PART FIVE!! *December 2012 Roll Call* Holidays, FLE & MVMCP!! A very, merry thread!

I'm getting to that grandma stage where I'd ask him to stop with the swearing. Or get up and go talk to the flight attendant about it. When people swear all the time, I think sometimes they just forget what they're saying. Like that line from The Big Lebowski when the Stranger says "Do you have to use so many cuss words?" and the Dude says "What the f**k are you talking about?"

I was at a football game once and the person behind me was rooting for the opposing team and every other word was F**K this, F**k that. There was a young girl sitting next to me so I turned around and told him that I didn't care which team he rooted for but would he please watch his language - His reply "What the f**k did I say?" And I don't think he really knew it was offensive.

When I'm teaching this I notice it in school a lot. Especially the kids who come from more disadvantaged homes ... they tend to not even notice it. I don't make a big deal about it, but I try to explain to them that they should use the same language in school that they would use on a job ... and most of them are going to end up trying to work in the hospitality industry somehow, which means they're going to have to interact with tourists who won't take kindly to it. Its sort of practice for filtering themselves mentally later; doesn't really do any good to tell them they're being offensive, it often just doesn't compute. :teacher:

It occurs to me that that kind of usage defeats the point of profanity, which is for emphasis and shock value, or to say that what you're discussing is actually ... well, profane.

Just chiming in to say I'm about 48 hours away from my plane taking off and heading towards WDW!! Can't wait to have a great dinner at Yachtsman on Saturday night and start our vacation. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited!!!

We are 48 hours out also. The weather is looking much warmer than 2008 or 2010. No record lows predicted.

Yay! I love making people laugh...

"I'm here all week folks, make sure you tip your waiters and bartenders."

:cool2:
So Val, I have a confession to make... for some CRAZY reason, I've been reading your DIS name wrong ALL.THIS.TIME... and um, what I'm about to say is not to be a reflection of my character... :sad2:

I've been reading Vagloof so when I shorten it, instead of Val, I get Vag and not the kind that rhymes with bag, but more like badge... but um, with a v...

yea, sorry...

but so glad I got that off my chest :rotfl:

laugh away!

:lmao::lmao:

Glad you got that figured out. It would have been a problem if you had been yelling that as you ran towards me with your arms outstretched with chariots of fire playing in the background. After we had secretly done our gang signal or shown our henna tattoo, of course. :rotfl2:

I have to share this, if it even helps just one person...or makes someone think twice. I was driving home this afternoon and had merged onto the highway; two lanes had been shutdown due to construction. I had about a mile to go before the highway I was on split into two different highways so, I put on my directional to move over to the left. I had a car in front of me, a car in front to my left and a car behind to the left. Once I put my directional on the car from the back left sped up just enough so, that there was no room for me to merge in. As we approached the split, this car sped up so fast that I couldn't move over at all...it was too late to go to the right...the only thing ahead of me was the guardrail and the breakdown lane...and then an overpass. The roadrage that this driver to my left exhibited was completely unprovoked and his need to be ahead of me almost caused me to crash into the guardrail and it sickens me (literally) to think of what my outcome would have been. Today is my DD's bday...a possible proposal in two weeks during an amazing vacation planned to blend two families...this truly angry man has no idea how much devastation he potentially could have caused just because he needed to get in front of me. I just don't get it! Sorry to vent...today was truly a great day, until this occurred...and there is so much happiness on this board, especially today, since there are some of are starting their trips...but, I am so shaken up...for the obvious reason but, also because it saddens me that there are some truly mean people in the world.

:hug: I'm glad you're ok. I never understood why some people feel the need to be "first". And why they don't think about that huge, heavy chunk of metal they are driving could possibly kill someone, even themselves because of their shenanigans.

:( I'm glad you are ok. This thing happens around here all the time (I truly think it's a Northeast thing). I hate it. DH is a truck driver and people cut him off and are ignorant to him on a daily basis, they don't think about how much it takes to stop an 18 wheeler or that he might have a family to come home too, this is even scarier because he transports hazardous materials (ether, propane, asphalt). Uggh! I get so annoyed:furious: at people's lack of common courtesy.

I'm glad you're ok - physically at least :grouphug:

Some people are just idiots and are not thinking of anyone at all. When we lived in a more crowded area, we would joke that people were racing to the next stoplight. I always tell my kids that it's better to get there late than dead

At airport headed to Disney. Wdw today!!!!! And a quiet minute while husband takes kid. Luxury!

For those already there - any Bounce Backs? I was hoping for an RO by now but the last post I saw was for FD and only for Mods and Deluxes. And nothing yet for October at all.

I say that a lot.. People rushing to get to the next stop light 15 seconds before me.

I read about a study that was done, that showed the drivers that were speeding and weaving in and out of traffic don't get to their destination any faster than the car that is driving safely. Sometimes it even took them slightly longer (and I'm sure raised their blood pressure)

In the end, you're well and alive! That's what should be focused on because wasting any of your mind power or emotions on someone like that is already much more than deserved. The otherside of the coin is who knows what goes on in their lives that makes their behavior their "normal"? I'm glad your safe. :flower3:

Thanks for your kind words...trying to get through work so, we can pickup Chinese for DD's bday, light a fire and RELAX! DBF is in law enforcement so, he told me to call the State Police and report the plate number and that the driver was driving recklessly...they can't do anything about today but, at least if he does this to anyone else, it's on record that he did what he did, today. Just want you all to know what a pick me up this board is!!! I can't post alot...but, I lurk alot...and I LOVE reading everyone's posts! Again, thanks!:grouphug:

Well, today I found out that my dog needs a titanium implant in her knee- the surgery is tomorrow. It's also going to cost as much as my week at the YC. Suddenly, I don't feel so bad about splurging a little at Disney! But my Disney plans are all taking a backseat to my worries about the pooch. I just can't make her wait until we get back from Disney, but I'm going to worry about her the whole time we're gone.

Oh no! My dogs are some of the few things I love more than Disney, so I'm so sorry to hear about that! :worried: Poor pooch!! I hope she'll sail through it and be as good as new in no time.

I'd like to know this too! I'm trying to convince DBF that we'll need to go back next year.

TOTALLY agree. We had the same issues at the charter school I used to work for. So many of the middle and high school students had grown up around that kind of language they had absolutely no filter when speaking in the classroom. Most of them knew what constituted a swear word, and that they weren't appropriate in school, but they were just so used to that way of speaking it'd slip out of their mouths before they even realized it. It really says something not-so-great about the state of our society..........
