We will be heading down to Disney in a few days. My 70 year old mother is coming with us She usually comes to the park with us (we drive) and then takes the bus back to the resort after a few hours She has been having a lot of pain in her hips and just found out this week she needs a double hip replacement. The doctor gave her two prescriptions and told her they should help her get through the trip and when we get back they could figure out a timetable. We know we an get her a wheelchair in the parks if she needs it or she could head back to the pool to rest if she needs. Her big concern is walking from the car when we arrive. The doctor's secretary told her she does not qualify for a temporary handicap parking permit. Would Disney be able to give her anything to help with parking? We would ideally like to be able to park close and go in together, but if not I guess her best bet may be taking the bus and meeting up with us.

At MK, I would drop her off at Lost and Found. At AK, I would ask an attendant and drop off on sidewalk by handicap/AAA parking. At Epcot, I would think you could get pretty close to gate as well, if you asked a parking attendant. HS would be the only one where I don't think anything in parking lot is close, but maybe up at front of employee lot. The bus stops, at Epcot and AK are definitely farther than the handicap lots. I also think all the lots have drop off spots available. Some attendants are more accommodating than others. Good luck!

Usually, if you ask politely while parking, the CMs will allow you to park in the spot closest to the tram pickups. The disabled lot @ TTC is NOT a good choice unless you have your own mobility device. That being said, since you have your own car, you could rent a manual wheelchair from offsite. That would give you the use of the chair @ your resort, in the parks, at Downtown Disney, and wherever else you needed one.

There are reserved spaces at every row right next to the trams. Asking a Parking CM can get you one of these.

Do not park in the medical parking lots, no matter what a CM tells you. These lots are all patrolled by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and they love to hand out the $250 tickets.

Also, I would contact the DMV as I think that she may be entitled to a temporary permit, no matter what the secretary says; it is what you doctor says which is important. Here is a link to the DMV Form 644.1 which is needed. http://www.dmv.ny.gov/forms.htm#mv6641
