Parker Brothers on the High Seas - 3 Day Wonder 11/5/09 (LOTS of pics!) UPDATED 12/6

I'm loving your trip report. BTW I was the one you responded to about the late seating and it is good to put a face with the poster. You have convinced my husband to do the beer tasting if it is offered. Sounds like a great deal. I do have one question though. Do you need lanyards? I'm not totally sure why and if you do need them does everybody need one? I remember when we were planning our first trip to WDW last year I had read about them but we never got them and never needed them. I just make my husband hold everything. ;)

You will hear people sing their praises (lanyards that is). I dont know, personally we didn't feel we needed them. If your DH is the type to always take his wallet places (like Tom and I) then it is just as easy (for us anyway) to just chuck the key cards in there.

I will say, everywhere you go you do need your cards, be it off the ship, kids to the teen club/kids clubs, to buy drinks, to buy souvenirs on board, to hand to the photographers when you get your pic taken, so you really do need to have at least 1 with you at all times. That being said, we still never had a need for a lanyard. Combine that with the fact that we bought 4 of them, and the very next time we cruise disney is going to just give us ones for being in the castaway club. So take all of that fwiw, but looking back on OUR trip, buying lanyards (let alone 4) was pretty silly. :confused3

Also, on the beer tasting you can (and prob should) make reservations in advance. We were lucky they had spots available still, but that may not always be the case. So if you want it, book it early online and you can always cancel as the trip draws near if need be. Thats what we'll do next time, and yes, we plan it doing it again even if we HAVE already tasted everything. :rotfl2:

So glad I stumbled on your TR! Love it! It is great for first time cruisers on the Wonder. We sail in two weeks! Glad your family was able to have fun on Nassau day despite the wind. We currently have a glass bottom boat tour booked. I've been considering canceling it for several reasons. Do you know if any excursions were cancelled because of the wind? Love your shirt the first day. Not only is your TR informative but very funny. It's not often I find myself laughing outloud while reading TRs but I've done it a lot reading yours. DH keeps giving me strange looks.

Lol, well thanks for the kind words. Yes we were lucky in Nassau. Once we got into town the wind wasn't bad at all. Guess the buildings blocked it? But then again I've been in the middle of times square and the buildings just funnel the wind. You hit a cross street and think you stumbled into the the wizard of oz. lol So, who knows? But yes, we had a good time.

I don't recall any excursions in nassau being cancelled although they may have been informing guests as they met up, in which case I wouldn't know.

On Castaway Cay day they cancelled parasailing, all jet ski tours, and a couple others (i remember seeing 4 things on the boards).

ok, so where were we?

Ah yes, the brewhounds returned. :lmao:

So once tom and I had eaten half a cow each, we rounded up the group and headed back to the rooms to get ready for the show.

Look, FE Presents!
13767_1277341741271_1461812431_786788_2282071_n.jpg

We had gotten some literally as soon as we had gotten on board, and some the first day as well but forgot to take pics. :sad2: But This being our first cruise, obviously it was our first FE and it was too cool. Really made heading back to your room a treat rather than a chore, or an abrupt end to your day. We sat up each night waiting for room service :rotfl2: and checking out our "goodies". By some cruise standards I guess our group was pretty small, 16 or 17 cabins I believe. But we all had a great time doing the FE and we'll definitely be doing it again. Some have PM'd me asking about our FE itself. We didnt make it. We bought it on Ebay. The woman is great and lets you pick everything from fabrics and colors to which mickey heads you want, and what you want up top. Some people are crafty, we are not lol. We read the no-sew directions here on the dis, went to A.C. Moore (a local craft store) and had everything in our cart, then when we started adding we realized for about another 8-$10 we could get this one from ebay made by someone who knows what they are doing lol. Since we plan to cruise again and this is something we know we'll use over and over, we decided it was a small price to pay to have it from now on. So we put everything back and came home and hopped on Ebay. ;)

Earlier in the day, DW had left a note for Walter our stateroom host for another tube of the body wash (her and dd loved it) and perhaps another dcl pen (the kids both wanted one to have) if he possibly could, but if not no biggie. Well, Walter hooked us up with more spa stuff, a handful of pens, and more stationary. (needless to say we took good care of my man Walter)

So we got ready for the show and we headed out to the atrium.
It was pirate night, but my 4 had decided not to do anything "piratey" this time around. We looked at costumes online, and a few places with cool t-shirts, but we never got around to ordering anything and then decided to see what it's like the first time around and maybe next time we'd go all out. Tom's gang had some pirate stuff from past WDW trips, shirt and ears and such and wore those. So we all played it a little low key this time around.

