So my FIL called someone to take a look at the burner. Turns out that it needed some parts replaced, which was done, and now we have heat again

! We spent 2 nights over at my mom's while my FIL was trying to figure out what the problem could be.
FIL even went so far as to break open a section of the wall in the living room where the chimney is. He and his father constructed something to help with the burner and chimney (don't ask, it's too complicated for me to understand). When he was done, there on the cement was the family last name and 1957-58 written in pencil, which is when they had constructed it this thing (DH's dad bought this house in 1954). Well it turns our that he didn't need to open the wall in the first place. If he had just called the burner guy, he could have avoided all of that un-necessary work

Knowing him, it's going to be a while before he's able to patch it up. On the brighter side, DH was thinking of hiding it by "wrapping" that wall with wrapping paper as part of the Christmas decoration

Love you Dear!
