Paying cash vs. points????

I guess there's no such thing as a stupid question, so here goes....when we joined DVC we had no idea you could also book using cash instead of points. Is there an advantage to booking through MS rather than CRO other than tying your reservations together? Is there some kind of discount or such? Just when I think I have it all figured out, I learn something new. Aren't these boards wonderful!!! Thanks for any insights.

The cash rental through MS is usually 25% off rack rate WHEN it's available. You get no housekeeping and you can link so you don't have to move rooms. Something you can't guarantee through CRO when you have a points room. The discount and availability have been less and less over the years.
