Park Pet Peeves

Walk to the RIGHT.

It's just like driving a car (in America) or taking the stairs in elementary school.

The center is the passing lane so to speak.

I hate it when you're walking and someone going against the flow walks up then acts all offended because they meet you head on. I never give them the lecture (my grade school teacher giving us the walk to the right in the hall one), but I also don't get out of their way. If you're going to walk on the left then you can darn well move around me buddy.

Yikes...I am one of those foot toilet flushing people!

My only Disney pet peeve is people in food lines who can't decide what to order when it is their time.

Oh and omen in flops San pedicure. If you are going to bare those twinkly toes...paint and trim them nails!

I'm not a foot guy at all but sometimes your standing in line and you look down and :scared1: It's like a wreck. You can't look away.

Keeping the stroller theme.. People who lean on my stroller at parades, on the ferry boat, in the stroller parking areas, etc. It's lazy, rude, and my stroller isn't strong enough to support you anyway!

This seriously happens? Really? I have never in my life thought of doing such a thing. How weird! :sad2:

OMG does that drive me nuts. The only thing that makes it worse is when they are walking directly towards you but looking soomewhere else.

I don't like when people (usually men) encounter a large crowd that's barely moving and they start yelling directions. I actually had a guy yell "Everyone walk to the right, just like you're supposed to, keep walking" right next to my ear. He was so loud and obnoxious and guess what? He didn't make a dent in the crowd. Big crowds move slowly. If you want to move fast, don't put yourself in a crowded spot. You don't get to watch Wishes from Libery Square then dash out to the front of the park in 5 minutes when it's over.

Changed my mind, not a "Park"-related rant.

Thank goodness...I thought I was the only one that was obsessive enough to have that bother me. We as a culture have always been taught to stay to the right in travel lanes. I could never understand why people didn't always just automatically go there, then I realized not everyone was raised in this culture. If you're from England or India or Japan (and others) your culture would be to the left. Since realizing that, I have been much more tolerant of that situation. However, if you say...Hey ya'll get your pea pickin' butt out of my way...then I am unforgiving. :rotfl:

1) Loading handicapped folks onto busses. It takes way too long and throws off my scheduling. Plus they always seem so entitled.

2) People who stop in the middle of the road scratching their head and looking absolutely clueless. I mean how difficult is it to stand over to the side instead of being rude to people trying to walk.

3) People who cut in line trying to catch up to their loved ones. Sorry folks, not happening. You either get in line behind everyone else or wait for your loved ones out front.

4) People who go to the parks without showering or putting on deodorant. Folks, if you're not going to respect others, at least respect yourself enough to take care of your body.

When I read the 1st item my immediate reaction was..oh, goody this is going to be one of those done in jest, sarcastic posts. Then I read the rest of them and realized the you were serious. It left me at a lost for words. You cannot possibly be complaining about it taking too long to put a person in a wheelchair on a bus and "inconveniencing" your schedule, can you? You can't be standing there without any handicaps and being resentful of them can you? Really? Remind me to cross you off my Christmas list!

For some reason, I always get stuck parking next to the family that has 200 people in their minivan. Without fail, every trip. Which is fine, except when they get out of the car, the entire group huddles around the door while everyone else gets out. Meanwhile, I'm stuck sitting in MY car, while it's 90 degrees out, staring at these people until they decide to be considerate enough to let me out.

My DBF tells me I shouldn't get so mad about people at the 'world, but I just can't help it. People can be so inconsiderate in a place where everyone else is just trying to have a good time.
:rotfl2: I laughed so hard at this post, thats HILARIOUS! LMAO! The same thing happened to me a few times....you know what i do? I open the door a crack and shout out "EXCUSE ME, its pretty hot in here" or something to that effect. LOL! :lmao:

I hate the parents who put kids on their shoulders for fireworks, parades, etc. There is nothing more frustrating than standing on Main St and the minute the lights go down for Wishes all the kids go up on shoulders. It makes it impossible to see anything and it just plain rude!!
Yup. Very rude. Cant stand it.

And heeeeere we go.

Disney does not = kids. Disney is for EVERYONE. Full stop. And while that kid is on dad's shoulders, what of all the other CHILDREN who now can't see because junior is perched on high? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

MY pet peeve is people who are under the false assumption that Disney is just for kids. :thumbsup2
I agree with this 100%. Very inconsiderate.

People pushing strollers who think they deserve the space more than you.

ECV drivers who think they deserve the space more than you.

People that crowd me in line. Unless you're my DH, I don't want you breathing down my neck and it will NOT make the line (or me) move faster. It will only earn you a "get the heck away from me" look. :headache:
I agree. I get so annoyed when ppl are so close behind me. Hate it. If its bad, I ask them to move back.

People who stand in line for 10 minutes at a cs restaurant and then wait until they get to the front of the line to decide what they want. So then they take another 5 or 10 minutes trying to figure out what everyone in their group wants, while the rest of us have to wait on them.

Decide before you step up to the register. Its not that hard of a concept.
This irritates me like you wouldnt believe. I dont get what you were doing in line the whole time while your waiting?

I was just reading about this in a magazine. those who don't want to sit on the seat, and "hover" but leave a, um, "sprinkling" mess.

Or those who line the rim with tissue, but leave it for the next person to "dispose of".! sheesh!
Why do women do this? WHY!? Very disgusting and rude. If you tinkle, wipe it!

