PART TWO *December 2012 Roll Call* Holidays, FLE & MVMCP!! A very, merry thread!

We've waited a long time to be able to have a child to take with us (5 years of TTC and infertility) so I'm GLAD we have no date nights this trip hehe :) BUT I am sad we can't go to Jelly Rolls. That place is awesome and we only just discovered it the trip we took a few months before we finally got pregnant. Oh well. Next trip we will have some friends with us and we've already discussed taking turns going there :)
Having friends on trips are awesome ... problem is you end up wanting adult nights with your friends then you end up doing what we're doing: hiring a babysitter for your collective children. We're also lucky in that we have one night all the adults, then potentially more nights when Uncle will be watching them.
Could we do a group TR thread, more like a photo sharing and experiences.... Pixie dust moments and what not?
This sounds great! Since I'm going at the beginning of the month, it will help my Disney withdrawal to see all of your magical moments happening after mine are done.
If you two don't end up dating, I don't know who will be more disappointed--you or all of us?? :rotfl2:
Yep, its like reading a romance novel ... all us committed people are rooting for you to have that happy ending ... I'm normally not into other people's love lives since its too much drama, but I can't help but hope Levenhopper gets that extra bit of Disney magic, especially since DH & I were close friends for about a year before we first got together on our first Disney trip.
We have MVMCP tickets for December 6th that we got way before they announced the grandopening of Fantasyland. Do you think the grandopening is going to make the Christmas Party crazy busy or busier than it would have been? I'm probably the only person not excited about the grandopening being during their very first December trip.:worried:
I'm not excited about it either ... this is our first WDW trip in 20 years and I picked early Dec in part for the low crowds (and low DVC points), and here DisneyParks has the gall to try to make extra money by crowding the park during my trip. :rotfl:
I got a lunch ADR at CRT for the 20th! Woot! That means I'll have to move our LTT lunch ADR to the 13th or the 14th, but that shouldn't be too hard.

I can't believe that happened!
Wow that's fantastic! Congrats, what great luck! Now I just need some of your ADR magic to rub off on me!;)
In the mean time, I'm off to book an AKV 1BDR. I want to lock in the discount just in case.
I love that your Disney back up plans are so detailed.

called and requested paper rect of payment as well as an email....did it once and they have sent it everytime!....got a bit excited to get a piece of Mickey mail....the final rect for our trip showing a $0 balance due! It seems nice to get a bit of "happy" mail! after sitting and going over our plans and the 3 ADRs we have, I was a bit saddened to let one go, but only 2 of us wanted it and the majority ruled, so saddly I canceled our ADRs to the Garden Grill last night.....bein ga family of 6, even if we would have upgraded, we would have spent more OOP for tips than we wanted. my kids arent big eaters and prefer the qs.....maybe next trip, but til then I will be happy that we are going and all is paid!
:woohoo:Congrats on being paid off! I know the feeling about Garden Grill ... we really wanted that ADR, but decided against it because of the price. Then we added an extra night at the beginning of our reservation and could therefore get one night of Dining Plan at the non-holiday price, so we were able to justify it that way, otherwise if we were going OOP as we are for the rest of the trip, we'd have to skip it.
The verdict is in: Completely torn ACL with lateral and medial meniscus tears. Having ACL reconstruction with next week. Doc will either try to repair my meniscuses (or meniscusi? ROFL) or remove the torn parts depending on how bad it is when he sees it. He would rather try and salavge what he can to prevent problems with this knee in the future. Doctor seems really optomistic that I will be up and walking for Disney. I know I will be walking before then, but I am worried if I will have the stamina for Disney now. I am worried about how my knee will feel after 8 to 12 miles a day just 9 weeks our from surgery. I am taking the conservative route, and ordered a scooter to be delievered to our resort. Hubby thinks I am being a baby about all of this. :/
I'm so sorry Nixie. My mom has a torn ACL, and was in a lot of pain for a long time. Fortunately she got a really great physical therapist and after switched to a physical trainer who rented gym space from him, (still goes over 5 years later) and now she can ski and horseback ride and be as physical as she wants to be without any surgery. Definitely take the scooter and take it easy on this trip. Even if you don't use it every day, it will still be worth it so that on whatever days your knee doesn't feel up to that much walking, you won't over-stress it and exacerbate the problem.
OK, so I am so throwing my DH under the bus here...He wants to get it from the Car Care Center because he wants to avoid tolls as much as possible :rotfl2: Ah, I still have some time before we need to reserve it, maybe I can talk him into renting from the Airport.
Yeah, I didn't want to deal with the airport drive either, so we're taking ME then renting on-site 5 days into our trip, then returning it two days before we depart. I totally get your DH's point of view. Driving within Disney sounds like it makes the trip easier, driving to and from the airport when someone will do that for me for free and transport our luggage? I'll take it ... ::yes::
I wasn't thinking about renting a car, but now I'm second guessing it. We're not doing park hoppers, so once we're in a park we won't be moving around to a different park, except for the day we're in MK, leaving for 'Ohana, and returning for MVMCP. Will I be loosing a lot of time by using Disney transportation ($337ish worth of time)?
We're doing half-and-half on the rental car, getting it for part of the trip and not for the other part. For the part we're not getting the car I have my routes kind of sketched out, and when I want to get somewhere more quickly/less hassle than Disney transportation would require, I've just budgeted for a taxi using the Mears calculator. For those taxis, its less than renting a car for that period. Might be worth looking into ... Have a feeling if you took a taxi 1-2x day it would still be substantially less than a rental car.

