Joining in! We went on a 13-member extended family trip to WDW September 2016. It was very fun, but it inspired me to do a trip with just DH and I last year. LOL. Two totally different trips!


That is crazy on the motorcycle guy! Glad it didn't impact your parents much.

My sister-in-law and brother are doing a trip just the two of them this year in November. They are trying to convince my husband and I to join in. My husband needs some convincing

Yes, luckily their car was still drivable.

Wish we lived closer to Florida so we could drive. I mean- we could but we're like 1200 miles away. 18 hours of driving!! You're almost there!!

It is about 1400 miles for us (20.5 hours). When you have 4 kids, you drive Flying is just too expensive

I guess I thought you were closer-but yes flights are $$$ for a big family!! We used to take longer vacations when I had little boys but after they grew and got busy, it was so hard to take extended vacations so we couldn't drive for a short trip. I think now that it's sometimes just DH and I, a leisurely drive to Florida may be nice. But how I'll miss "Are we there yet??"

I love hearing about travel days, especially road trip ones. We used to drive down from NYC when I was young and my parents actually still agreed to take us to Disney, LOL. They were long but interesting drives down, and we also did a lot of sight-seeing.
Sorry to hear about your parent's being rear-ended! Is their car ok? It reminds me of when I was driving up to Boston for my sisters' graduation. I was driving my parents week-old new Subaru and we got rear-ended on the highway by a white van. It demolished our car and the van pulled over, two people got out and ran. The Police caught them later on and told us the driver didn't have insurance, had a suspended license, and also had outstanding arrest warrants. Crazy!

I'm a teacher and my older boys are getting to the point where it is hard to take them out of school for long periods, so we had to go on our Spring Break. They still missed two days of school but better than 7 days. Luckily, they are used to driving long distances, so the "are we there yet?" doesn't happen as often. My parents did a lot of sightseeing on their drive. I think they really enjoyed their time in the car.

Since this guy doesn't have insurance, my parents will have to pay their deductible. It could've definitely been worse. My mom is a retired nurse. She was just concerned the guy was really injured. My dad said he was polite and called him sir...before he ran lol.

Travel Day 3 March 17
​

Today we would finally be arriving on Disney property! Peter and I woke up early. Peter went and worked out in the hotel gym. I showered and got ready. We let the kids sleep. We had crossed over to a new time zone, so essentially losing an hour of sleep. I also knew that we wouldn't be sleeping much once we got to Disney. I wanted them to be fresh and rested!

Everyone got up and dressed. We went down and enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel. It seemed the kids were eating at a snail's pace. I was just anxious to get going.

We were on the road at 8 am. We made one stop on the way to Orlando for bathroom and to top off the gas tank. At 12:00, we were going under the sign!

We headed straight to Disney Springs. We parked in the lime green parking garage. This whole area had changed drastically since the last time we were here. We didn't really have an agenda. We were just wasting time until we could check into the condo.

We headed to the Lego store. The kids looked around and dreamed of all the Lego's they wished they had.

We went in the Star Wars store, and the kids made some droids that they didn't get to purchase. Brody wanted to make a build your own light saber on this trip. He had saved his own money to buy it. I convinced him to wait and build it at Hollywood Studios.

This was the first trip that the kids pin traded, so we went in the pin trading store to look around.

We headed into Once Upon a Toy and bought our only purchase of the day, a deck of Nightmare Before Christmas playing cards.

We also went into World of Disney, the Christmas Store, and Goofy Candy Co. My kids thought it smelled weird in Goofy Candy Co., so we left there pretty fast lol.

While at Disney Springs, my sister-in-law text that our condo was ready. We didn't get the firework view I was hoping for. I was a little bummed but reminded myself we were at Disney and any room would be great. We left Disney Springs and headed to Walmart to get water and beer. Then onto the condo!

We love Bonnet Creek. We have stayed there 3 times. Once in a regular 3 bedroom unit and twice in a 4 bedroom presidential. There is so much room, great pools, close to the parks. You can't ask for more!

March 17 Cont. onto Bonnet Creek
​

After our quick stop at Walmart, we headed to Bonnet Creek. My parents and brother's family had already checked in, so we headed straight to tower 2 room 933.

