want it, by all means go ahead. We were just giving you experiences of members who have stayed at DVC resorts regularly on points.

If it is something you know you want, even at those prices, then you should absolutely request it.

We are only giving you a different perspective, as the lack of daily housekeeping, was certainly an alien concept to most members (and many felt sure they wanted it) until they actually experienced the "freedom" of not having to schedule time away from their rooms. While most DVCers certainly enjoy the parks while at WDW, most also enjoy a more relaxed vacation style...taking breaks in mid day or late afternoon, and relaxing at their resort...and not working aound a housekeepers schedule. :)

I travel a tremendous amount on biz... usually to very nice hotels. I almost always keep the DND sign up for the duration of my trip. I don't particularly want people poking around in my room, turning down the bed etc.

We were at SSR on a cash reservation recently (it was a biz trip)... and I declined mousekeeping on most days.

/Jim