We are renting a car from the airport. We drove down to Disney last year and I was spoiled by the ease of getting to and from our ADRs. I am really bummed I won't get to experience ME though.

Better to baby it than to do further damage by putting too much strain too soon. Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could be added to the list?

We are arriving on 12/9 and staying at the movies resort

This will be my 20th time to Disney and my kids 3rd trip!!

I really dont know what I'm more excited for...Pirates League (yes I will be joining the kids in the transition :rotfl2: ), BOG, MVMCP or Fantasy Land.

I am a Disney junkie and love knowing I'm not alone in my obsession.

I'm a little shy (even online...go figure  ) and have wanted to get more involved in the discussions...I think this is the best way to break the ice.

Thanks :lovestruc

First, let me say, I'm sorry about the diagnosis. Second, your doctor is right. With having the surgery now, you will be ready for Disney in Dec. When I had surgery on my "meniscuses (or meniscusi? ROFL)" I was able to get around within a week :crutches: and start PT after the follow-up appt and once the stitches were out. I know your's is a little more drastic. But let me tell you, you will love and hate your therapist. But after a couple of sessions, you will notice that your endurance has gone through the roof on the eliptical/bike that they use (and some weight loss).

Good luck. Don't push yourself too hard too fast. And make sure you play the "sympathy card" on your as family as much and for as long as you can.

HAHAHA :rotfl: No, it was very helpful!
I just feel so rushed during park close to hurry up and get to the bus and pray there isn't a mile long line.

We always do the opposite. You can get in line for an attraction right up to park closing time. And as long as you're moving in the right direction after close CM's don't generally rush you. Shopping is another good way to kill time. Then by the time we leave the park, we've missed the mad rush.

Of course, if you have small children that need to be in bed, that strategy doesn't work as well. That's one of the main reasons we try to stay on the Boardwalk when we can. A nice leisurely stroll (or a boat when we're tired) beats the bus any day. Though I would still rather do the bus than drive on vacation. I hate driving.

Welcome aboard. And don't worry. You don't have to be shy here. I think all of us, on this thread, has revealed at least 1 embarrassing story about ourselves. Some, like myself, might have more than 1 :joker: ...

Don't forget to check the 1st page of the thread for the roster, links and, if you want, add your name to the list of those of us going to MVMCP and which night.