There were some character meet and greets going on so we stopped for just a couple.

Captain Jack:

Pirate Minnie:

Becca and Minnie:

The line for pirate Mickey was just too darn long and they closed it off. It's ok as we had met pirate Mickey in WDW during the Pirate and Princess party a few times in Years gone by.

We made our way to the theater and the Toy Story Show. This was our favorite show of the trip. FANTASTIC is all I can say. It is really well done, and put together nicely. The two girls (yes girls) that play Andy and Sid are amazing. They really play good parts and sing very well. My favorite song in the whole show was the claw song. Every time I hear the background singers with the real low "The Claw" I crack up.

Not quite sure what I am talking about? Well fellow dis board member inkkognito, veteran of 70 disney cruises to date has posted some videos and these links are being shared with her permission.

We thought the show was great, and before we knew it it was time to head for dinner...:cool1:

Dinner this night was at Parrot Cay. On the 3 day they do not do the Pirate Menu and just go with the standard menu. No complaints from us. This was BY FAR the BEST dinner we had on board. Everyone has their favorites, but as we "polled the group" all 8 of us picked PC as our favorite dinner. Everything was just fantastic.

Now to what you really want to see, the food. :thumbsup2

Mamacita and I had the Baked Crab Dip Martinique:

13767_1277342021278_1461812431_786794_6154936_n.jpg

It rocked. Very very good.

Mikey had the Jamacain Marinated Chicken Tenderloin

13767_1277342061279_1461812431_786795_1898994_n.jpg

Becca chose a salad as an appetizer, and then we all had the Cold Cream of Mango and Papaya Soup:
13767_1277342101280_1461812431_786796_6107624_n.jpg

The soup was great. Everything was. Some people have said they think PC is a little corny, or like eating in the tiki room at wdw. Well, we actually LIKED that fact. We really enjoyed the tropical feel, the background music, and the limbo that all the servers did when it was "showtime".

For our entree, it was unanimous. All four of us got the Island Spiced Grilled Rib-Eye of Beef Topped with handmade spiced Butter, Corn on the Cob and Double – baked potato.

13767_1277342141281_1461812431_786797_5892876_n.jpg

OMG. The meat tasted wonderful, the spiced butter was very good, and baked potato? Hey, I'm from Jersey fuhgeddaboudit. lol They were great, nice and cheesy. I had serious thoughts of asking Brenton to bring a plate with 2 or 3 more baked potatoes on it, but glad I didn't as I needed room for dessert. ;)

Did he mention dessert? Yes he did.

For dessert, as always, I couldn't pick just one. So why pick? lol I had the
French Toast Banana Bread With Coconut Ice-Cream and Caramel Sauce.

13767_1277342181282_1461812431_786798_7292096_n.jpg

The coconut ice cream? OMG (again lol). If you are a fan of coconut, this rocked. It wasn't just coconut flavored, it had pieces of coconut all through it!:yay:

I also got the Chocolate S`More Vanilla Cake. Crackling Marshmallow Crust on Vanilla Cake filled with Chocolate, served with Duche De Leche Sauce.

13767_1277342221283_1461812431_786799_1513859_n.jpg

Wow is all I can say about that. Very good.

(in case you haven't figured it out by now, I am copying the names and descriptions from the DCL website as I forgot the exact names of some things)

Mikey had the Lemon Meringue Pie On Kumquat Sauce.

13767_1277342261284_1461812431_786800_1956831_n.jpg

Mary and Becca had the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake.

They said it was out of this world. I will take their word for it. Funny thing about women and Cheesecake. No one has ever gotten a picture to prove the cheesecake actually exists. Just like Bigfoot. :rotfl2:

So we had a great conversation this night with Brenton and Andrew, about their homes and families. We lingered over dinner a bit as we just loved this one. We probably could have rushed a little and been on deck for the start of the Pirate party, but we still only missed about 5-10 minutes of it.

So after dinner, it was up to deck 10 for the pirate party...

We got up to deck 10 and there was some singing and dancing going on.

13767_1277342301285_1461812431_786801_3063303_n.jpg

Boy was it WINDY! (again). People were holding onto their pirate hats and not wearing them, it was dark as heck, and you couldn't really see much other than the stage and the giant screen, which is all you're supposed to see at that point anyway lol.

My point? Well if I had spent $400 on costumes it would have been a bit of a waste. I understand some people do it for the sake of doing it, or for their pictures that night, and that's cool. To each their own. I'm just pointing out my observations and maybe next time we'd do t-shirts or something, but I can't see a full blown costume in our future, but for those who do, great.

