Can someone please tell me if this is true? I was reading the policy info online for our mini van we are renting from Alamo and it says "A passport is required for all non-U.S. citizens". PLEASEEEEEEEE tell me this just just "small print fluff"? :worried:

GREAT news!! I called Alamo and Canadians only need drivers license and credit card!!! :cool1:

Thanks!

I've rented from them 3 times now and have never needed to show a passport. Just a DL and credit card like you mention.

Oh, phew! You had me freaking out there for a moment, we are driving to NH and flying so we don't need passports otherwise and...well, just lost track of the time and didn't get them. We did get a great rate from Alamo, I'd hate to lose it on a "technicality"!

We've previously rented from Alamo and never had to show a passport. On our last trip we signed up for their quick silver program prior to leaving which meant upon arriving at the airport, we could just go to the counter in the parking garage, show our DL and CC, then proceed to pick out any car in our assigned lot and off we went. No waiting in line at the counter in the terminal with everyone else.

My passport and DL was required at Alamo in Denver this past September.

Just go get a passport - saves the hassle and risk. Well worth the money IMHO.

and back when Alamo was offsite I had to show my passport too (albeit my German one) but others from the UK and Canada were being asked to show theirs as well.

Not intended to scare anyone, but just because it hasn't happened in past doesn't mean that it won't happen in future. If it is in their terms and conditions they have the right to request one, and deny you the rental if you are unable to produce one.

We rent from Alamo all the time and never show anything but DL and credit card. Just rented last week and going again in three weeks. You can even use the online check-in to bypass the counter and go straight to your car (in Orlando Airport).

If you read the fine print again, a passport is required for CASH or DEBIT. I worried about the same thing too when I first booked my car.
I'm NOT getting a passport until I am required by law to do so . With a family of 5 on a budget, I just can't spend that kind of money on something I am not required to have.( about $300). If it was just my DH and I it might be different. The kids will need new ones in three years ( just about the time they may be required to have them!).More money! I'll wait!
I'll save my $$$$ for Disney.