The layout of the 4 bedroom presidintials is you walk in through double French doors into the living area. There was a kitchen off to the left open to the dining area. Straight ahead of the doors was the living room area. The couch in the living area was a pull out bed. To the left was a hallway. At the end of the hallway, was a master bedroom with a king bed and bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The laundry was in that hallway. There was another full bath and a bedroom with 2 double beds. To the right of the kitchen was another hallway. At the end of that hallway, was a master bedroom with a king size bed and bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. The toilet was separated off with a door. The bathroom had a double vanity. I believe both Master suites were the same. We stayed in the one to the right of the kitchen. There was also another bedroom with two double beds and a separate full bath in that hallway. There was a second entrance to the unit down by the master bedroom. There was a full length balcony. We had a golf course/parking lot view this time. I was a little bummed. Last time we had a firework view. Overall the unit was amazing. Enough space for 6 adults and 7 kids. I didn't take any pictures of the unit because two families were already unpacking when we got there. I will include some pictures from google.

Fireworks from our last stay.

There was a window on our hallway that our kids went down and watched the fireworks from one night.

The cousins were pumped to be reunited. There was lots of screaming and running around. We unpacked for the week. In our room, we had a dresser with 6 drawers and two night stands with 3 drawers each. We also had a closet. Unpacking took awhile. While we unpacked, my dad and brother headed to the store to get groceries for dinner, breakfasts for the week, and other things we would need for our stay.

After unpacking, we got on our swimsuits and headed to the pool. The other minor annoyance I had with the tower we were in was that we didn't have a pool. Tower 2 has the mini golf course, and there is a small playground in between tower 1 and 2. We had to go to the main building to pick up our pool towels. The kids had decided they wanted to swim in the pirate pool. During our last stay, only my oldest was tall enough to go down the water slide, but he chickened out. This time the two older boys wanted to go down. We made our way around the pond to tower 6 where the pirate pool is located. We swam for an hour or 2.

We really enjoyed the pool. It had a zero entry entrance on two edges of the pool. It had the fun water slide that ended in a chute instead of a pool of water. The theming was really cool. It was shaded, which would be nice on a hot day. This day was not very hot, and a little more sun would've been nice.

We were all getting hungry. Our family didn't eat lunch. We decided it was time to head up to the room. Mimi had fixed tacos! We ate tacos and had ice cream and strawberries for dessert. All of the kids got showers or baths, and I packed everything we would need for the park the next day and set out everyone's clothes. The kids were all in bed at 8:30. We watched some of the KU basketball game and then headed to bed.

Magic Kingdom Day 1 Pt 1
​

This day started bright and early for Peter and me. We both woke up around 4 and couldn't sleep any later. We decided to head to the condo gym to work out. We left our room around 4:30 to do a quick workout. The walk to the main building took a few minutes.

We went back to the room and woke the kids up. They all got dressed and ate breakfast. We wanted to leave the condo by 7:15. We were on target to make this goal! Brett's family would also be heading to Magic Kingdom on this morning. My parents would not be going with us. They had plans to relax for the day.

We ended up leaving the condo right at 7. We did miss our exit to the MK so we had to circle around. It only added a few minutes onto our travel time.

We were through bag check on the first ferry of the day at 7:40. Brett's family had left the condo a little earlier than us, but we all met up on the ferry.

We didn't wait long for the ferry start. We were unloading and walking onto Main Street shortly after 7:45. The first stop of the day was Starbucks. The park wouldn't be opening for over an hour, so we were just killing time at this point. I don't drink coffee. Peter usually doesn't, but he had some gift cards he had gotten from work. Disney was the perfect time to use them. I got his coffee and we headed to a photo pass photographer to get some pictures.

We then headed closer to the castle and took some more pictures on our own.

We then went to the ropes that were blocking off Liberty Square/Frontierland to wait for park opening. While waiting for opening, we discussed our plan for the day. I had my idea of where to go first, but I let the family decide. We had a side view of the opening show. We hadn't been to Disney since the opening show moved from the train station. I miss the old opening, but understand the need to move it. My kids were still just as excited and enjoyed watching.

Brett's girls, Abby and Avery had a pre park Bibbity Boppity Boutique appointment, so they headed there. The girls looked adorable and really enjoyed their time. Brett and Jackson went through to the appointment with the girls, and then went and waited at 7 dwarves mine train. Jackson got to be the first one on for the day. It sounded like a really cool experience!

I cancelled Annabelle's appointment at BBB. There was much back and forth with the decision, but we decided we wanted this trip to a family trip. We are all running in different directions all of the time, so we wanted this to be a trip the 6 of us really could spend quality time.

