Hi! My husband has never had any interest in cruises,
unfortunately for me. But recently he saw something on TV
about Atlantis (Paradise Island, Bahamas) and all of a sudden
he's thinking we should plan a trip there for our 30th anniversary
(January 2004). I haven't gotten much information yet on
how to get there, but I noticed that a couple of on-shore
activities include a trip to Atlantis, etc. Can anyone elaborate
on how that all works out in the overall scheme of a Disney
cruise? I don't know much about cruises...we're just starting
to investigate...but I have plenty of time before 2004 to learn!

We will be cruising on the 4-night Wonder in May, and that makes a stop in Nassau. There, you have the entire day to book extra excursions, or explore the area on your own. Some of the choices are the "Discover Atlantis" tour, which takes you through the resort and aquarium or you can also have an "Atlantis Beach Day" which allows you to have access to their beach and free lunch. On your own, you can hit the casino area. I guess you have to book a room there or the neighboring "Comfort Suites" to have their pool and water slide access. There is a lot of info about these excursions on Castawayclub.com and dcltribute.com.

Atlantis is absolutely beautiful and my kids loved spending the entire day there when we were on the DCL. It is an excursion package (about $50 per person for the beach day) and includes your water taxis to Atlantis, beach rights, and lunch) You can't use the water slides though. We are crusing with DCL again in late March and have tried to book through Comfort Suites (a room is about $190) but you get rights to all of Atlantis. They are totally booked for the day we'll be there so I'll probably just do the excursion through DCL again. Going there alone is wonderful but very expensive. Go to atlantis.com and you'll be able to get the scoop on just the resort itself. Good luck. Remember with DCL you are only there for a day (not even an entire day.)
