Parkhopper to AP upgrade question

I've never seen this question specifically addressed but have read between the lines a little and want to see if I have this straight, and if I do understand the process, if it is the best way to go.

My family of four will be spending five days at Disneyworld within a one year period of time so the AP wouldn't make sense for us. I believe I can buy a 10 day pass with the no expiration option and keep the additional five days which I won't use this year until we take our next trip to Disneyworld which will be over one calendar year in the future.

If I'm on track so far, can I then upgrade the 10 day parkhopper pass to an AP on the 10th day of admission with our DVC AP discount? And, even if this is allowed, would it be the most economical way to go? :confused3

All upgrades must be done within 14 days of the first use of the MYW ticket. So your proposed plan will not work.

I knew that there had to be something wrong with what I was hoping for. Thanks for the clarification.

Forgot to say that when you upgrade, the AP (or PAP) is backdated to the first day the MYW ticket was used.

Added this in case anyone else was wondering.

HI what's the advantage of trading in a park hopper at the end of your stay for an AP??

Thanks.

I think if you purchase your park hopper pass with a discount, you still get full value of the pass as credit toward upgrade to a AP.

Yes - that is correct. There is also another thread on the DIS board; I'll look for the link and post it for you.
We just took advantage of upgrading to the DVC AP from a 6 day NE Park Hopper (purchased through the Mousesaver's link to Undercover Tourist); just be careful to know the $$ amount your upgrade SHOULD be -
we had no problem upgrading our tickets at DD guest relations; however, at MK, they wanted to charge us the quite a bit more in order to accomplish our upgrade. (The total cost was $14.91 per ticket for us to upgrade to DVC AP)
The MK CM wanted us to pay $98; an Epcot CM tried to tell us we would owe $213, but when I asked her to check again and that the amount should be in $14.91, she realized that I was correct.

:surfweb: Just be aware the amount you really should be charged; otherwise, you may pay too much for the upgrade.
