We rented a car from Avis and picked up & dropped off at MCO and it was absolutely 100% painless. Soooo easy. The rental station was literally 100 yards from baggage claim. Don't rule out picking up a car at the airport.

In August we rented from Dollar using a city special. We chose to get the car at MCO and return it to the Wyndham by DTD. You could check the prices from Wyndham. It would be easy to take the bus to DTD to walk to get the car.

OK, so I am so throwing my DH under the bus here...He wants to get it from the Car Care Center because he wants to avoid tolls as much as possible :rotfl2: Ah, I still have some time before we need to reserve it, maybe I can talk him into renting from the Airport.

Well compare the prices. If you add the tolls, gas and rental amount vs the rental Amy at the car care center and see which is the better deal. Saving money there means more souvenirs or better yet .... CUPCAKES! lol

It is worth it to me to pay a few bucks in tolls for convenience and not having to deal with waiting on the ME to pick us up, dealing with people on the bus, stopping off at other hotels before ours, going to Wal-Mart for snacks and supplies before we even check into the hotel, etc. My opinion: Save up an extra $5-$10 for tolls and start your trip off stress free.

Mmmm cupcakes... Sorry had a Homer Simpson doughnut moment there!!

Actually speaking of tolls I read something about one of the exits being complete electronic? Sunpass or something?? Does anyone know the toll # and what the deal is?

I wasn't thinking about renting a car, but now I'm second guessing it. We're not doing park hoppers, so once we're in a park we won't be moving around to a different park, except for the day we're in MK, leaving for 'Ohana, and returning for MVMCP. Will I be loosing a lot of time by using Disney transportation ($337ish worth of time)?

Woo Hoo!!! Just booked a short trip for Dec. 19th - 23rd staying at AoA. It's just sissy and me going for a little mid-school-year detox (sissy teaches kindergarten and I'm in school administration). I'm super excited because it's only our second trip to WDW and our first on-site visit! I can't wait to see all the Christmas decorations and the Osborne Lights at HS.

Now to go buy MVMCP tickets, and figure out what ADRs I can still get, and cross reference the crowd calendars on every planning site known to man.............I think the planning may be more fun for me than the actual trip!

My rental from MCO is $202 for a mid size SUV from 12/1 - 12/8 from budget. There is a December rental thread for deals over on the transportation board. I am hoping I can get my rate even lower!

To each his (or her) own but I've read to many stories about people waiting and waiting for a bus either from the resort to a park, from a park back to the resort (especially at the end of the night when everyone floods out at the same time), try to get from one resort to another, etc. To me (and we're not doing hoppers either), it is so absolutely worth the extra money to have the freedom to go where we want, when we want, not having to wait for anyone, not having to deal with a packed bus full of sweaty, stinky people & cranky, crying kids. I can't even begin to tell you! But…that's just my take.

I don't think you need a car. DH and I have survived all our past trips without one. Taking Disney transportation can be fun and easy at times. I am just opting this time to see how it is, plus we have a free day and plan to drive around Florida a bit.

I had a rental then canceled it. This trip is about dh being able to totally relax too. Plus if we have a cocktail or two no one has to worry about driving. I've do it both ways and it's really up to you! Disney transportation can be a fun adventure!

I get you :-)
That is exactly how we do it. Sort of a no-plan within a plan. Or maybe a plan within randomness?

I am the same way. I remember getting to the Toy Story ride as soon as it opened once and it wound up not opening up for at least 2 hours. My planning is ADRs and park days based on parades and similar events or else I would drive myself and my family crazy refering to my down to the minute plan.

The verdict is in: Completely torn ACL with lateral and medial meniscus tears. Having ACL reconstruction with next week. Doc will either try to repair my meniscuses (or meniscusi? ROFL) or remove the torn parts depending on how bad it is when he sees it. He would rather try and salavge what he can to prevent problems with this knee in the future. Doctor seems really optomistic that I will be up and walking for Disney. I know I will be walking before then, but I am worried if I will have the stamina for Disney now. I am worried about how my knee will feel after 8 to 12 miles a day just 9 weeks our from surgery. I am taking the conservative route, and ordered a scooter to be delievered to our resort. Hubby thinks I am being a baby about all of this. :/

Good luck with this (break a leg!) I don't blame you for being conservative. My husband is the biggest baby when it comes to any pain. I think your husband is jealous of the scooter.

We typically drive down, but then leave our car parked for the entire trip until its time to go home. You just have to allow yourself extra time in the mornings then don't rush out at the end of the night...take your time, stroll, shop, whatever.

Plus if we drive to the park, my BF and I would probably have a battle over who had to be the driver cause we both want to just pass out in the car. By taking the bus, we both can crash. (We both fell asleep on the bus on one trip and the bus driver had to come wake us up). LOL

Thanks for all the feedback - glad to hear I can save the money and use it on something else for the trip. :cool1:

On a different note: I just heard that they're reinstalling the giant balloon at DTD :D It was one of the first things I was looking forward to when I booked my trip (before I knew about all the other awesome things at WDW). So, for anyone else who was hoping it'd be back, no need to worry!

So lately my BF has been into doing odd things with his facial hair. I think its a result of the Gillette commercials. Well now he says he wants to grow a handlebar mustache in time for our trip! OMG! I don't know if I can handle having that in all of our pictures. lol

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could be added to the list?

We are arriving on 12/9 and staying at the movies resort

This will be my 20th time to Disney and my kids 3rd trip!!

I really dont know what I'm more excited for...Pirates League (yes I will be joining the kids in the transition :rotfl2: ), BOG, MVMCP or Fantasy Land.

I am a Disney junkie and love knowing I'm not alone in my obsession.

I'm a little shy (even online...go figure  ) and have wanted to get more involved in the discussions...I think this is the best way to break the ice.

Thanks :lovestruc
