Adult currently $75, going up to $110

Thanks for this! I need to send my clients a reminder. Pretty big hike huh!

Well now I don't know what to do. We were going to get DD15 Passport a couple of months ago but the agent talked us into waiting until Aug 13 when she will be 16 so it will be good for 10 years. We do have a trip to Romania planned for when she graduates high school. If we renew now for the 5 years we will have to renew again before that trip.
I don't mind a reasonable hike but $35.00 is a little much.

Is the renewal price cheaper than the initial price? I could've sworn the cost of a passport was about $90...well, either way I guess I need to get my butt in gear and get ours!

98% of the people who commented on the fee hike (the public, travel agents, etc.) to the State Department were against it. Why did they even ask?

ahhhhh gotta love our government.. more taxes for our services...

Isn't it nice then that this is one government service you can avoid. Don't like the fee, don't get a passport. problem solved.

I would wait until it is good for 10 years. I just renewed DD's passport and seems like I just got the old one yesterday!

Thanks for posting this... have to get my 2 year old's passport done and we keep putting it off. This will give us incentive to finally do it!

Well, I guess it depends on if you think you'll be traveling again after the Romania trip. Though I guess it makes sense to pay a little more and get one that lasts twice as long. Even a quick trip to Niagara Falls, CA requires one now.

Thanks for posting this...I am going to get this done next week so I don't have to worry about the increase!

Is the execution fee/acceptance fee of $25 charged at a federal passport office itself or only at acceptance facilities? (It's worth the trip to Houston for us if it isn't charged there.)

I renewed my passport a couple months ago. It wasn't due to expire until October, but I thought I'd make sure to get it in in plenty of time. I got it back (after being rejected because they didn't like the photo) and the new renewal term starts in April. I got gypped out of six months! pirate:

Moral of the story. . .don't renew too far ahead.

That isn't the renewal fee. That's the fee for a new passport. :)

I looked at the website and it's $110. When I got my passport I think it was $60 to renew. All the fees went up except the $25 new fee surcharge. I wasn't clear in my post that I knew that wasn't the fee for a renewal.

I guess they are cashing in now, all those years where they weren't that much but now that everyone wants one just in case because you need them to go to Canada and Mexico they are charging out the behind.

$82 for more pages?!? I almost filled my last one. My new one has <10 stamps ... but I'm thinking to send it off for more pages now for free since I will be stamping up a storm next year! :scared:

Then by default, you cannot travel out of the country.

So if you want to travel out of the coutnry, you will have to pay it.

I've not needed one since mine expired years ago, but we will be going on another cruise when the kiddos are slightly older, so we will need to get one. I'll suck it up and get one then though...

Wow am I glad I renewed my kids' passports last month! Just missed the increase. They don't make it easy to apply for children. Can't renew them, have to appy in person and with both parents (or a notarized form from missing parent). Also had to bring birth cert. proving we were there parents, and show ID.

It cost $85 per passport and they are only valid for 5 years. I thought that was already high!

But aren't you glad now you didn't wait until after the fees increased? :thumbsup2

Guess DH will have to be getting his new one in the next week or so. We were in Northern Minn a few months ago and I wanted to jaunt up into Canada. But his passport's expired. :guilty:
