Hello everyone:goodvibes Reporting from the Bahamas regarding Hurricane Sandy:rotfl: Well, Sandy is definitely unpredictable....she was supposed to breeze through overnight and be long gone, but oh no...the Bahamas are just way too beautiful so she decides to take her sweet time slowing down during the night...It was a miserable night! The worst should have been over by 2 am, but when we got up at 8 am it was still blowing a hurricane outside and since we didn't have power, we had no clue that she had slowed down significantly and the eye wasn't over us until sometime this morning about 9 am roughly.

Now it has been pretty calm for hours and there have been some conflicting stories...had the storm passed finally? OR was it the eye over us and the worst was yet to come? With most typical hurricanes the worst is usually after the calm of the eye, but Sandy is not a typical formed hurricane, so it is actually quite confusing :headache:

As far as we can tell, we will still get 50mph + winds this afternoon into tonight. Hopefully by tomorrow she will be all gone. We do have a lot of our shutters open right now to get some breeze (we have shutters that fortunately close from the inside of our house!)

We have generator power right now and thanks to our Cable company (my internet and cable) being tied into the hardware store on the island, we will have Cable/internet as long as the hardware has their generator turned on!!!

My husband and I had a miserable night, but of course the girls slept right through everything! Oh, and some good news...I finally found my other cat, Pookie! She looks a little shook up and wet, but once she smelled the can of cat food, she was hopping right towards me (YES, she hops when she gets excited...her original name she came with was Bunny and now we know why, lol :rotfl2:)

I'm really hoping that by tomorrow we might get power again!!! I'm really praying for all of you that are in Sandy's expected path. It is definitely a huge storm that we've been feeling now for 3 days now.

Please stay safe, everyone!!!

I just keep telling myself, 48 more days until Disney:cheer2:

It's no problem to check out, check your luggage and go to the parks. However, keep in mind that you have to check in at your resort for DME 3 hours before your flight.

I thought it was a three hour check in time. So we would basically have until 2:00 in whatever park that day. I can't remember how long it took us last year to get to our resort from MCO on the ME. It seemed really slow to me but we also stayed at the Poly and it was the next to last resort that the ME stopped at. I read on Easy WDW that he expects WDW to announce that MK will be open to 1 am on our arrival day, so even if we can't get to a park until 7:30 or so, we could get in a few hours of parades, rides, whatever. Honestly, one of the best things about changing the times is that we wouldn't have to get up as early on arrival and departure day. The girls and I are night owls. They have an 8:15-8:30 bedtime during the school week but my 4 year old lays in there talking to herself for at least another hour, sometimes longer!

So it looks like I am leaving you all. We're having to postpone our trip, my grandmother is not well, spent last weekend on a ventilator. She's home because there's nothing else they can do. They give her 2 months or so. So we're pushing our trip back to late February.

Enjoy your trips, have magical Christmasy times! & shop, shop, shop! pixiedust:pixiedust:

I may peek in from time to time as there seems to be no February thread!? :confused3 :faint:

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family!

I happy to hear you are safe and that Pookie came home! Pookie is the name of the cat at the bodega around the corner from me. She's so sweet.

I'm not looking forward to getting the storm in 3 days, but at least I've been told I can work from home (as long as we have power!)

Glad you are all safe and that you found your kitty! We sometimes get the remnants of hurricanes that come up the gulf coast but by the time they reach us they are just tropical storms or depressions. Of course, we have tornadoes to deal with, though.

Glad to hear that you, your family and your cat are safe and glad you have power and internet. Hope Sandy goes by soon - wish it would head out to sea instead of hitting the coast. Stay safe!!! :goodvibes

Glad you are safe. This storm is WILD. We are on her target list and it's crazy around here. I'm running out for extra batteries and water in a little bit and stocking up on some non perishables. Praying if we lose power it isn't to long. Hope the worst is over for ya

On the bright side, I went mid-to-late February this year, and it is a very nice time to visit. Low crowds and nice weather.

I'm so glad you are safe and Pookie is home now too! And that you still have cable and internet :rotfl: At least that helps with the boredom! Fingers crossed your power comes back on ASAP.

Here in MD the governor just (like 20 minutes ago) declared a state of emergency in preparation for Sandy. It's expected to stall over us due to a bad winter storm arriving here at the same time, so we are most likely going to get at least 2 full days of flooding rains. And I will still have to work in it, so I'm not looking forward to driving down flooded roads. :sad2:

Call me crazy but we have each day planned right down to where we are going to eat including our days off. :D Bring it on, can't wait to get away from this cloudy and cold weather that all the sudden struck here again.

