Paula's Wish Journal.......

Uh-oh - Mike knows where I live - hahaha.....I have both Dr Phil books - Ultimate weight loss and weight solution food guide - rereading them slowly - they make good sense and I am enjoying them - working on becoming more disciplined.

Today ws pretty good - lunch was the rest of my pasta/tuna/egg salad - had crackers with it - done with them - not buying any more.

dinner - not great - ok I guess - onion bagel - 2 slices of turkey and fresh green beans....little bit of butter - gotta cut that down.

yikes- just realized no water yet today.....1 iced coffee.

Going to get a big glass of ice water.

Did dorm shopping with my DD today - got some walking in that way.

Bad day today.....got to sleep in - but ended p workong for 2 hrs so had a 1/2 iced coffee and skipped breakfast - then had to take DD to meet her BF - no time for lunch - had Sour Patch Kids in the car - came home @ 4pm had 3 cups of coffee and a Debbie Snack - feeling very guilty and not too great right now.....

Not even sure what's for dinner.....too hot to think about it....I know I don't want what DH is making - Sausage and beans - yuck!!

Hi Paula!

Sorry to hear that you didn't have the best day but the night is ahead! See those not so good choices you made as just that, individual choices, and acknowledge that you have the right to make better choices to make a healthier you! :) Focus on the moment, not on the journey, I find that helps me through tough moments, YMMV! :goodvibes

I do hope to hear that you had a great & healthy night which will springboard you into a healthy Thursday!!

Mike :wizard:

Better choice for dinner - was tempted to just gine in and have a sandwich and chips - but didn't!! Made myself a turkey caesar salad - bread - no butter.

Resisting the 9pm munchies - going for water now.

Not sure if I am off to a good start today - lotsa work stress going on .....

so far today had small glass orange juice....3 cups of coffee....pieceof bread with peanut butter.

Gotta get out of the house for a while - more later....

Hi Paula!!
Sorry to hear you think your day didn't start the best, I hope it has gotten a lot better!!!

Have a great night!
Mike :)

Great job on choosing a better supper than the old standby. I have a friend who could live off sandwiches as well, but she has found that if she tries to balance here meals more she is actually losing weight. So it can be done and you can do it.

I am about 1/2 way through Dr. Phil's book, now. Boy the reading is slower than I thought. Lots of things to contemplate and think about, but it is helping. I do want to advise that you actually do all the written exercises that he recommends, it will really help you to go back and discover some interesting facts about yourself. Personally, I need to go back and do a few since I did them mentally when I wasn't near paper and pen while reading the book.

Check out his food guide as well. There is a 14-day Rapid Start in there that lists the types of foods that you should have and when. If you want specific meals, then he has included a menu for the 14 days as well. I have made a few changes to it when I wasn't able to get the items that he suggests, but stay with a similar type of food. As soon as DD18 is leaves next week, I am going back to that menu. Just too hectic to cook much now.

As far as the 9pm munchies, you can get past them. I did and I haven't had those munchies in months and months. Every once in awhile, I get a really late supper and I have eaten some popcorn with the family a few times, but most of the time, I don't even miss it. Every day gets easier. Try reading a book, brushing your teeth early, do a hobby, needlework, puzzles, scrapbooking, late night walk (whatever you can tolerate). Anything will help.

Hope you have a good evening. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi Mike - my day did get a little better - thanks. Ate a normal dinner - just small portions.

Hi Lesli - thanks for the encouraging words - I too have a DD18 leavig for college on the 26th. Reason for my 9pm munchies is mostly because I work at night so I'm just sitting at my desk. And I work from home which makes it even easier to munch - so I will just try to avoid the kitchen - as long as I can get thru the 9-10pm hour I'm usually all set. I also tend to get the 4pm munchies but I know that is because I drink coffee at that time and want something sweet so I have cut down on the coffee. Dr Phil definitely makes sense when he says to replace one behavior with another.

Hurray - it's Friday - made it thru the week better than I thought.

Getting much better at resisting the 4pm and 9pm munchies...cutting down on afternoon coffee helps.

Today I'm going to visit a co-worker that had surgery - I will bring dessert but will leave it there for her. I know she said she is making chicken caesar salad for lunch.
Haven't eaten yet today - just orange juice and coffee so fr.

Feeling good - thinking of coming up with a walking plan....gotta relieve work stress - I work from home so seems like I am working 24/7 - need ways to get me out of my office.

More later....oh - haven't bought the new scale yet.....my old one is definitely dead.

Great job at making it through the week and beginning to recognize some of the things that trigger the overeating. That is a big step in the right direction. A walking routine that you are comfortable with should be a big help.

