Pay Yourself Back with Disney Visa vs. using a Rewards Card

My statement period ends today. Here is a screenshot of my rewards balance. I will report back in a day or two with a screenshot to see what happens with that penny.

I got my penny. LOL

Just to recap: I had $0.50 left on my DVC dues after paying with gift cards. I used my Chase Disney CC to pay the $0.50. I then used PYB to pay my $0.50 balance early. I earned $0.01 in rewards.

@eticketplease and @BunsenH, thank you for this thread! I never knew this was an option!
You are welcome. I have posted about this several times over the years but all the credit goes to @BunsenH with throwing this comparison question in it's own thread so that hopefully it will be easier for others to find out about the two different redemption offers for the Disney Dollars earned from the Disney Visa card.

That's great! I am very surprised that it works this way. But really in the end you'd have to significant rewards for this "bonus" to really amount to much. But every penny helps.

I think the key takeaways are:

1. Yes, even if you do PYB to wipe off a purchase you still earn the rewards dollars on that initial qualifying purchase. It @trenty was booking a cruise or buying a new contract for her example then obviously she would have earned more rewards dollars but since was just paying $0.50 for her DVC dues she only earned 1 cent in rewards dollars.
2. You can apply any amount with PYB. Your Disney Dollars no longer have to remain in a non interest bearing account waiting to hit the $10 or $20 amount for a transfer or new redemption card!! This is big news for people like me who uses other reward cards throughout the year as it would take years normally for me to get to that $10 mark.

Me too. I have had that $5 dollars and change in my rewards for a long while. By the time I have to pay 2027 dues, I probably won't accumulate much more. I hardly use this card as there are other, better rewards cards out there, as we all know.

Obviously if she had charged more she would have earned more, not debating that. And as you point out if you are using a card with better rewards you won't have much of rewards balance on your Disney card. So you buy a couple churros for $13 and then use PYB to pay for it. Your rewards are still only $0.13. So not much of a gain vs just using a reward gift card. The biggest benefit as I see it, is just not having to worry about obtaining the rewards card.

Hey for those of us that have the Premier that is $0.26!!

Not only about obtaining the card but possibly losing the card along with forgetting to bring the card although they could issue you one at Disney Springs but still a hassle.
