Whats your opinion on a facial for a 13 yo girl? Bad idea or good?Is that too young? Ive heard sometimes the face gets irritated afterwards. How long does that last? How much would one cost?
As you can tell, Ive never had one. My niece is turning 13 in about a month and she wants one. I thought that would be a cool gift for me to give her(Im the cool aunt, LOL!), but my sister isnt too thrilled about the idea.
Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

And CAP2000, if you are reading this, dont worry. I wont get her one unless you decide its ok.:p

I think it's a great idea! That is the age when they start having problems with their skin, and a good skin care specialist will instruct your niece on her particular kind of skin and how to take care of it.

As far as cost goes, it would depend on the salon. I've seen them anywhere from $25 on up.

(by the way, my skin wasn't irritated at all, but if you were concerned you could talk to the specialist)

I would shop around and choose carefully if you do this.....yes I agree that it is good for a 13 yr old to be instructed on caring for her skin and it would feel like a grown up treat for her ....but if there's also going to be a sales pitch for her to buy a lot of overpriced skin care items when she's done, your sister might not appreciate that part ;) Perhaps you can find a place that caters to young gilrs or something.

My stepdaughter gave DD a gift certificate to a spa/salon type place when she turned 15 and then again last Xmas....DD initially wanted a facial but after lookign through the options and price list, she ended up choosing a "body polish" the first time (I told her I'd steam her in the tub and scrub her with a loofah and then rub nice lotion all over her for a lot less $$ hehehe) and a "sports massage" the second time ---she loves the place! :)

A lot of spas, etc. offer facials for girls that age, so you may look for one that's actually geared towards her age group :)

I think that's a great idea! For the reasons already stated, that is a perfect age to start learning good skin care habits.

As far as irritation, that really depends on the type of skin your neice has. If she needs some extractions, she may end up with some red, irritated places for a few days, but that will go away in a day or so. But for this reason, I would never schedule a facial on the same day that I was going somewhere later and wanted to look especially nice.

I was going to give my dd a day of beauty when she turned 14 this past summer, but she decided to redo her room and I paid for some of that instead. I think it's a great idea, besides the practical part of it (learning proper skin care)..I think it would go a long way into building up self esteme. At that age girls don't always have alot of confidence in themselves and being treated so special can't help but give them a boost.

I think it would be a really fun gift. And I think having her aunt do it with her would be even more fun. :)

I used a manicure as a special present when DD turned 13. This way she learned how to take good care of her nails.

CAMCOLT IS SUCH A COOL AUNT! IM JUST AFRAID SHE WILL GET USED TO THE SPECIAL TREATMENT AND WANT IT ALL THE TIME.:D