Have fun. :wave2:

We rented a car from Avis and picked up & dropped off at MCO and it was absolutely 100% painless. Soooo easy. The rental station was literally 100 yards from baggage claim. Don't rule out picking up a car at the airport.

There are a few rental places off airport property but as long as you get one that's in the terminal, I agree. It's super easy. I love DME but it can be really slow. If I were getting the car anyway, I would definitely do it at the airport.

To each his (or her) own but I've read to many stories about people waiting and waiting for a bus either from the resort to a park, from a park back to the resort (especially at the end of the night when everyone floods out at the same time), try to get from one resort to another, etc. To me (and we're not doing hoppers either), it is so absolutely worth the extra money to have the freedom to go where we want, when we want, not having to wait for anyone, not having to deal with a packed bus full of sweaty, stinky people & cranky, crying kids. I can't even begin to tell you! But…that's just my take.

Not a fan of the bus system then?

:rotfl2:

So lately my BF has been into doing odd things with his facial hair. I think its a result of the Gillette commercials. Well now he says he wants to grow a handlebar mustache in time for our trip! OMG! I don't know if I can handle having that in all of our pictures. lol

Ha!

My DH does this all. the. time. He does all this whacky creative stuff with his facial hair, comes into the room with a stupid grin on his face and his eyebrows jumping up seeking my approval. I bought him an 'instant moustache' kit for xmas - its hilarious, has 6 different ones ranging from little to HUGE :teeth:

The only times I have been to WDW and needed a rental car, was when me and my friends budgeted a Universal Studios day. So, if you are planning on going to US, or Sea World or into Orlando proper, it might be worth it to you. But, everything else on property can be reached either by Disney transportation or a < $20 cab ride. Even the town car services down there are reasonable in regards to cost. Try to get a few business cards when you get to MCO.

You have joined a fantastic group to break the ice with. We're easy going, chatty and stupidly excited about Christmas in Disney. Make sure to read post #2 - Tofubeast has supplied everything you need to know and don't be afraid to ask anything.

Welcome! :)

I love Disney transportation. If you're not park hopping a lot, going off site or trying to take small children back to the resort for naps, then I don't see any reason to worry about a car. As a general rule I plan to get to the bus stop 40 minutes before I need to be there. The buses run 20 minutes apart and trips are a max of 20 minutes. So that basically covers you in case you just miss one. Generally it takes less than that. Also, remember that at MK you can lose just as much time (and del with crowds) parking at TTC and taking the monorail over, since you can't park at MK. Unofficial Guide has a great chart comparing all the transportation time options.

Even when we went offsite to Discovery Cove it made more sense for us to use a taxi. We'll probably also use a taxi this time to get back from one or two of our resort dinners. We'll go out using Disney transport but it will be late when we come back, so we'll probably use a cab.

He'll fit right in on Main Street. ;)

No car rental for us this is also a vacation for DH (i hate driving when I am exhausted). We take the bus and enjoy it I love meeting all the interesting people. This will be our first trip where we won't have to fight with a stroller. :rotfl2: If you are thinking of renting from the airport it is faster to get to the airport via a car. Last June the kids and I took ME and DH took the rental car and he beat us to the resort.:drive:

Tell him he can have it for only day 1, and use that day to go to MK. That way, you can get a pic of him as the 5th member of the barbershop quartet, and 1 of him beneath a Casey's sign. Then he has to shave it that night.

Though I kind of respect his courage. I'm a facial hair wearer myself (goatee), and BDLsgal is always telling me I "missed a spot" when I'm done shaving.

LOL. You know, it's funny my DH hates public bus transportation. But if I suggested we drive at Disney, he'd think I was insane. He'd end up doing all the driving and he'd hate it. We love Disney transport and there's only been a couple times I remember being packed in like sardines.

We drive down so its easy for us to use our car plus, my Mum is an ECV user so she prefers not to use the transportation system - she feels like she holds people up - but for the most part, I read great reports about the system.
