Parley....Will That Get Me On The Ship Any Faster part 2

Okay, since this will be my first time on a Disney ship, I will need to rely on those of you with prior DCL experience. Is there any sort of community bulletin board where I would be able to post a change in plans, if needed?

Not sure other than the Navigator. Can DCL put an announcement in the Navigator?

Or are you going to the Parleyer Meet at 3PM on the day we embark? If so, you can tell everyone then.

You could also use your stateroom door as a place to leave a post-it and we could all walk by to get the LAG info.

Just some ideas. :upsidedow

I just got word that Mass is on for Sunday at 9 AM. The location has been changed. Instead of the Buena Vista theater it will be in Rockin' Bar D. The BVT was unavailable. Believe it or not, I have said Mass in a ship's lounge before. It should be in the Navigator the night before.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

So, who is going to be the last Parleyer to post to the Meet thread before we embark? Will be fun to see who can get the final post before we get to the terminal. :surfweb:

Speaking of meet... can't wait to meet everyone. We don't have matching t-shirts or anything, but if you see someone knitting while waiting in the terminal, it will probably be me. :upsidedow

I know I won't be the one to turn out the "Parley Lights". I have only 8 hours and 5 minutes left of work and then we're outta here!:banana:

Oh no!!! :scared1: Rockin' Bar D, the site of Mikey's famous dance routine! :scared1:

I supposedly have 8 hours tomorrow, but I have a wonderful boss who will take pity on me and not push me too hard. Most of my co-workers have already given up on me.

I'm actually having lunch at Big River on Wed. with 2 of my co-worker/friends :yay: who will be down at the same time.

Is there any sort of community bulletin board where I would be able to post a change in plans, if needed? I'm actually hoping it won't be necessary. If I don't get an answer from DCL about a recommended location within the next day or so, I will just pick a spot on the ship for all of us to meet. By that time, I will already have had four nights to scour the decks in search of the ideal stargazing location. We can just meet in one spot and then caravan over to the actual stargazing site.

I'm just really hoping they get back to me soon with a suggestion, especially if they are going to turn the lights of for us. If not, then I will post a default meeting spot by tomorrow evening.

If you are on the upper deck we won't have any trouble finding you even if the location is moved.:thumbsup2 Now if you change the date and time and cruise date that might be a different story!:rotfl2: You won't be able to hide from all of us stargazers! :grouphug: We SO need this cruise! Husband is in Minneapolis this week and he said chance of snow.:scared1: Looking forward to meeting everyone!:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay

Safe travels to everyone traveling from out of town. We are taking Civic (aka Spud) car service!:lmao:

See you all at the port!:goodvibes

We've been to a nondenominal service in a bar before! Thank you so much for saying Mass. We hate to miss Mass so we always go on Saturday before we get on the boat (this year we will be at Mass in Cocoa Beach). It will be good to be able to go on Sunday morning also!

Thank you!

That would be great. We are not leaving for FL until Friday AM. I will be willing to meet you on board and pay you back. We really only need the smallest package available since it is for just in case. Please let me know. Otherwise, we'll just pick up regular Dramamine here. Thanks!

OK found the goods!! Chewable childrens Graval 12 pack $6.00 You want? I think I will get some for the girls just in case as well.

I hope everyone has safe travels to FL and to the ship!! Look forward to meeting everyone.

I unfortunately have to work through Friday. DH and DD are going to pick me up after work Friday and we are driving over.

I still haven't packed - off to start that now!!

See you all soon!!

I was going to make Castaway Cay 5K shirts but now having a hard time finding inexpensive short sleeve shirts even in Florida!!

Anyone make shirts for the run?

Hey that's my husband's plan!

Since we are new disers and no one knows us :confused3:confused3one way to find us at the port. We have early boarding and we usually bring our dvd player to catch up on shows but this cruise in honor of our new dis friends :grouphug:we are going to bring Young Frankenstein.:rotfl2: It's on the dresser ready to go!:cool1:

I am bringing a copy of young frankenstein that is on my laptop for easy viewing if that works... My laptop can be connected to any video display.