I say y'alls all the time, but I'm told the "correct" plural form should be all y'all. LOL
This is what I've heard from my best friend who is from Arkansas as well.
I have Walmart close by. I drive about an hour to local shopping which is groceries, BJs,and some clothing stores but no malls or anything like that. I am happy we have an EMS and a gap factory store there... There is a lot of small town shops too but most of them too over priced - and selection is meh.... Every few months we drive to Southern NH go to Boston (3 hrs) go to the aquarium/museum and do some shopping... :) it usually corresponds with my kids needing new clothes or Christmas type shopping :)
That reminds me of when I was a kid, we used to have to fly to Honolulu to do back-to-school shopping, because there was one department store on the island at the time.
All you need in Maui is shorts, tanks, sundress' & flip flops! I love Maui! :beach:

So why are you in California looking for a job? Wondering where you are? we have outlets just down the road from where I live; in Camarillo. We are between LA and Santa Barbara, land of fruits and nuts. :dance3:
I do love the extremely casual dress code on Maui. I'm in Vacaville atm about halfway between Sac and the Bay, but the job I'm going for is near Oakland, so I need to leave in an hour or so. I've been looking for jobs on the Central Coast as well, since our close friends who make up the other part of our travelling party next month are from Lompoc, but there's a lot more openings in the Bay Area than on the central coast, and the closer one gets to LA the more expensive real estate seems to get.
 No Target!?!?! Thats tragic - poor happy tink who has no Target
I know, right? When my brother first moved to the mainland we were just in awe of Target and went to buy everything there for his house. :rotfl:
Good news!

Southwest's prices for our flight went down AGAIN!

This has been about the 5th time we've rebooked our flights, saving us mucho RR points.

So not only do we get a few more points back into the account, but now I have enough to get another $50 gift card of my choosing.

Everyone who's flying SW, check your prices!!
Thanks for the warning. I actually just bought my friend's ticket yesterday, the last day of the sale and sure enough today prices for Oakland-MCO jumped back up. Will still keep an eye out though ...
Tomorrow is my bday. DBF has to go to a cousin's husband's funeral. I think I may go to the Greenwood Cemetary in Brooklyn and tour the catacombs. Or maybe I'll stay in and make my packing list and list of must dos.
Happy early birthday!
Good morning all. THings are crazy around here. We officially put our house on the MLS listing last night and a couple are coming to look at it at 1:00. My husband agreed to get a cleaning team in here this morning-yea! Homes are selling fast around here which freaks me out!

Anyway we are down to 35 day or so. I always have to check with my son for the exact count. Pretty soon I can say I am going this month. :yay:
Wow that is an incredibly fast response. When we bought our house in Solano in 2008 it seemed that every home had been sitting on the market 3-9 months, lots of foreclosures. We might be looking at buying another house in East Bay soon, hope we don't end up in a bidding war or getting what we want sold out from under us faster than we can make an offer.
So it looks like I am leaving you all. We're having to postpone our trip, my grandmother is not well, spent last weekend on a ventilator. She's home because there's nothing else they can do. They give her 2 months or so. So we're pushing our trip back to late February.

I'm sorry about your grandmother :grouphug: stay strong!

Oh and feel free to peek all you want - just bc we are the December thread doesn't mean we don't want you around! I'm sure we would all love to help in your February planning and be there for you during the tough time you have ahead....

I do a lot of returning. I'll often buy the same item in multiple sizes or colors. But some stores (Old Navy, Gap, Lands End) make it super easy to return - just slap a label in it and they charge $5 for shipping via UPS or USPS. Even for the ones that don't, Staples is right down the street so it's still closer than the mall. And I just like the luxury of trying things on at home.

I'm also fortunate to be able to get delivery from a local dairy and an organic produce place. I get those weekly and then get regular groceries delivered a couple times a month. Although our grocery store doesn't do too bad at picking decent produce either, as long as its in season. DH does all the cooking so he tends to stop at Wegmans periodically for higher end meats and fish but all the staples get delivered.

Trying things on at home is nice.... Hehe but for me it's the opposite I would feel so hassled returning things!! :faint:

I LOVE the Raliegh area. My BiL and a few friends live there. They love the schools and there is so much to do.

It seems like a lot of people like the Raleigh area - its seems like it has enough of a city to it, and lots of varied things to do. I like the idea of the mountains 3 hrs, beach like 2 or so, and Disney 10 hours away!! As well as being within driving distance to the NJ/NY area to see family...

So I am trying to clean the house - I have company coming over tonight... Why are little kids so dirty!!!