Magic Kingdom Day 1 Part 2
​

The opening show concluded, and they let the ropes down. My family had decided on Haunted Mansion as our first ride. It is a family favorite. We headed straight there and were some of the first in line. I always have this anxiety feeling at the beginning of a Disney day that I have to get as much done as soon as possible. Just to see how many rides/attractions I can get done without a wait. Haunted Mansion was not opening it's doors right away. I was starting to think going there first was a mistake. Peter was getting a little annoyed with me and told me to chill. I reminded myself to relax and enjoy the time. It goes so fast!

The doors opened and were in the first group into the stretching room. Annabelle was unsure of the ride. Brody kept telling her it was just pretend and the ghosts were silly. She kept repeating, "silly ghosts" the whole ride. She decided she would probably ride again sometime, which was good

Up next, we headed to It's a Small World. My family was picking things all out of order that I had planned, but I was just trying to go with the flow and enjoy the day.

I was hoping one of their kids would get their name put on the signs. We rode the ride multiple times this trip, and the signs never had anyone's names.

Annabelle got to pick the next ride. She chose Under the Sea- Journey of the Little Mermaid. We were kind of going all over the place at this point, at least there were no waits for any of the rides they were picking.

Up next Peter, Ronan, and Trent had a fast pass for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Our fast pass was scheduled for 9:50. We got there shortly after our window opened. We got a rider swap pass before they headed into the queue. Brody is too scared to ride this one. Brody, Annabelle and I sat in the shade and had a snack. After their ride, we stopped for a photo pass pic.

After our pictures, we headed to Magic Carpets. I knew Annabelle would enjoy this ride. Other rides were starting to get longer waits, so I knew this one wouldn't be too long.

We enjoyed our ride. When we hopped off the ride, I saw that Jasmine and Aladdin were out meeting and didn't have a long wait. I asked to make sure their line wasn't closed. It was still open, so we hopped in line. We had a great meet. Annabelle was excited to meet a real princess. I took videos of all of our character meets. I will try and figure out how to upload those in another post.

After our meeting with royalty, I had to get a Dole Whip. We all shared the delicious treat!

Dole Whip finished, we had another fast pass to head to. Brody, Annabelle, and I had a fast pass scheduled for space mountain. Only Peter and I would be riding this. Before our trip, I kept reading conflicting things about rider swap. Some people were being asked to prove that all parties riding the ride, even those that would be using the rider swap had a fp before they would be given the rider swap pass. Every time we went to get a rider swap pass on our trip, they never asked us to prove that everyone had a fp for the ride. We would just ask for the pass. They would hand the adult rider a lanyard to carry to the next check point, where they were given the rider swap pass. Peter was going to ride space mountain first. Trent wanted to try, so he got in line with Peter. I headed to Peoplemover with the little 3. I got a call as we were in line to come get Trent. He was too nervous to ride. We all got out of Peoplemover rider and went and got Trent. I then headed back to Peoplemover with all 4 kids. Annabelle declared Peolemover her favorite ride. Ronan tells people that he rode Space Mountain because of going inside of it on the Peoplemover track

I swapped with Peter. I went and rode Space Mountain, and he took the kids for another ride on Peoplemover. Since we had 3 fast passes and we were still in our fast pass window. I got another rider swap pass. We would never actually use these passes, but they were good until the 31st so we gifted them to people later in our trip.

After our rides, we went to meet Brody's favorite character Stitch! Brody's love for Stitch started on Brody's our first family trip, his 4th birthday trip. It was our first day, and we were walking into Hollywood Studios. Minnie Mouse and Stitch were outside of the gates meeting. Brody immediately saw the "blue alien" and wanted to meet him. I saw Minnie Mouse and hopped in line. By the time we were done meeting Minnie, Stitch's line was closed. Brody was devastated. We eventually met him that trip at Epcot. That started a Stitch love! So he was pumped to meet him on this trip.

After our fun meet with Stitch, we headed to the tea cups. Peter doesn't ride this ride, so it was me and the 4 kids. We had a fun spin and then headed to my favorite underrated attraction Mickey's Philharmagic. I just love this attraction. Then it was time for our FP for Peter Pan. Everyone loved this ride. My kids were sad that the ride was so short.

I'm going to leave off here for today. I need to get the kids to bed.