I do like being on deck at night, as just with the parks, everything becomes a little more magical when it's all lit up:

13767_1277342341286_1461812431_786802_624802_n.jpg

We got to see Pirate Mickey and then it was time for the fireworks. My cam sucks taking pics of fireworks, but here's the "not-so-bad" ones. lol

13767_1277342421288_1461812431_786804_3988266_n.jpg

After the fireworks, we all walked down to deck 9 and then right inside as it was getting really windy.

Notice anything missing? We didn't at the time. We were home in NJ a good 4-5 days and suddenly I remembered and said to Mary "Hey, we never DID do the pirate buffet." Nope, we didnt even see it. Not that we missed it, we were full from dinner. But we DID end up ordering food from room service around 1am, so it would have been nice to check out the buffet and see what was there. Maybe, take something back to the room for later? Oh well, next time.

After the fireworks we ducked inside and took the elevator down to the shops and did our nightly shopping routine. After shopping, Justin was feeling a little tired so Tom and the gang headed back to their room. We deided to go explore a little.

We headed out onto deck 4 for a little evening stroll.
13767_1277342541291_1461812431_786807_5540639_n.jpg

Hey, who's that guy smuggling a beach ball under his shirt?

13767_1277342501290_1461812431_786806_1760422_n.jpg

Detail on the wooden benches on deck 4. Nice!
13767_1277342461289_1461812431_786805_2160838_n.jpg

If I go over, they're gonna need a MUCH bigger ring. :lmao:
13767_1277342581292_1461812431_786808_2449447_n.jpg

We saw a jogger making his rounds, and were intrigued. We knew you could go all the way around deck 4, but just where does it go? So we took a walk.

Walking toward the bow on Deck 4:
13767_1277342621293_1461812431_786809_28490_n.jpg

Up front we found the winches (sp?) for the anchors, and they also store a jet ski and some type of motorized raft looking thing up there.
13767_1277342661294_1461812431_786810_968415_n.jpg

After our stroll we went back into deck 4 and took a couple lobby pics:

We called it a night and headed back to our room. More FE goodies, and Walter had left us another animal. This time a puppy:

13767_1277342821298_1461812431_786814_1990391_n.jpg

This was both nice, and a little sad, as we missed our puppy. Mama had a hard time leaving him for a week. We have an Italian Greyhound named (what else) Mickey. See? (this was the day we brought him home from the breeder, he is 1yr old now)
3297_1126971222102_1461812431_328831_4658691_n.jpg

And here is his pics with santa (at petsmart) taken this week, he wanted lots of presents so he gave santa kisses and knocked his glasses off lol.

So, we missed our "puppy wuppy" as DW calls him, so of course she had to call petsmart and their "doggie hotel" to check on him. lol

All in all it was a great day.

Nassau? If you've never been I say go for it and get off the ship. Next time we may or may not, who knows. But it's worth it just to check it out once. Beer tasting? do it! Parrot Cay and Toy Story Musical? Our Favorites.

That pretty much sums it up.

Tomorrow is Castaway Cay.

Will post more later. :hippie:

I found your trip report today and it got me so excited because we are doing the 3 day Wonder next week! Great job on your report- great pictures and what a great family. Thanks for sharing.

I have been reading for over an hour! thanks so much for posting, and all the pics.going on a 5 night double dip in June and this is getting me so excited for our first DCL cruise!

Thanks. Thats the goal, to get you all excited. I know I was real excited reading tr's and looking at pics before we went, so thought I'd return the favor. ;)

Your TR just keeps me excited about my upcoming trip! Question about the beer tasting. How many ounces were those samples? I am used to the samplers you get at breweries and there nothing like the ones posted on your TR. My DH and I wouldn't mind trying it but we need to be able to FUNCTION afterwards.:)

We probably won't be able to do this but could he and I share a sampler? What I mean is pay for one but we both go and share.

I think you would both need to buy a ticket to attend. That being said, I did not drink all of my samples (tom finished them lol) and I saw others that drank maybe 1/2 of most of them, except for their favorite or 2 favorites which they finished. So no one holds a gun to your head to finish them all. As for a guess on the sample sizes? They didnt say, but the one pic of tom with the glasses gives you a better perspective on size. I would say since the glasses are tall and thin, maybe 8oz? But I have no way of knowing if that is right. :confused3

I have to say I absolutely love reading your trip report! We have been on this same cruise 3 times and are getting ready for our 4th in Feb. Seeing your pics brings back great memories for us. Thanks and keep it coming.:thumbsup2

Subscribing! Great report... Love the humor.:goodvibes Looking forward to reading the rest.

Oh, what a fun time I have had reading your report~!! I love it, and can't wait to hear the rest of the story~!!
