at 4 mine were all in the 30s. my eldest is 7 (8 in feb) and just hit 50lbs finally, but he's very lean, one of the lightest kids in his class. his brother (5, will be 6 in march) is 44lbs, heavier than his brother at the same age.
Well, at 4 my youngest weighed 35 lbs and the middle weighed 33 lbs. I don't remember their heights. At 7 youngest currently weighs about 42 lbs - he's @47 inches and at 9 middle weighs 60 at @51 inches.
So your DS is definitely heavy on the height to weight ratio but is he chubby and bubbly or muscley?
And truthfully I don't know if I would put too much credibility in those charts if they are working off of BMI.
To put it in perspective for you Oldest DS is 5'2" and weighs 125 and he is a little chubby and wears a husky jean but is definitely not huge I've seen kids who are much much bigger. BUT because of BMI he's considered obeseNow DS and I are the same height and he now weighs what I weighed when I got married and I wore a size 10 wedding dress that they took in so what's obese about that
.
I have girls, so I'm sure its different, but my 5.5 yr old is 46" and 45 lbs. My 8 yr old is 50" and 46 lbs (she's a stick though).
He wakes up hungry, and it's the first thing he says in the morning. He does like a variety of foods and fruits, not big on veggies but likes beans and veggie burgers. I try to only buy the Flavored waters instead of juice and give 1% or Skim milk, but he likes more than just one glass. I was thinking maybe he'd be having a growth spurt. When I hear the word obese I don't think that about him I guess. Here's a pic from July at WDW:

OP he looks a bit overweight but I wouldn't classify him as obese!!!
Denae - he was 9 pounds at birth and has always been big (broad shoulders) and a little off the charts in weight. He is a lot bigger than other kids in his pre-school and is one of the youngest. If he was 40 pounds he would seem too thin to me.
My almost 9 year old weighs 78 pounds.
I think your Dr. is going by the BMI chart..
Here's your son's results:
A 4 year old (male) child
who is 55 pounds
and is 3 feet and 7 inches tall has
a body mass index of 21.0,
which is over the 95th percentile,
and would indicate that your child is overweight.
The problem though with this thinking is that muscle weighs moe than fat. So children who are muscular tend to make it in the high percentages.
Boys do thicken before growth spurts. I would try to make good choices for him. Flavored water is just as bad as soda pop. Limit his juice to 100% juice, one serving per day. Water it down make it more if he feels that it is not enough. Keep pushing water. Don't deprive him of snacks, but watch what you are giving him.
And since you said he is hungry all the time, definetely give more water, and 3 glasses of milk (8oz). Push crunchy veggies. And definetly get at least an hour of vigurous play time every day.
Most of off here is a. The dr. has no bedside manners. Your son may stay that way his whole life, so instead of putting him down (as in the dr, not you) teach him all the valuable tools he will need.