I agree. 2, 3, 4 are hilarious. Lol! Although I think some ppl really cant help the body odor bit. I use to work with someone like that. He always stunk no matter how many showers he had. He finally started using strong cologne all the time, and it was better. I guess. Lol.

And RE: scooters, I think the design of the buses are terrible for ECVs cause it takes so long for some drivers to buckle 'em in...or maybe its just some of the drivers who need more training, cause some of them do take long, while others zip thru it so quickly. Go figure.

I actually had to go back and reread this post to make sure that I had really read it correctly. EXCUSE ME??? I am SO SORRY if loading my mother and her chair onto the bus makes you 2 minutes late for your destination!!

I just know that you didn't intend for your post to be as ignorant, arrogant, obnoxious, selfish and self-centered as it turned out to be. Do you have even the tiniest idea of how offensive your statement was?

PLEASE tell me #1 was meant in jest. If not, uncool. Super uncool.

Now while i think he meant that in jest or was may be he's way out of line but there are situations where it’s true. In general no one should have a problem waiting for people to be loaded properly ect… But there was this one time i was staying at shades of green, and a guy with a broken leg on an ECV was in the smoking area smoking. The shades buses get there pretty early and sit there for 15-30 minutes sometimes. Most people board the bus early and patiently wait for it to leave and the guy on the ECV lights up another one and continues to smoke. Now it’s time for the bus to leave the driver closes the door and here comes the ECV guy wanting to be loaded, the driver comes out loads the guy on straps it down and everything and the bus ends up leaving 10 minutes late. In this situation I think the ECV driver was rude and held up an entire bus because he wanted to smoke. While I do not envy anyone who needs a device like that to be mobile, it’s still possible for them to be rude.

If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie, wipe the seatie.

YUP, good point. I've also seen this myself, many times! its VERY rude! And let me tell you, it ticks me off.

Exactly. I'm not picking my kid up to block your view. I'm picking my kid up so they CAN view. I'm not doing it to block your view. If you feel that way, oh well. The fireworks are in the sky. My kid may not be more important that you (although in my eyes they always will be) but you are not more important that them either.
Done debating it. For anyone criticizing me helping my child get a view, deal with it. I don't and won't feel bad helping my kid. If you have a problem then YOU get their early enough to be in the front. I'm 5'9" and am stuck behind 6'3". Maybe they should just stand by the gate so MY view never gets block. Get real.

You're stuck behind someone 6 inches taller than you, so that entitles you to put a kid on your shoulders and make the combination a foot or two taller than those behind you. And those right behind you should be fine with a combo of two people a foot or two taller than them right in front of them because after all the fireworks are in the sky when you weren't comfortable behind someone just 1/2 a foot taller than you watching those same fireworks in the same sky. Perhaps you should take your own advice and YOU deal with it rather than expecting those behind you to deal with a two foot obstruction when you couldn't deal with a 1/2 foot one.

i think you should have to pass a test before you can drive a ECV

Tell you what -- I'll that test the day all TAB people are also tested on their ability to share a crowded part with ECVs and strollers. Fair's fair, if I have to pass a test to be allowed to enter WDW, so should you.

A certain amount of problems are caused by people (walkers, riders, and stroller pushers) who simply oblivious to the whole world, and a small amount by people not experienced in using ECVs. But from what I have seen, the majority of collisions are caused by the natural tendency of people in masses to act like herd animals.

My theory, which is mine, is based on observations of herds: cattle, horses, and people in crowds. Each individual has a certain distance they prefer to maintain from those around them, although they tend to be closer to those in their own party and maintain a further distance to others outside their party. As the area gets more crowded, they subconsiously are aware of more people around them and they tend to contract the size of their party, moving closer together. As they percieve more space opening up around them, they tend to spread their party out more. This is how large groups of people can flow around and intermingle with few collisions and apparently no-one being aware of anyone around them. (People in New York are Grand Masters at this, and people in Tokyo seem to have this down to a fine art.)

Now, mind, they are not doing this consiously. It's more a matter of what you see out of the corner of your eye and calculations made in the back of your head as you try to keep an eye on your children, or look at the map, or watch the scenery around you, or figure out where to go next. The problem is, people's perceptions of those around them tend to be based on their own eye level. Which means that small children, strollers, and ECVs don't register.

Typically strollers and small children have adults with them to mitigate the perception, although some people will still walk into them. I have also noticed I have fewer problems when I am with a party of walkers. However, I alone in my ECV are perceived, subconsiously, by most people as a big hole opening up near them, and they tend to spread out a little, resulting in people drifting sideways until they are right in front of me.

People in ECVs quickly learn that we must be vigilent at all times. You can walk and eat a turkey leg, or watch the scenery, but we can't. We must be watching all the time for someone who doesn't see us and walks in front of us. Granted, it is our responsibility to be aware of those around us, but we are human too. We get distracted, we are looking at all the wonder of Disney around us, we get into conversation with others in our party. Walkers must bear some of the responsiblity as well, to be aware of what's around them. Bear in mind that ECVs don't stop on a dime. They do have a type of brake when the rider releases the lever, but we can't just slam on the brakes to avoid a collision.

The most frustrating thing is to be behind a party that is walking very slowly and occasionally pausing. As other walkers come up on them, their party will usually contract to make room to let pass, without anyone even noticing what's going on. However, they don't see me at all, they don't contract to let me pass. My options are to poke along behind them at a much slower rate than most people, or say "Excuse me!" to try to pass, and get glared at and comments made about how entitled I am. All I'm asking for is the same courtesy you give others, it's just that you have to be a little more aware of your surroundings.
