I was under the impression that park reservations weren't required. I looked at tickets online for this spring and was instructed to pick a date and ticket could only be used on that date. I was hoping to take a break from WDW's restrictive (IMHO) booking policies but it seems to not be the case. Am I missing something?

Park reservations aren't required to my knowledge. I'm using a group rate ticket (going with our dance studio) and we can use it anytime the week we purchased it for.

UO went to date-based pricing back in Aug 2020. You don't need a reservation per se but if you pick a date, the ticket pricing will be cheaper than if you purchase a ticket with flexible dates that can be used any time. The flex date ticket will be the most expensive option but you can then go on what ever date you you want.
