Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

My Son will be graduating in 2017. He has taken the Sat's once, but will be taking them again in a few months. Also Senior Portraits are scheduled for late in August. This ought to be a fun ride for both him and his Mom and Dad this upcoming school year.

My Dd goes to a private school and a parent there is a psychologist and as a "give back" to the community he offered to do a 2 hour test eval on anyone interested. DD sure was. It was fascinating, it really was. Nailed her personality down perfectly and offered job career ideas along with tons of info on each one. I think if someone paid for this it had to have been 400.00. So detailed. At any rate, very much worth her time b/c the fields she tested best for were exactly the ones she expressed interest in over the years so at least that was some validation that you might be good at what you like.

Wow that is excellent opportunity for her!

Waiting on the June SATs. DS just took his on the 4th.
And his senior portraits were yesterday. Sigh....

I assume that's out of 1600. That's a fantastic score. My dd got an equivalent score on the old SAT (including a perfect math score) and was adamant that she was one and done. Why we're you pushing your son to taking the ACT if he did so well on the SAT? Just curious.
This was the old SAT and he too, got a perfect on the math! We just thought, since the ACT is usually a bit easier, what if he did even better on the ACT. Doesn't hurt to try to put yourself in an even higher category.

Tomorrow are my daughters senior pictures. They took them in school in April but you had the choice to go to the studio instead for the same price so rather than take them in the middle of the school day with a 15 minute sitting we are going to the studio, all freshly done up for a 1 hour sitting.

I get that. I wanted my dd to take the ACT or the new SAT but she's refusing. She knows the consequences might be not getting into her 1st choice or not getting enough merit aid to go there. She's ok with her decision so I'm not making my life miserable to try to force her. She got just over a 2200 so there really isn't a huge amount she could improve anyway.

Also ordered DS class ring this week. Between photos and ring it's been an expensive couple of weeks!

The ACT is out. I'm very happy with it considering that my DD didn't study.

Her composite score went up 2 points. Her English remained the same, her Math went up 3 points, her Reading went up 5 (! it was really bad before and still isn't great) points, her science went up 2 points and her STEM went up 3 points.

It still needs to go up another 3-4 points for her to be competitive but she's now at the lower acceptable ACT for the colleges she's interested in.

Congrats to both your DDs on their awesome improvements!

My DS's score is not posted yet. I guess more scores will be posted on Friday and next Wed. Really hoping for this Friday at this point.

Dd finally finished her junior year today. Her yearbook proofs came in yesterday and they're really nice. She has a chouce of 6 for the yearbook. We're going to have candids taken over the summer for family.

She had an amazing year grade wise - perfect for it being her junior year. It also looks like she'll be a national merit commended scholar. Now for the ap score

Got ACT scores back- she went up one point. Last night she went to senior prom with a guy that asked her- now just waiting on report card and regents grades- last test was Tuesday and school over then but probably wont get report card grades and test grades until next week. Graduation is tomorrow and kids were finding out today if they passed the required regents and classes for them to graduate tomorrow! Took senior pics last Thursday so should have proofs next week. Then just have to wait until July for AP scores!

DD got a letter from a private college (one I went to for 2 years) that says she can apply for no fee and no essay, answer in 2 weeks and automatic consideration for scholarships. We haven't even visited any colleges but we're mainly looking at 2 smaller state universities and possibly the local CC. I figure a private college is going to be too expensive. I know my package at this college was really good for my freshman year at least but DD's ACT is 7 points lower than mine. So, should she go ahead and apply even though it's not likely she'll choose to go there?

AP scores are out. Hope everyone did well. My dd is pleased with her scores and has racked up some nice college credit or placement out of entry classes.