I forget... Was there a group interested in having a young frankenstien meet?

Suit yourself, I'm easy (just let me know when & where :))

I didn't make a shirt, but it has become tradition for me to wear the shirt from my previous race, so I will be wearing a black Music City Half Marathon shirt if I run the 5K. I really want to, but I can't remember what time my stingray feeding was, and I know we picked an earlier slot, because I have heard the Rays feed better in the morning. We fed them in Grand Cayman a few cruises ago, and you could tell they weren't all that interested! As long as it doesn't conflict, I will definitely do the 5K.

While your friend is right that ships are very, VERY brightly lit at night, at least it is only localized light pollution. Unlike most major metropolitan areas where the light pollution surrounds you for miles around, the ship's lights only affect its immediate vicinity. As long as we can find an area on the ship where we can block the light from one or two directions, we will be able to see plenty of the wonders of the night sky. And if DCL is, in fact, kind enough to accommodate my request to dim or extinguish the ship lighting in the immediate area of our event, that will make it all the more enjoyable.

Yes, yes, yes! Jupiter will be VERY visible for our stargazing event and nearly directly overhead. On a moonless, clear night here in the light-polluted Chicago suburbs a couple weeks ago, I was even able to make out its Galilean moons with the naked eye! Out in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, it should be even darker, and therefore easier to see details. And if you bring along a pair of binoculars or borrow someone else's, you should definitely be quite surprised with what you'll be able to see.

Even if the ship does not accommodate my request to dim some lights, we will still have darker skies than many people will have ever seen, especially if they are from major metro areas. Actually, the stars couldn't have been more in our favor. The night of the stargazing meet is the official New Moon for the current lunar cycle. Not only that, but the New Moon will have already set before sunset anyway. So, we'd be good even if it wasn't the New Moon!
My children are very excited about the stargazing. The stars at night in the Caribbean can be amazing, even if you don't know what you are looking at like me!
I'm picking up some good cigars tomorrow afternoon...so I need a head count of who would be in for some sort of late night cigar meet. Might have a couple of informal gatherings... I'll be out there almost every night. :cloud9:
so anyone is welcome to join me any time. :thumbsup2
I am up for at least one night, I don't smoke cigars too often any more, but on a cruise is a great place to indulge. That is the same thing I say about my um...adult beverages :cool1:

Finishing up some work on the FE's tonight, made our final big trip to the store tonight. Still a lot to do, but in 86 hours I will be FL bound and in 110 should be on the ship :worship:

On past Disney cruises, one of the DISers in a fairly central location volunteered to have a white board at their cabin to post messages. Everybody knew where to look for updates.

Thinking about daylight savings....do we turn the clocks back on Sunday?

Ooh la la...a FO

Daylight Saving Time doesn't end until 6 November.

If we change the clocks because of different time zones, they will put a special notice in your room along with your Personal Navigator (and the jewelry ads, the alcohol ads, the photography ads, etc.!). We've been on some cruises that changed the clocks based on the time zone; others maintained "ship time" (based on the departure port) the entire cruise - makes it kind of confusing if you're on a short tour and their clocks are different from the ships' clocks!

Heather, British Summer Time does October 30th, but Michael is right, US DST doesn't end to a week later. When we lived in the UK it was always weird that for a week each year, our time difference was less than it usually was.

I believe that someone stated that on the Eastern Caribbean this time of year, that we won't change on the ship, because the port countries do not observe DST, so in a sense EDT and Atlantic Standard time are already the same time.

Only two more wake-ups before we leave for Florida :)

 Happy Anniversary Robin & Mike!

I know it is still a week away, but I just looked at the forecast for St. Maarten & St. Thomas and it looks like rain is predicted? :sad2:

Who is packing the pixie dust?