Magic Kingdom Day 1 Pt3
​

After our ride on Peter Pan, it was after 2:00 and we were all hungry. We were headed to Peter's favorite quick service, Columbia Harbor House. Luckily for us, it was just around the corner. We walked over and ordered our meals. We got 2 trio platters and 2 kids chicken strip meals to share. It was more than enough food for our family of 6.

We were all thankful for the break to rest. At this point, we were trying to decide if we should head out of the park for a rest or push through. We really wanted to see Happily Ever After on this night, but we were hitting a wall. After lunch we felt a little refreshed and decided to stay.

We left CHH and the 3:00 parade was getting ready to start. The boys saw a CM with pins, so they ran over to make their very first pin trades.

We have never stopped to see the 3:00 parade. We did not have a front row view, but we could still see. Annabelle decided at this time she was too tired to watch. I really wanted her to see it. I knew she would love it. She was content with missing it, so I had to let it go. I did film part of it so she could watch later.

We had ran into Brett's family a few times throughout the day. We didn't have any fast passes or plans together for this day. We saw them after the parade. They had dinner at BOG that they were headed to.

After the parade, we headed to the front of the park to do what Trent had been begging to do...Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. We went and got our cards. Then, went to our first portal.

I saw on the app that Tinkerbell had a short wait, so we headed to see her. Annabelle was excited to meet Tink. She had her on her dress that day and couldn't wait to show her. Annabelle is generally very outgoing. She kept clamming up around the characters. She would have questions prepared to ask the characters. Then, when it was her turn, she would get too nervous. I would have to remind her of her questions then she would get more comfortable and have a lot of fun. Tinkerbell was really sweet with her and the boys.

After Tinkerbell, Peter was done. He didn't want to do anything else. We still had a rider swap for Big Thunder Mountain to use. I asked the kids if anyone wanted to ride. Annabelle and Trent wanted to go. I left Peter, Ronan, and Brody resting on a bench on the bridge leading into Liberty Square. Annabelle, Trent, and I headed to BTMR. Annabelle did not love the ride but didn't hate it either. By the time we were done riding Peter was rested and ready to move onto something else.

We headed to Gaston's tavern for a snack. The kids wanted a cinnamon roll and Lefou's Brew. We got our snack and sat outside by the fountain to eat it.

At this point it was 6:11 pm, we were waiting until our fast pass for 7 dwarves mine train at 7:05. I got on the app to see what had a low wait time. I saw that Dumbo had a short wait, so we headed there. The kids and I went for a ride.

We rested a few minutes and then headed to 7dmt to use our last fast pass of the day. While in the line, I looked on the app to see if there were any more fp available for anything. There was not.

Annabelle hated the ride! I felt so bad for the people in front of us. She screamed the entire time. I video recorded her because I thought she would love the ride. I was wrong! After that ride, we regrouped and decided what to do next. We looked up and saw that Winnie the Pooh had a 15 minute wait. We had never done this ride before, so we jumped in line. The queue was super cute. My kids loved the honey wall. I was a little worried about germs, but had to get over it.

After Winnie the Pooh, it was 7:50. HEA was scheduled for 8:55. We decided we should head and stake out a spot. We headed toward the hub. I heard that a straight on view was a must to take it all in.

This was as good as I could get. CMs kept trying to get people to cram in the middle. We had a huge double jogger plus two kids not in a stroller. I didn't want to fight that mass of people. We decided to stay put even when everyone else crammed into the middle. We had a good spot.

The show was about to start, and I saw this . I was so sad they would be missing the show!

Almost go time!

I enjoyed the show. The projections were cool, and the music was great. The fireworks at Disney always get me. I love to look around and watch my kids reactions. It's just a time that I like to stop and take it all in. Trent and Brody were in awe. I love it that even though they are getting older, they aren't too old for Disney magic.

After the show, we headed out with the masses. We were on the ferry at 9:35 and back to the condo by 10:15. We all took showers and headed to bed. We had an early morning breakfast planned.

Ronan tells people that he rode Space Mountain because of going inside of it on the Peoplemover track

When my DS was young, DH and older DS would do Space Mountain while we went on the Peoplemover. Yes- he felt like he was on Space because of the part you go through the ride. To this day, Peoplemover is a family favorite ride! Especially when Space is down- they have the lights on and you can see the ride from the Peoplemover.

Columbia Harbour House is our family's favorite! Love the upstairs seating!
