Pantyhose, tights or bare legs?

My boyfriend agrees with him. As a matter of fact, he said any man that says he doesn't, isn't being honest.

All I can say is thats pretty rude. This morning, my husband is sitting next to me again. He still hates pantyhose, and now he's just irritated that someone he doesn't know, called him a liar.

Neither do I. Tights, as I know them, are usually made from a heavy knit or cotton, looking sometimes like extended knee socks. :confused3

I loathe "pantyhose" with a passion. I've never been able to pull them up without putting a finger through them.

Solution...thigh highs! Or old-fashioned "stockings" with a garter belt. I don't have to worry about pulling them up and down all day, I know my skirt won't get caught up in them when I pull them back up...

(and my DBF thinks they're sexy, too)

These are what I had in mind when defining tights as being made from a heavy knit.

IMO, comparing hose/panyhose with tights is the same as comparing apples and oranges.

The model in this photo looks adorable in tights, very "put together", that stated, I could not see her wearing this outfit with sheer hose.

I also could not picture her wearing a dress or a skirt with those tights. IMO, the look would seem too "childish"!

I'm in the sheer(they can have color) pantyhose/hose camp(when wearing dresses/skirts in cold(er) weather) because I have fabulous legs! ;)

Well, actually, the pantyhose camp knows that pantyhose look professional. Of course, this is coming from someone with legs so bad (scarred) that I haven't worn anything but slacks (eta: well, and tops ;)), for the last five years. :rotfl2:

Me too! Probably the last time I wore a dress was my brother's wedding 6 years ago. If I did have to wear one, my fat pale white legs would be in pantyhose. I can't imagine myself walking into the office with bare legs, especially in the winter. I've tried self tanners but it never seems to work for me and makes my legs itchy. Not too many women in the office wear dresses or skirts, especially in the winter. I'll have to pay more attention to the ones who do, I'm usually not looking at their legs. ;) I'm not saying there's anything wrong with bare legs, if you have nice legs.

And I look at those and see dark panty hose. I guess I'm wearing tights (that come in a plastic egg) and don't even know it! :rotfl:
I can't imagnie wearing heavy knit tights, and still fitting into my dress shoes.

I work in an office full of childish women then :goodvibes We all wear them with dresses and heels all the time.

I have a pair just like these:

that I love to wear with black dresses and black skirts in the winter with my black heels like these:

I actually have those tights in a few different colors. They are my favorite thing to wear to work in the winter and I get compliments on them all the time.:confused3

I think I'm just old or maybe old fashioned or maybe it's because of the previous offices I've worked but I don't wear tights. I just feel like I should be putting on my black patent mary janes and poofy dress for Easter and egg hunting.

I've worked in several offices and covered legs was required which essentailly meant pantyhose or hosiery. I guess tights is now considered hosiery just not to me.

I wear alot of formal gowns and mostly open toe/strappy sandals. I do not wear footy hose for these events. They now make hosiery without feet for this purpose.

I have another interview this week. A second interview with the DOD and LOTS of women in these offices. ALL had covered legs.

THESE were the office HIT though! I wore mine one day and by the end of the week, the receptionist and the accounting manager had gone and bought the same pair in a different color.

I think either is "right" or "wrong" I just think one is comfortable, looks good, is in style, and the other looks tacky and old.

I have never in 6 different professional offices and have not ever once worked in one that required hose. :thumbsup2
Still confused. When did pantyhose become "tacky" and "old"? And who decides? If you don't want to wear them, fine - but if they were tacky, old, out of style - stores wouldn't be selling them. Retail space is expensive, and not going to be wasted on merchandise that doesn't sell.

These look JUST like a pair that my boss wears frequently. I keep meaning to ask her where she got them because I think they are soooo cute. She's 49 years old.

The fashion world decides. Just like it decides on everything else. It doesn't mean everyone automatically stops wearing them. There's really nothing confusing about it. Its the same as the fashion world deciding that sweats are frumpy, tacky, and ugly. That doesn't mean that stores will stop selling them, or that people will stop wearing them to buy groceries in. Just because people continue to buy something doesn't mean its in fashion.

It is the same as the fashion world dictating that bell bottoms were in, then out, then back in again. Exact same concept. Like it or not, follow the trends or not, that is the way it works.

Mind if we ask how old you all are?

I am 31. The receptionist is 44. The accounting manager is 33. My boss the manager of the entire office is 49.

And our office is the ritzy part of town if that makes any difference. I don't live there, just work there so I work hard to look appropriate.

So, you're saying, none of us is able to think for herself and choose what to wear? That if we do not wear what "the fashion world" (note that its entire purpose is to keep us spending money, season after season, year after year, no matter how good condition 'last year's' clothes are), we are tacky? We don't know how to dress? We - many of whom have been dressing ourselves for years with no problem - aren't slaves to fashion, so our senses of style are "tacky" and "old"?

As I said earlier, I wear slacks (and don't give a rat's patoot who thinks what of the way I dress), so the pantyhose vs. psychadelic(!) tights on a mature adult doesn't even affect me. I just thing it's judgmental and rude - not to mention, oh, never mind - to, just because some fashion "experts" claim 'this is out, that's in', post that a large segment of the population dresses "tacky" and "old".

I never said that at all. You did.

I have followed fashion all my life. I enjoy it. I find it fun and intriguing. There are a LOT of things I see people wearing on a daily basis that I think are tacky. Tapered leg jeans, sweats, pantyhose, etc. But, I don't presume to know anything about the person other than the fact that I can tell that they don't follow fashion trends. And I have no problem with that. To each their own. I don't judge a person based on what they wear. While I may think their fashion choices are tacky, that doesn't mean I look down on them, or won't associate with them. People's clothing choices have nothing to do with who we are as humans on the inside. My mom wears pantyhose. I think they are tacky and I think they age her. But, I don't have any ill will towards her. I don't think she's a baffoon. I just know she doesn't follow fashion trends. She wears what she likes, and I wear what I like. She probably thinks my tights are crazy. I think her pantyhose are antiquated and tacky looking. To each their own.

.

Disgusting! Sweats are a total fashion CRIME. They are not flattering, ugly etc. I will never own a pair. And I would never be caught shopping in them.

As for the hose/tights debate - it depends. If I am in a business suit - always hose in taupe or black. If I am in a cute plaid skirt with great boots then it is tights. Strappy cocktail dress is hose - tights are too dark and look stupid.