I hear you on working from home. Sometimes, I think I never leave my office. Today, I am going to start eating in the kitchen and leave the office. That way, I am not eating and working at the same time.

Is your DD18 as excited as mine is to go to college?

Have a good day. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Lesli - my DD is not excited at all - she is very nervous. She is such a serious girn - she knows that she has made the decision but is still very afriad.
She will be about 2 1/2 hours from home - does not know anyone going to her college. Right now she is still on denial mode - spending every precious moment with her bf - hasn't received roomate info yet.

Hi Paula!

Good plan to leave the dessert behind at your co-worker's home!!

Sorry to hear that your DD is nervous about school! It will be a huge step and risk for her, but one with soooo many benefits. I left home for a University that had 30000 students and was 6 hours away from home. I was terrified at first but within the first 48hrs, I felt like I had found a great new home away from home. Now every student's process is different as they adjust but I am sure she will find her place and a whole new slew of friends. Of course I would tell you to encourage her to make good contact with her Resident Assistant/Advisors (RAs!) as they are students there whose job it is to make everyone feel like an involved member of the community. Especially if she does feel isolated at first. The hall staff is trained to look our for students that might not be adapting immediately and will definitely be caring people. Also, a great way to get acclimated is to get involved right away, all sorts of clubs will have new member meetings and the Office of Student Activities will definitely be on the look out for students who want to get involved. I don't know what school she is going to but these things are pretty much universal constants. For me I told myself that as shy and alone as I might have felt I was going to step out of my comfort zone and reach out to people in my Res Hall and on campus. At the end of the Fall semester I had gone from afraid to leave my room to Freshman Class President! hehe! I may seem loud & outgoing on here but at that point in my life I was not, College definitely opened my eyes a lot and made me a more open/communicative person! I am sending her good vibes and hope that she has a blast! She will never get to live this year over again, so I hope she makes the most of this excellent experience! :goodvibes

Have a great day!
Mike :flower:

Thanks for the encouraging words Mike...by the way - she is going to SUNY - Albany.

Ok - baring my soul here - I cheated....I went to the dairy farm for milk and bought desserts for the kids.....and could not resist 1 slice of cake for myself...had 1/2 slice last night and the other 1/2 today - now I'm over it - at least I didn't buy the whole cake...

So far today 1 1/2 pcs cold cheese pizza and 1/2 slice cake...lots of water - dinner is left over barbacued chicken and corn on the cob.

Looking forward to a better week next week.....going go an outdoor concert/cookout tomorrow - my goal is to just watch my portions.

More later - hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

I think you did great with the cake. Definitely a step in the right direction. You didn't devour it all in one sitting and you didn't buy the whole cake. Great job at changing the habit of HOW you eat one piece. No one said you couldn't have a treat from time to time, you just don't want to do it all the time.

Sorry to hear that your DD18 is nervous. Mike has a lot of good points. After a few days, I am sure she will be fine.

Have a good day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Oh cool Paula, Albany is a pretty cool city. I went to Cornell in Ithaca and used to drive through/bus through Albany often. Many times I'd find myself at the Albany bus station with a long lay over so I'd explore a bit. hehe!

I agree with Lesli, you did great with the cake!!! You are right, you did not buy a whole cake... you did not have a whole slice at once even! Good job, that is meeting one of your goals, portion control!!

Good weekend so far hear thank you! Hope yours is good as well!
Mike :goodvibes

Yesterday was definitely a "munchie" day - feel like I sweat off all the bad foods and alcohol that I consumed at the concert.

Feeling stressed today - work stuff - my daughters loans have not come thru yet - etc!! So far small glass of OJ - 3 cups of coffee and 1/4 of a magic cookie bar (at least limiting portions).
Looking forward to a turkey caesar salad for lunch.

More later if my mood improves....

Sorry you are stressed today - you did great the other day with the cake. If you don't have a little something once in a while then it will eventually get you and you will give in and then regret it. So you did very good!!!!! BRAVO

Keep on
Chris

Hi Paula!

I hope that your mood has been able to improve!! If not, I am sending the bananas to help you out...

Hi there - hope you mood turned around...I think we all go through those darn munchie periods....I know I do!

Hi-ho!! My mood improved - thanks to all of you ....and the bananas!!!

But I really caved with the diet today - munched all afternoon - gave in and made a quick sandwich and chips to eat while I am working ...paying for it now - feeling yucky!!!

Looking forward to a better day tomorrow.....

New resolution - not to list what I did wrong but to celebrate what I do right!!!
